عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَيْضِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي الْخَلُوقُ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from a man from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘I like al-Khuluq.”’
حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَدْ أَثْبَتَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّقَ الرَّجُلُ لِامْرَأَتِهِ وَ لَكِنْ لَا يَبِيتُ مُتَخَلِّقاً .
5. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from Ja‘far ibn Sama‘ah from Aban from a man whose name is he has confirmed who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not harmful for one to use al-Khuluq for his wife, but he must not sleep overnight with it.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ السِّنْدِيِّ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِأَنْ يَتَخَلَّقَ الرَّجُلُ وَ لَكِنْ لَا يَبِيتُ مُتَخَلِّقاً .
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Salih ibn al-Sindiy from Ja‘far ibn Bashir from Aban from al-Fudayl from a man who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not harmful to use al-Khuluq, but one must not sleep overnight with it.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَبْقَى رِيحُ الْعُودِ الَّتِي فِي الْبَدَنِ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً وَ يَبْقَى رِيحُ عُودِ الْمُطَرَّاةِ عِشْرِينَ يَوْماً .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy from certain persons of his people in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The fragrance of aloe that is in the body remains for forty days but the fragrance of the prepared aloe remains for twenty days.’”
الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يَنْبَغِي لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يُدَخِّنَ ثِيَابَهُ إِذَا كَانَ يَقْدِرُ .
2. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is very proper for one to apply incense to his clothes if one can afford.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ جَهْمٍ قَالَ خَرَجَ إِلَيَّ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) فَوَجَدْتُ مِنْهُ رَائِحَةَ التَّجْمِيرِ .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Musa ibn al-Qasim from Ali ibn Asbat from al-Hassan ibn Jahm who has said the following: “Once abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, came out and I felt the fragrance of incense from him (the Imam).”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) الْحَمَّامَ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى الْمَسْلَخِ دَعَا بِمِجْمَرَةٍ فَتَجَمَّرَ بِهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ جَمِّرُوا مُرَازِمُ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ نَصِيبَهُ يَأْخُذُ قَالَ نَعَمْ .
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Murazim who has said the following: “I once entered a bathhouse with abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. When he (the Imam) came out to the room for undressing, he asked for the incense stand, and applied incense in it then said, ‘Allow them to the incense O Murazim.’ I then asked, ‘Can anyone who wants take a share?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, they can do so.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الرَّيَّانِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ مَوْلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ كَانَ اشْتَرَاهُ وَ أَبَاهُ وَ أُمَّهُ وَ أَخَاهُ فَأَعْتَقَهُمْ وَ اسْتَكْتَبَ أَحْمَدَ وَ جَعَلَهُ قَهْرَمَانَهُ فَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ كَانَ نِسَاءُ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا تَبَخَّرْنَ أَخَذْنَ نَوَاةً مِنْ نَوَى الصَّيْحَانِيِّ مَمْسُوحَةً مِنَ التَّمْرِ مُنْقَاةَ التَّمْرِ وَ الْقُشَارَةِ فَأَلْقَيْنَهَا عَلَى النَّارِ قَبْلَ الْبَخُورِ فَإِذَا دَخَنَتِ النَّوَاةُ أَدْنَى الدُّخَانِ رَمَيْنَ النَّوَاةَ وَ تَبَخَّرْنَ مِنْ بَعْدُ وَ كُنَّ يَقُلْنَ هُوَ أَعْبَقُ وَ أَطْيَبُ لِلْبَخُورِ وَ كُنَّ يَأْمُرْنَ بِذَلِكَ .
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Ali ibn al-Rayyan from Ahmad ibn abu Khalaf Mawla’ of abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, whom he (the Imam) had bought along with his parents and brother then set them free but Ahmad made a contract with him (the Imam) and became his agent. He has said the following: “Women of abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when burning incense first took the date-stone of Sayhaniy (a certain kind of date of al-Madinah) date, clean of date fruit or sweetness and peel, then placed it on the fire before the incense. When the date-stones smoked the minimum they threw away the date-stones and burnt the incense. They said, ‘It clings with better fragrance and nicer incense’ and they instructed with this method.”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) الدُّهْنُ يُلَيِّنُ الْبَشَرَةَ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الدِّمَاغِ وَ يُسَهِّلُ مَجَارِيَ الْمَاءِ وَ يُذْهِبُ الْقَشَفَ وَ يُسْفِرُ اللَّوْنَ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Applying oil softens the skin, increases the ability of brain, opens the channels of water, removes the scaling and makes color to glow.”’
