13. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Hudhayfah ibn Mansur who has said the following: “I once was with abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he asked for a piece of cloth. He (the Imam) took five yards from it, cut it, then measured it with his shibr and in width it was six shibr. He (the Imam) then asked to stitch its borders and trim its edges.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ibn Mahbub from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who wears new clothes. He (the Imam) said, ’He must say, ‘O Lord, make it the dress of good fortune and blessings. O Lord, grant me the opportunity to worship You properly and appreciate Your bounties. All praise belongs to Allah who has clothed me with something whereby I cover my private parts and dress up myself before the people.”’
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, taught me when wearing new clothes to say, ‘All praise belongs to Allah who has dressed me with clothes to beautify myself before the people. O Lord, make it the dress of blessings with which I will try to seek Your pleasure and build Your Masajid.’” He (the Messenger of Allah) then said to me, “O Ali whoever says it, before wearing a shirt Allah forgives him.” Another version of this Hadith says, “He will not experience anything which he dislikes.’””
3. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from Ali al-Hamadaniy from al-Husayn ibn ‘Uthman from Khalid al-Jawwan who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, Tt is very proper for you when wearing a piece of new clothes to wipe it with your hand and say, “All praise belongs to Allah who has dressed me with something whereby I cover my privacy, beautify and decorate myself before the people.’”
4. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad from more than one person who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one reads Chapter 97 of the Quran thirty-two times on a bowl of water and sprinkles it on a new dress just before wearing it, he will continue to eat affluently as long as a fiber thereof is left with him.’”
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘When Allah, most High, dresses a believing man with a new clothe he must take wudu. He then should perform two Rak’at Salat (prayer) in which he should recite the first chapter of al-Quran, verse 255 of chapter two, Chapter 112 and Chapter 97 of al-Quran. He then should praise Allah who has covered his private parts and decorated him before people. He should say a great deal, “There is no means and power without Allah.” He will not disobey Allah in such dress as long as a fiber thereof remains with him and an angel asks for him forgiveness and mercy.’”
6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Naysaburiy from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Rayyan from Yunus from ‘Umar ibn Yazid who has said the following: “I once wanted to visit abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. I dressed up and spread my Taylisan (pallium) which was new and I liked it very much. Somewhere on the road the camel gave me a hard time and it (my dress) was torn in pieces all over. I became depress very much. I then met abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, he looked at my Taylisan and asked, ‘Why do I see your cloth ripped apart?’ I then informed him (the Imam) about what had happened. He (the Imam) said, ‘O ‘Umar, whenever you will wear a new pair of clothes say, “No one deserves worship except Allah. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.’ You will remain safe from misfortunes and if you like something do not mention it very often because mentioning it causes you great damage. If you need something from a person do not revile him behind his back because Allah drops it in his heart.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ali from Ali ibn ‘Uqbah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has made this pronouncement: ‘The least of squandering is throwing away the remaining water in a bowl, misuse of protective clothes and throwing away of nutlets.”’
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah from Sulayman ibn Salih who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the least degree of squandering. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is misuse of protective clothes, throwing away the remaining water in your bowl and when eating dates throwing the date-stone here and there.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Yaqtin from Fadl ibn Kathir al-Mada’iniy from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Once certain person of his people came to him (the Imam) and he saw on him (the Imam) a shirt with a patch stitched on it and he kept looking at it. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘What is the matter; what are you looking at?’ He replied, ‘I look at the patch stitched on your shirt.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Pick up this book and read what is in it.’ There was a book before him (the Imam) or near him (the Imam). The man looked in it and there it said, ‘There is no faith and belief in one who does not have any bashfulness, no wealth for one who has no planning and nothing new for one who does have any old item.’”
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘One who wears a turban without tahannak (allowing one end to hang down on one’s front side and the other end down one’s back side), if he faces an illness without cure he then must not blame anyone for it except his own-self.’”
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from abu Hammam who has said the following: “This is about the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘marked angels.’ (3:125) Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that it is a reference to turbans. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wore a turban and hanged down one end on his front side and the other end down his backside. Jibril wore a turban and hanged down one end on his front side and the other end down his back.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu Jamilah from Jabir who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the angels had turbans hanging on them on the day of Badr.”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْعُقَيْلِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ اللَّهَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ عَمَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلام ) بِيَدِهِ فَسَدَلَهَا مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَ قَصَّرَهَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ قَدْرَ أَرْبَعِ أَصَابِعَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَدْبِرْ فَأَدْبَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَقْبِلْ فَأَقْبَلَ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا تِيجَانُ الْمَلَائِكَةِ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from al-Husayn ibn Ali al-‘Aqiliy from Ali ibn abu Ali al- Lahbiy who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, made Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, to wear turban and hanged one end down his front side but made it shorter for the end hanging down his back by four fingers. He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked him to go back which he did and then asked him to come forward which he also did and then he (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘This is how the Tijan (crown) of the angels is.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْعَمَائِمُ تِيجَانُ الْعَرَبِ .وَ رُوِيَ أَنَّ الطَّابِقِيَّةَ عِمَّةُ إِبْلِيسَ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ .
