وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ شَكَا رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنَّ الدُّورَ قَدِ اكْتَنَفَتْهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) ارْفَعْ صَوْتَكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتَ وَ سَلِ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُوَسِّعَ عَلَيْكَ .
8. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “Once, a man of the people of al-Ansar complained before the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, that houses have caused great congestions for him. The Holy Prophet said to him, ‘Raise your voice as much as you can and ask Allah to make it spacious for you.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Khalid and al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Jawhariy from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Once Jibril came to me and said, “O Muhammad, your Lord sends you greeting of peace and prohibits you to decorate the houses.’” Abu Basir has said, ‘I asked what is decorating the house?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is pictures and statues.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ ( عليه السلام ) أَتَانِي فَقَالَ إِنَّا مَعَاشِرَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَ لَا تِمْثَالُ جَسَدٍ وَ لَا إِنَاءٌ يُبَالُ فِيهِ .
2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from Muhammad ibn Marwan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Once Jibril came to me and said, ‘We the community of angels do not enter a house in which there is a dog, statues or a pot in which people urinate.”””
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban ‘Uthman from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Jibril has said, ‘We do not enter a house in which there are pictures, or a dog, that is, pictures of human beings or a house in which statues exist.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one forms a statue, he on the Day of Judgment will be held responsible to blow the spirit in it.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنِ الْمُثَنَّى عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلام ) كَرِهَ الصُّورَةَ فِي الْبُيُوتِ .
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from al-Muthanna’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Ali, Alayhi al-Salam, disliked the existence of pictures in houses.’”
6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, about the pillow or furnishings which have pictures on them. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful if it is in the house.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Anything with pictures which is used under the feet is not harmful.’”
7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad and ‘Abd Allah sons of Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from abu al-‘Abbas who has said the following: “About the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . they made for him whatever he wanted like prayer niche, statues . . .’ (34:12) abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘They (statues) by Allah were not the statues of man and women, they, however, were of trees and similar things.’”
8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Jamil ibn Darraj from Zurarah ibn ’A‘yan who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The existence of al-Tamathil (pictures or statues) in a house is not harmful if their heads are changed and the rest is left.’”
9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-‘Amrakiy ibn Ali from Ali ibn Ja‘far who has said the following: “I asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the house or a room in which there are pictures; if Salat (prayer) can be performed there. He (the Imam) said, ‘Do not perform Salat (prayer) where in front of you there is something (as such), unless you have no choice then you must cut their heads, otherwise, do not perform Salat (prayer) there.”’
10. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah all from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy, from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from al-Husayn ibn al-Mundhir who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘Three kinds of people will be in suffering on the Day of Judgment. Of such people, one is a man who lies about his dream. He will be held responsible to form a knot between two pieces of barley grains and he will never be able to do so. One is a man who builds statues. He will be held responsible to blow the spirit in it and he will never be able to do so.’” (The third according to al-Saduq is one who listens to a people who do not like him. Lead will be poured in his ears.)
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فِي هَدْمِ الْقُبُورِ وَ كَسْرِ الصُّوَرِ .
11. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, sent me to destroy the graves and pictures (forms).”’
12. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from more than one person from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Amr ibn Khalid who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Jibril, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, we do not enter a house in which picture of human beings exists or a house in which people urinate or a house in which a dog exists.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شِمْرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْكِنْدِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ كَانَ صَاحِبَ مِطْهَرَةِ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّا لَا نَدْخُلُ بَيْتاً فِيهِ تِمْثَالٌ لَا يُوطَأُ . الْحَدِيثُ مُخْتَصَرٌ .
13. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn Salim from Ahmad ibn al-Nadr from ‘Amr ibn Shamir from Jabir from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yahya al-Kindiy from his father who provided water for ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, for his wudu who has said the following: “Amir al-Mu’minin, has said, that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said that Jibril, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, has said, ‘We do not enter a house in which a picture on which feet are not set exists . . . Hadith in brief.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ فَقَالَ لَا تَدَعْ صُورَةً إِلَّا مَحَوْتَهَا وَ لَا قَبْراً إِلَّا سَوَّيْتَهُ وَ لَا كَلْباً إِلَّا قَتَلْتَهُ .