عَنْهُ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الدُّهْنُ يَذْهَبُ بِالسُّوءِ .
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jundab from Sufyan ibn al-Simt who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Applying oil removes wickedness (despair).”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الدُّهْنُ يُظْهِرُ الْغِنَى .
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Applying oil demonstrates wealth.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) الدُّهْنُ يُلَيِّنُ الْبَشَرَةَ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الدِّمَاغِ الْقُوَّةَ وَ يُسَهِّلُ مَجَارِيَ الْمَاءِ وَ هُوَ يَذْهَبُ بِالْقَشَفِ وَ يُحَسِّنُ اللَّوْنَ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Shu’ayb from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Applying oil softens the skin, increases the abilities of the brain, opens the channels of water, removes the scaling and improves color (of the skin).”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ دُهْنُ اللَّيْلِ يَجْرِي فِي الْعُرُوقِ وَ يُرَوِّي الْبَشَرَةَ وَ يُبَيِّضُ الْوَجْهَ .
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Applied oil at night flows in the veins, quenches the skin and brightens the face.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ بَحْرٍ عَنْ مِهْزَمٍ الْأَسَدِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا أَخَذْتَ الدُّهْنَ عَلَى رَاحَتِكَ فَقُلِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الزَّيْنَ وَ الزِّينَةَ وَ الْمَحَبَّةَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الشَّيْنِ وَ الشَّنَآنِ وَ الْمَقْتِ ثُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ عَلَى يَأْفُوخِكَ ابْدَأْ بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ .
6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from al-Hassan ibn Bahr from Mehzam al-Asadiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When you take oil in your palm, say, ‘O Lord, I ask You to grant me grace, beauty and love. I ask from You protection against abhorrence, disgrace and anger.’ Then place it on your forehead and say whatever you can.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ الدَّقَّاقِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ الدَّهَّانِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنْ دَهَنَ مُؤْمِناً كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ شَعْرَةٍ نُوراً يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ .
7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Daqqaq from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah from Bashir al-Dahhan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one applies oil on a believing person, Allah writes for every hair a light on the Day of Judgment.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَدِيجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا يَدَّهِنُ الرَّجُلُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ يُرَى الرَّجُلُ شَعِثاً لَا يُرَى مُتَزَلِّقاً كَأَنَّهُ امْرَأَةٌ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-Husayn ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Hashim from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A man must not apply oil every day; a man should look shaggier and not polished and greasy like a woman.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أُخَالِطُ أَهْلَ الْمُرُوءَةِ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَ قَدْ أَكْتَفِي مِنَ الدُّهْنِ بِالْيَسِيرِ فَأَتَمَسَّحُ بِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ مَا أُحِبُّ لَكَ ذَلِكَ فَقُلْتُ يَوْمٌ وَ يَوْمٌ لَا فَقَالَ وَ مَا أُحِبُّ لَكَ ذَلِكَ قُلْتُ يَوْمٌ وَ يَوْمَيْنِ لَا فَقَالَ الْجُمُعَةُ إِلَى الْجُمُعَةِ يَوْمٌ وَ يَوْمَيْنِ .