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Turbans are the crown of Arabs.’”
6. It is narrated that: al-Tabiqiyah, a turban without tahannak (allowing one end to hang down on one’s front side and the other end down one’s backside), is the turban of Satan, may he be condemned.’”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Musa ibn Ja‘far al-Baghdadiy from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from “Isa ibn Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one wears a turban but does not turn the turban under his chin and then suffers an incurable illness , he then must not blame anyone other than his own self.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَلْبَسُ الْقَلَانِسَ الْيَمَنِيَّةَ وَ الْبَيْضَاءَ وَ الْمُضَرَّبَةَ وَ ذَاتَ الْأُذُنَيْنِ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَ كَانَتْ عِمَامَتُهُ السَّحَابَ وَ كَانَ لَهُ بُرْنُسٌ يَتَبَرْنَسُ بِهِ .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would wear a white Yemeniy cape and a quilted one with two ears for the war time. His turban was al-Sahab and a hooded cloak which he would wear.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَلْبَسُ قَلَنْسُوَةً بَيْضَاءَ مُضَرَّبَةً وَ كَانَ يَلْبَسُ فِي الْحَرْبِ قَلَنْسُوَةً لَهَا أُذُنَانِ .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wore a white cape which was quilted. And for the war time he would wear one which had two ears.’”
3. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from Sama‘ah from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from al- Husayn ibn al-Mukhtar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, once said, ‘Make for me white capes and do not (make them of large size that require folding) break them; a master like me does not wear the broken one.’”
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Yahya ibn Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad from his father from al-Husayn ibn al-Mukhtar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, once said to me, ‘Find for me capes but do not color them; a master like me does not wear them, that is, you must not (make them of a large size to require you to) break (fold) them.’”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Shu’ayb from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Good shoes (footgear) are protection for the body and helps for Salat (prayer) and al-Tahur (cleansing).”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَوَّلُ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ النَّعْلَيْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ( عليه السلام ) .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The first one who used footgear was Ibrahim ‘Alayhi al- Salam.”’
وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنِ اتَّخَذَ نَعْلًا فَلْيَسْتَجِدْهَا .
3. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who uses a sandal must find a good one.’”
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather, al-Hassan ibn Rashid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Do not use an al-Mals footgear (one without heels and strip between the toes); it is the kind of the footgear of the pharaoh who was the first to use such footgear.’”
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn Mahbub, from al-‘ Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘I dislike a man whose footgear is without pursuer (the back part to support the back of the heels).”’
6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Tsma‘il from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Uthman from a man from Minhal who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I was wearing a sandal which was smooth. He (the Imam) said, ‘This is of the kind of sandals that Jews wear.’ Minhal then returned, took a knife and carved to narrow down its middle.’”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from abu al-Khazraj al-Hassan ibn al-Zabarqan al-Ansariy who has said that narrated to me Ishaq al-Hadhdha’ who has said the following: “Once abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, sent for me, when we were in Mina, to come to him with my tools. I went to his tent and offered him (the Imam) the greeting of peace to which he responded and made a hand gesture for me to sit down. I sat down. He (the Imam) took a new shoe and threw it to me. When I wanted to leave I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I wish you gave this sandal to me as a present so I can use it as a model. He (the Imam) threw the other pair to me saying, ‘How can you benefit from one pair?’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘It had a back support, a narrow middle part and two straps in their front part (to go between the toes). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the model of the footgear of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause.’”
8. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith who has said that narrated to him Dawud ibn Ishaq abu Sulayman al-Hadhdha’ from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd from Taym al-Ribab who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘I dislike a man when I see him wearing a sandal which does not have a narrow middle part. The first one who changed the model of the Messenger of Allah was so and so.’ He (the Imam) then asked, ‘What do you call this model?’ I said, ‘It is smooth.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This smooth model (that I dislike).”’
9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from certain persons of our people from ibn Suwayd who has said the following: “Once abu al-Hassan, looked at me when I was wearing sandals which were smooth. He (the Imam) took it in his hand and turned it, then said to me, ‘Do you want to be like Jews?’ I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, it is only what a human being has given to me as a gift.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It then is not unlawful.’”
10. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from more than one person who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked tying of shoelaces. He (the Imam) took the sandals of one of them and opened its laces.”
11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘My father would keep Dhawa’ib (the clump) of his shoes longer.’”
12. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from abu ’Isma‘il al-Sarraj from ‘Imran from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once looked at a shoe which had laces that were tied down. He (the Imam) picked it up, opened its laces and said, ‘This must not be tied down.’”
13. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad, from Ali ibn Hassan, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir who has said the following: “I once was walking with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when the thong and strap of his shoe broke. I took out one from my bag with which he repaired his shoe. He (the Imam) touched my left shoulder saying, ‘O ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir, if one helps a believing person in the matters of his shoe thong Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, will carry him on a fast running camel when he comes out of his grave until he will knock at the door of the garden (paradises).”’
14. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Ya‘qub al-Sarraj who has said the following: “Once we were walking with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, to (the house of) one of his relatives for offering condolences because of the death of their child. The strap and thong of the shoe of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, broke, so he took his shoes in his hand and began to walk barefoot. Ibn abu Ya‘fur looked at him and took his shoes off, removed its strap and thong to give it to abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who refused to accept it as if disappointed. He (the Imam) then said, ‘The mourner has a greater responsibility to exercise patience.’ He (the Imam) continued walking barefoot until he arrived at the house of the man whom he wanted to offer condolences.’”
15. Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Kufiy has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hassan al-Taymiy from al-‘Abbas ibn ‘Amir from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when he visited a man. On his arrival he took off his shoes and then said, ‘You must take off your shoes; when shoes are removed the feet receive more comfort and rest.’”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Once abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, looked at one of his people who wore a black shoe. He (the Imam) said, ‘What have you to do with a black shoe, did you not know that it is harmful to the eyes, it slackens the penis, besides it is more expensive than others and whoever wears it, he shows arrogance in it?”’
2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy from Hanan ibn Sadir who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I wore a black shoe. He (the Imam) said, ‘O Hanan, what do you have to do with black (color)? Did you not know that it has three disadvantages ? It weakens the eye sight, slackens the penis and causes anxieties [and besides it is of footgear of tyrants]?’ I then asked, ‘What kind of shoe must I wear?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must wear yellow because it has three qualities. It brightens eyesight, hardens the penis, dispels anxieties and besides it is of the footgear of the Prophets.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Sayyariy from abu Sulayman al-Khawwas from al-Fadl ibn Dukin from Sadir al-Sayrafiy who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I was wearing a white shoe. He (the Imam) asked, ‘O Sadir, are you wearing this shoe intentionally?’ I replied, ‘No, by Allah, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Whoever goes to the market place to buy a white shoe, it will not become old before he earns an asset from a source that he never expected to earn.’ Abu al-Nu’aym has narrated to me that Sadir said, ‘That shoe did not become old until I earned one hundred dinar from an unexpected source.’”
4. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from ibn Faddal from Burayd ibn Muhammad al-Ghadiriy from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saw me with a black shoe and said, ‘O ‘Ubayd, what have you to do with a black shoe? Did you not know that it has three negative qualities? It slackens the penis, weakens the eyesight and it is more expensive than other shoes. If a man, who does not have anything except his wife and children, wears it and Allah raises him an oppressor.’”
5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from abu al-Bakhtariy who has said the following: “If one wears yellow shoes he continues with happiness until that shoe becomes old.’”
6. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of our people who received from Jabir al-Juhfiy who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one wears yellow shoes he continues in happiness as long as he wears that shoes; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, “It is yellow which is delightful to the on-lookers.” (2:69)*’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Sulayman ibn Sama‘ah from Dawud al-Hadhdha’ from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn Bahr Sahib al-Lu’Lu who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one wants to wear shoes and he finds yellow toward whiteness shoes, he will not live without property or children; but if one finds black shoes he will not live without sadness and anxieties.’”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Salmah ibn abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one wears al-Khuff (half-boot) his eyesight sharpens.’”
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from al-‘Awsiy from abu Ja’far, al-Musliy from Sulayman ibn Sa‘d from Muni’ who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Wearing al-Khuff (half-boot) provides immunity from tuberculoses.’”
3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of our people from Mubarak Ghulam al-‘Aqarqufiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Continuously wearing al-Khuff (half-boot) provides immunity against tuberculoses.’”
4. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Salim ibn Mukram from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Dawud al-Riqqiy who has said the following: “I once traveled with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, to Yanbu‘. When he (the Imam) came out, I saw him wearing a red al-Khuff (half-boot). I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, what kind of shoe is this red shoe which I see you wearing?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is al- Khuff (half-boot) which I have found for traveling and it is good in clay (mud) and rain and more durable.’ I then asked, ‘Can I have such footgear?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘During a journey yes, you can have it, but not when you are at home; and do not exchange a black one for anything else.’” (Apparently it applies to al-Khuff (half-boot) only).
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Ziyad ibn al-Mundhir who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I was wearing al-Khuff (half-boot) which was Maqshurah. He (the Imam) said, ‘O, Ziyad, what is this which I see you wearing?’ I replied, ‘It is al- Khuff (half-boot) that I have found.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Did you know that the white one of al-Khuff (half-boot) that is, al-Maqshurah is of the footgear of the tyrants and they were the ones who made it? The red ones are of the footgear of Kisra’s (Persian kings) and they were the first ones who made it. The black ones are of the footgear of banu Hashim and of the noble tradition.’”
6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah from Ali al-Baghdadiy from abu al- Hassan al-Darir from abu Salmah al-Sarraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Continuously wearing al-Khuff (half-boot) is protection against dying badly.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from abu Ayyub from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is of the noble tradition to take off al-Khuff (half-boot) first from the left foot before the right foot and wear it on the right foot before the left foot.”’