14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Once the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, sent me to al-Madinah saying, “Do not leave any picture without being deleted, any graves without being leveled and any dog without being put to sleep.’””
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from ‘ Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl al- Nawfaliy, from Ziyad ibn ‘Umar and al-Ju‘fiy from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has appointed an angel on buildings who says to those who raise a roof higher than eight yards (arms length), “Where do you want to go, O sinful person?’””
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam and others who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If the roof of a house is higher than seven’ or as he (the Imam) said, ‘eight yards (arm-length), it is the residence of Satan or his living quarter.’”
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim and a number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah and Sahl ibn Ziyad all from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from abu Muhammad al-Ansariy from Aban ibn ‘Uthman who has said the following: “A man once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about people of the land mocking at his family and children. He (the Imam) asked, ‘How much is the height of your house?’ He replied, ‘It is ten yards.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Make it eight yards, then write verse 2:255 between the eigth and tenth yards as you go around; a house with a roof higher than eight yards is an assembly place for Jinn who come and live there.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Isma‘il ibn Marrar and Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father all from Yunus from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “About the case of the roof of a house which is eight yards high, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that it is a residence. If it is higher than eight yards, then on the level of eight yard height you must write verse 2:255.’”
5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn Sinan from Hamzah ibn Humran who has said the following: “Once, a man complained before abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Jinn has expelled us from our homes.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Keep the height of the roof of your houses seven yards (arm-length).’ The man has said, ‘We followed the instruction and thereafter we did not see anything that we dislike.’”
6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Bashir from Al-Husayn Zurarah from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Build your house seven yards high; anything higher than this becomes residence of Satans. Satans do not live in the sky or on earth. They live in the air.’”
7. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith Ali ibn al-Hakam and Muhassan ibn Ahmad from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If the height of the house is more than eight yards (Zira’ arm-length) then write verse 2:255 above that level.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنْ يُبَاتَ عَلَى سَطْحٍ غَيْرِ مُحَجَّرٍ .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn af-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited sleeping on the flat roof without a safety fencing wall around it.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ الْيَسَعِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنْ بَاتَ عَلَى سَطْحٍ غَيْرِ مُحَجَّرٍ فَأَصَابَهُ شَيْءٌ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ إِلَّا نَفْسَهُ .
2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Ali ibn Ishaq from Sahl ibn al-Yasa’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who sleeps on a flat roof without a safety fencing walls around it and if something happened to him, he must not blame anyone except his own soul.”’
3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from al-Hajj al from ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked a man’s sleeping overnight on a flat roof without safety fencing wall around it. It is the same for both men women.’”
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked a man’s sleeping alone overnight on a flat roof without safety fencing wall around it; and that it is the same for both men and women.’”
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah and others who has said the following: “About the case of a flat roof without fencing wall around it abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If the height of the fencing wall around a flat roof is two yards (Zira’ arm-length) it is sufficient.’”
6. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Is ibn al-Qasim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about sleeping overnight on a flat roof without fencing wall around it. He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited it.’ I then asked if three yards (Zira’ arm-length) is sufficient for the height of such fencing wall. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is four.’ I then asked, ‘How much is the length of the wall?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The shortest is one yard (Zira’ arm-length) and one Shibr. (the distance from the tip of the thump to the tip of the little finger with the thump and little finger open and stretched out).”’
1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from al-Sayyariy, from a shaykh from a certain persons of our people from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Of the bitterness in life is moving from one house to another house and eating bread made of colocynth.’”
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one earns an asset through unlawful means Allah overpowers him by means of building, water and clay.”’
3. Ibn abu ‘Umayr has narrated from Husayn ibn ‘Uthman man who has said the following: “I once saw abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, in Mina where he built a structure, then destroyed it.’”
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad fn Ali ibn Asbat from Dawud al-Riqqiy who has said the following: "I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘There is not anything that does not say Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) and praise Him but you do not understand their Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects).’ (17:34) He (the Imam) said, ‘The breaking down of a wall is its saying Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects).”’
5. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Ishaq from Sa‘dan ibn Muslim from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must sweep the yard of your house and do not become similar to the Jews.’”