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I associate with careful people and content myself with a small amount of oil which I use little by little every day.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not like it for you.’ I then asked, ‘Should I then use one day and should not use the next day?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not like that for you.’ I then asked, ‘Can I use once after every two days?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can apply oil every Friday, once or twice a week.”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فِي كَمْ أَدَّهِنُ قَالَ فِي كُلِّ سَنَةٍ مَرَّةً فَقُلْتُ إِذَنْ يَرَى النَّاسُ بِي خَصَاصَةً فَلَمْ أَزَلْ أُمَاكِسُهُ فَقَالَ فَفِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ مَرَّةً لَمْ يَزِدْنِي عَلَيْهَا .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Ishaq ibn Jarir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how many times should I apply oil?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Apply oil only once a year.’ I then said, ‘People will consider me as living in destitution.’ I continued asking if I can apply oil once a month or so but he (the Imam) did not increase.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ الْبَنَفْسَجُ سَيِّدُ أَدْهَانِكُمْ .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Viola oil is the master of your oils.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي زَيْدٍ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ أَهْدَيْتُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) بَغْلَةً فَصَرَعَتِ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتُ بِهَا مَعَهُ فَأَمَّتْهُ فَدَخَلْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ فَأَخْبَرْنَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ أَ فَلَا أَسْعَطْتُمُوهُ بَنَفْسَجاً فَأُسْعِطَ بِالْبَنَفْسَجِ فَبَرَأَ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا عُقْبَةُ إِنَّ الْبَنَفْسَجَ بَارِدٌ فِي الصَّيْفِ حَارٌّ فِي الشِّتَاءِ لَيِّنٌ عَلَى شِيعَتِنَا يَابِسٌ عَلَى عَدُوِّنَا لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْبَنَفْسَجِ قَامَتْ أُوقِيَّتُهُ بِدِينَارٍ .
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad ibn abu Zayd al-Raziy from his father from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah from his father who has said the following: “I once sent a mule as a gift to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, but (on the way) it made the driver to fall off. I then decided to visit him (the Imam) and when we were in al-Madinah, we informed abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about it. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must make him (the driver) to sniff viola. He sniffed viola and recovered. He (the Imam) said, ‘O ‘Uqbah, viola is of cool condition in summer and warm in winter. It is soft to our followers and dry to our enemies. If people had known what is in viola, every Awqiyah (a certain measurement) would cost one dinar.’”
أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَا يَأْتِينَا مِنْ نَاحِيَتِكُمْ شَيْءٌ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْنَا مِنَ الْبَنَفْسَجِ .
3. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Yunus ibn Ya‘qub who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said, ‘From your area no other thing comes more likable to us than viola.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَنْ أَسْبَاطِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ إِسْرَائِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ بَيَّاعِ الزُّطِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَثَلُ الْبَنَفْسَجِ فِي الْأَدْهَانِ مَثَلُنَا فِي النَّاسِ .
4. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from ibn Faddal from Tha’labah from Asbat ibn Salim from Israel ibn abu ‘Usamah Bayya’ al-Zuttiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The likeness of voila oil among oils is like us among other people.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ فَضْلُ الْبَنَفْسَجِ عَلَى الْأَدْهَانِ كَفَضْلِ الْإِسْلَامِ عَلَى الْأَدْيَانِ نِعْمَ الدُّهْنُ الْبَنَفْسَجُ لَيَذْهَبُ بِالدَّاءِ مِنَ الرَّأْسِ وَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ فَادَّهِنُوا بِهِ .
5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu from Ali ibn Hassan from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The excellence of viola oil over other oils is like the excellence of Islam over other religions. Viola is very good; it banishes the pain from the head and eyes, so you must apply it.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ مِهْزَمٌ فَقَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) ادْعُ لَنَا الْجَارِيَةَ تَجِئْنَا بِدُهْنٍ وَ كُحْلٍ فَدَعَوْتُ بِهَا فَجَاءَتْ بِقَارُورَةِ بَنَفْسَجٍ وَ كَانَ يَوْماً شَدِيدَ الْبَرْدِ فَصَبَّ مِهْزَمٌ فِي رَاحَتِهِ مِنْهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ هَذَا بَنَفْسَجٌ وَ هَذَا الْبَرْدُ الشَّدِيدُ فَقَالَ وَ مَا بَالُهُ يَا مِهْزَمُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ مُتَطَبِّبِينَا بِالْكُوفَةِ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ الْبَنَفْسَجَ بَارِدٌ فَقَالَ هُوَ بَارِدٌ فِي الصَّيْفِ لَيِّنٌ حَارٌّ فِي الشِّتَاءِ .
6. Ali ibn Hassan has narrated from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Kathir who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when Mehzam came to visit him (the Imam) and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to me, ‘Call the slave-girl to bring for us oil.’ I called her, she brought a bottle of viola, and it was a cold day. Mehzam poured a certain amount on his palm, then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, this is viola and the day is very cold.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘What about it, O Mehzam?’ He replied, ‘Our physicians in al-Kufah think that viola is of cold nature.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is cool in summer and it is soft and warm in winter.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) اسْتَعِطُوا بِالْبَنَفْسَجِ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قَالَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْبَنَفْسَجِ لَحَسَوْهُ حَسْواً .
7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘You must try to sniff viola; the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Had people known about what is in viola they would drink and slurp it.’””
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سُوقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ دُهْنُ الْبَنَفْسَجِ يَرْزُنُ الدِّمَاغَ .
8. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman from Muhammad ibn Sawqah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Viola oil calms down the condition of the brain/”
سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ دَهْنُ الْحَاجِبَيْنِ بِالْبَنَفْسَجِ يَذْهَبُ بِالصُّدَاعِ .
9. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Ali ibn Asbat in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Applying viola oil to one’s eyebrows dispels headaches.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ نَجِيحٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَثَلُ الْبَنَفْسَجِ فِي الدُّهْنِ كَمَثَلِ شِيعَتِنَا فِي النَّاسِ .
10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Khalid ibn Najih who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The likeness of viola oil among the oils is like our followers among the people.’”
أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) اكْسِرُوا حَرَّ الْحُمَّى بِالْبَنَفْسَجِ .
11. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Curb the heat of fever with viola oil.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى وَ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ ذَكَرَ دُهْنَ الْبَنَفْسَجِ فَزَكَّاهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ وَ إِنَّ الْخِيرِيَّ لَطِيفٌ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa and Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar all ibn Faddal from Tha’labah ibn Maymun from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, mentioned viola oil and praised it; then he (the Imam) said that the oil of gillyflower is also very fine oil.”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَدَّهِنُ بِالْخِيرِيِّ فَقَالَ لِيَ ادَّهِنْ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ أَيْنَ أَنْتَ عَنِ الْبَنَفْسَجِ وَ قَدْ رُوِيَ فِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَكْرَهُ رِيحَهُ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ فَإِنِّي كُنْتُ أَكْرَهُ رِيحَهُ وَ أَكْرَهُ أَنْ أَقُولَ ذَلِكَ لِمَا بَلَغَنِي فِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ .
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father and ibn Faddal from al-Hassan ibn al-Jahm who has said the following: “I once saw abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, apply gillyflower oil and said to me to apply it.’ I then said, ‘Why do you not apply viola oil when there is narration about it from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al- Salam :?’ He, abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘I do not like its smell.’ He (the narrator) has said that I said, ‘I also do not like its smell, but I do not like to say it because of the narration from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about it.’ He, abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَيْضِ قَالَ ذُكِرَتْ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الْأَدْهَانُ فَذُكِرَ الْبَنَفْسَجُ وَ فَضْلُهُ فَقَالَ نِعْمَ الدُّهْنُ الْبَنَفْسَجُ ادَّهِنُوا بِهِ فَإِنَّ فَضْلَهُ عَلَى الْأَدْهَانِ كَفَضْلِنَا عَلَى النَّاسِ وَ الْبَانُ دُهْنُ ذَكَرٍ نِعْمَ الدُّهْنُ الْبَانُ وَ إِنَّهُ لَيُعْجِبُنِي الْخَلُوقُ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd who has said the following: “I once mentioned oils and viola oil and its excellence before abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) said, ‘Viola oil is very good oil. You must apply it; its excellence over other oils is like our excellence over other people. Oil of frankincense is fine oil, I however like al-Khuluq oil.”’
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ وَ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أُذَيْنَةَ قَالَ شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) شُقَاقاً فِي يَدَيْهِ وَ رِجْلَيْهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ خُذْ قُطْنَةً فَاجْعَلْ فِيهَا بَاناً وَ ضَعْهَا فِي سُرَّتِكَ فَقَالَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ يَجْعَلُ الْبَانَ فِي قُطْنَةٍ وَ يَجْعَلُهَا فِي سُرَّتِهِ فَقَالَ أَمَّا أَنْتَ يَا إِسْحَاقُ فَصُبَّ الْبَانَ فِي سُرَّتِكَ فَإِنَّهَا كَبِيرَةٌ قَالَ ابْنُ أُذَيْنَةَ لَقِيتُ الرَّجُلَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ فَعَلَهُ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَذَهَبَ عَنْهُ .