6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle Ya‘qub ibn Salim in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must not allow the dust to accumulate behind the door; it becomes a resort for Satans.’”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Safwan ibn Yahya from abu Jamilah from Hamid al- Sayrafiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The constructions that are not within owner’s budget will be a burden for him on the Day of Judgment.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَنْسُ الْبَيْتِ يَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ .
8. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of his people in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Sweep the house, it removes poverty.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْتاً مُظْلِماً إِلَّا بِمِصْبَاحٍ .
9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited entering a dark house without a lamp.’”
10. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ibrahim ibn Ahmad al-Thaqafiy from Ali ibn al-Mu‘alla’ from Ibrahim ibn al-Khattab in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, The lower parts of the wall complained before Allah because of the weight of the upper parts and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, inspired it saying, ‘Certain parts of you must leave the other parts.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ عَنْ عِيسَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) بَيْتُ الشَّيَاطِينِ مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ بَيْتُ الْعَنْكَبُوتِ .
11. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salmah ibn al-Khattab from Ibrahim ibn Maymun from ‘Isa ibn ‘Abd Allah from his grandfather who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The house of Satans in your houses are the spider webs.’”
12. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about closing the doors, turning the utensils around and turning-off the lamp. He (the Imam) said, ‘Close your door; Satan does not open the door, turnoff the lamp against al-Fuwaysaqah which is the mouse, do not burn your house and secure the utensils (by means of cover and so on). It is narrated that Satan does not remove the cover.’”
أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) إِسْرَاجُ السِّرَاجِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَغِيبَ الشَّمْسُ يَنْفِي الْفَقْرَ .
13. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Turning on the lamp before sunset banishes poverty.’”
14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, wanted to travel in summer he would leave on Thursday, and in winter because of cold enter on Friday. It also is narrated that his leaving and entering took place on a Friday night.’”
15. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said that abu Hashim al-Ja‘fariy has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Thalith, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has made certain areas of the earth called recipient of mercy. He has liked that He is asked for help therein so He might answer such prayers. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has made certain parts of the earth as disliked, thus if a man earns a certain amount of assets therein through unlawful ways, Allah makes a certain area to control him and spend his earnings therein.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn al-Qaddah from his father who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he asked saying, ‘O Maymun, who sleeps near you in the night, is there a slave with you?’ I replied, ‘No, no one sleeps near me.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Do not sleep alone; Satan becomes more daring against man when he finds him alone.’”
2. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Mahbub al-‘ Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘Unless Allah wills otherwise, something from Satan reaches very fast to one who defecates on a grave or urinates standing or urinates in stagnant water or walks in one shoe or drinks water standing, or stays in a house alone or sleeps overnight with his hands greasy with animal fat. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once travelled in a group of people during an armed expedition and reached in the valley where Jinns lived. He (the Messenger of Allah) called his companions saying, ‘Every one of you must hold the hand of another one and no one must enter alone and no one must walk ahead.’ One man moved forward alone, he completed the area of the valley but he became epileptic. The Messenger of Allah was informed about it and he (the Messenger of Allah) pressed his finger against him and touched, then said, ‘In the name of Allah, O filthy (Jinn) move out, I am the Messenger of Allah.’ He then stood up.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban al-Ahmar from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Satan is the strongest against man when he is alone without anything and I say that he must not sleep alone.’”
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who sleeps in a house alone. He (the Imam) said, ‘I dislike it but if it is an emergency, then it is not harmful, however, he must speak of Allah a great deal and as much as he can, when he goes to sleep.’”
5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah and Muhammad ibn Sinan from Talhah ibn Zayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked one’s sleeping in a house which does not have a door or a curtain.’”
وَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَرِهَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْتاً مُظْلِماً إِلَّا بِسِرَاجٍ .
6. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, disliked entering a dark house without a lamp.”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah from his father Maymun who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once asked Muhammad ibn Sulayman, ‘Where have you found lodging?’ He replied, ‘It is in so and so place.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘Is there anyone else with you?’ he replied, ‘No, there is no one with me.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Move from there, O Maymun and do not stay there alone; Satan is most daring against man when he is alone.’”