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar and ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Umar ibn ‘Udhaynah who has said the following: “Once, a man complained before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about cracks in his hands and feet. He (the Imam) said, ‘Take a piece of cotton, place frankincense oil in it and apply it in your belly button.’ Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar has said that I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, frankincense oil in cotton, then in his belly button?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Ishaq, to pour frankincense oil in your belly button it is a great task.’ Ibn ‘Udhaynah has said, ‘Thereafter I met the man. He informed me that he followed the instruction only once and his problems went away.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ أَبِي سُلَيْمَانَ الْحَذَّاءِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفَيْضِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) نِعْمَ الدُّهْنُ الْبَانُ .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Dawud ibn Ishaq abu Sulayman al-Hadhdha’ from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Frankincense oil is a fine oil.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنِ السَّيَّارِيِّ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ خَيْراً لِلْجَسَدِ مِنْ دُهْنِ الزَّنْبَقِ يَعْنِي الرَّازِقِيَّ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far from al-Sayyariy in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, that no other thing is better for the body than the oil of gladiola (lily), that is al-Raziqiy (a certain plant).’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مَعْرُوفٍ عَنِ الْيَعْقُوبِيِّ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى ( عليه السلام ) يَسْتَعِطُ بِالشَّلِيثَا وَ بِالزَّنْبَقِ الشَّدِيدِ الْحَرِّ خَسْفَيْهِ قَالَ وَ كَانَ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) أَيْضاً يَسْتَعِطُ بِهِ فَقُلْتُ لِعَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ لِمَ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِبَعْضِ الْمُتَطَبِّبِينَ فَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ جَيِّدٌ لِلْجِمَاعِ .
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-‘ Abbas ibn Ma‘ruf from al-Ya‘qubiy from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah from Ali ibn Ja‘far who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would smell al-Shalisha (a certain mixture) and gladiola as medicine to cure the heat of his runny nose. I asked ‘Ali ibn Ja‘far about it. Ali said that I mentioned it to a certain physician who said that it is very good for going to bed with one’s wife.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنِ الْخَشَّابِ عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ كَلُّوبٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ إِذَا اشْتَكَى رَأْسَهُ اسْتَعَطَ بِدُهْنِ الْجُلْجُلَانِ وَ هُوَ السِّمْسِمُ .
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from more than one person from al-Khashshab from Ghiyath ibn Kalub from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, complained about his head he inhaled sesame oil.”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أُخْتِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ الْيَسَعِ عَنْ قَيْسٍ الْبَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَسْتَعِطَ بِدُهْنِ السِّمْسِمِ .
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘ Abd Allah from certain persons of his people from son of the daughter al-Awzahy from Mas‘adah ibn al-Yasa‘ from Qays al-Bahiliy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liked to inhale the fragrance of sesame oil.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِهْزَمٍ عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَمَّنْ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أُتِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ بِرَيْحَانٍ فَلْيَشَمَّهُ وَ لْيَضَعْهُ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَ إِذَا أُتِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ بِهِ فَلَا يَرُدَّهُ .
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa and Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid all from ibn Mahbub from Ibrahim ibn Mehzam from Talhah ibn Zayd from the one who has narrated it in a marfu ‘ manner has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘If one brings you sweet basil you must smell it and place it on your eyes because it is from the garden (paradises); and if it is brought for you do not reject it.’”
ابْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا أُتِيَ أَحَدُكُمْ بِالرَّيْحَانِ فَلْيَشَمَّهُ وَ لْيَضَعْهُ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ فَإِنَّهُ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ .
2. Ibn Mahbub has narrated from ‘ Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If sweet basil is brought for one of you he must smell it and place it on his eyes because it is from the garden (paradises).”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الرَّيْحَانُ وَاحِدٌ وَ عِشْرُونَ نَوْعاً سَيِّدُهَا الْآسُ .
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from in a marfu‘ manner the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Sweet basil is of twenty-one kinds and the master among them is myrtle.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ فِي يَدِهِ مِخْضَبَةٌ فِيهَا رَيْحَانٌ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Yaqtin from Yunus ibn Ya‘qub who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when there was a bucket for herbs in his hand with sweet basil therein.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ صَاحِبِ الْعَسْكَرِ ( عليه السلام ) فَجَاءَ صَبِيٌّ مِنْ صِبْيَانِهِ فَنَاوَلَهُ وَرْدَةً فَقَبَّلَهَا وَ وَضَعَهَا عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ نَاوَلَنِيهَا وَ قَالَ يَا أَبَا هَاشِمٍ مَنْ تَنَاوَلَ وَرْدَةً أَوْ رَيْحَانَةً فَقَبَّلَهَا وَ وَضَعَهَا عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَئِمَّةِ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ لَهُ الْحَسَنَاتِ مِثْلَ رَمْلِ عَالِجٍ وَ مَحَا عَنْهُ مِنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ .
5. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from certain persons of his people from abu Hashim al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “I once visited abu al-Hassan, Sahib al- ‘Askar, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when one of his children came and give him a flower. He (the Imam) kissed it and placed it on his eyes. He (the Imam) then gave it to me and said, ‘O abu Hashim, one on receiving a flower or a bunch of sweet basil should kiss and then place it on his eyes. Then he should say, ‘O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and ‘A’immah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam. Allah writes for him of merits equal to the sands of the wilderness and deletes of his bad deeds an equal number.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مِنَ السَّعَادَةِ سَعَةُ الْمَنْزِلِ .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from and Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from all from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Spaciousness of the house is of one’s good fortune.”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُعَمَّرِ بْنِ خَلَّادٍ قَالَ إِنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) اشْتَرَى دَاراً وَ أَمَرَ مَوْلًى لَهُ أَنْ يَتَحَوَّلَ إِلَيْهَا وَ قَالَ إِنَّ مَنْزِلَكَ ضَيِّقٌ فَقَالَ قَدْ أَحْدَثَ هَذِهِ الدَّارَ أَبِي فَقَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنْ كَانَ أَبُوكَ أَحْمَقَ يَنْبَغِي أَنْ تَكُونَ مِثْلَهُ .
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, purchased a house and instructed one of his Mawla’ to move in saying, ‘Your house is congested.’ He said, ‘My father has established this house.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If your father was dimwitted, is it proper that you also be like him?”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جَنَاحٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ مَوْلَى مَعْنٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ ثَلَاثَةٌ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ فِيهَا رَاحَةٌ دَارٌ وَاسِعَةٌ تُوَارِي عَوْرَتَهُ وَ سُوءَ حَالِهِ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَ امْرَأَةٌ صَالِحَةٌ تُعِينُهُ عَلَى أَمْرِ الدُّنْيَا وَ الْآخِرَةِ وَ ابْنَةٌ أَوْ أُخْتٌ يُخْرِجُهَا مِنْ مَنْزِلِهِ إِمَّا بِمَوْتٍ أَوْ بِتَزَوُّجٍ .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from Sa‘id ibn Junah from Mutarrif Mawla’ Ma‘n who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Three things provide comfort for a believing person. Of such matters one is a spacious house which provides him privacy for his bad conditions among people, a virtuous wife who helps him in the matters of this and the next life and a daughter or sister whom he sends out of his house in marriage or death.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نُوحِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ رُشَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ الْعَيْشُ السَّعَةُ فِي الْمَنَازِلِ وَ الْفَضْلُ فِي الْخَدَمِ .
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from Sulayman ibn Rashid from his father from Bashir who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Spaciousness of the house and extra help from the servants are of the means of happy living.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ مَنْصُورِ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ أَنَّ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) سُئِلَ عَنْ فَضْلِ عَيْشِ الدُّنْيَا قَالَ سَعَةُ الْمَنْزِلِ وَ كَثْرَةُ الْمُحِبِّينَ .
5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Mansur ibn al-‘Abbas from Sa‘id from more than one person who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the excellence of the worldly life. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in spacious house and in the great number of friends.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي الْبِلَادِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مِنْ شَقَاءِ الْعَيْشِ ضِيقُ الْمَنْزِلِ .
6. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad from Ali ibn abu al-Mughirah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Of the misfortunes in the worldly life is a small and congested house.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الْمَرْءِ الْمُسْلِمِ الْمَسْكَنُ الْوَاسِعُ .
7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Of the good fortune for a Muslim man is spaciousness of the house.’”
