2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin was asked about a package of food which is found having been left on the road, in which there is a large amount of meat, bread, eggs and cheese and there is a knife in it. ’Amir al-Mu’minin said, ‘It must be evaluated and its contents used for food because it is perishable; and if someone claims it, the evaluated price must be paid to him.’ It was said, ‘O ’Amir al-Mu’minin, it is not known if it belongs to a Muslim or it is a package of a Zoroastrian.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are free to use it until they know.”’
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَأْكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيهِ .
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘When you eat you must eat from what is nearest to you.’”
حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْخَشَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ بَقَّاحٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَلْطَعُ الْقَصْعَةَ وَ يَقُولُ مَنْ لَطَعَ قَصْعَةً فَكَأَنَّمَا تَصَدَّقَ بِمِثْلِهَا .
4. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Khashshab from ibn Baqqah from ‘Amr ibn Jami’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, when eating would wipe the dish clean and say, “Whoever, wipes the dish clean is as if has given charity as much.’””
5. Ali ibn Muhammad in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would brush his teeth widthwise and eat using all of his fingers.’”
6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Hashim from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would sit like slaves, place his hand on the ground and eat with his three fingers. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would also eat in the same way and not the way a tyrant one eats with his two fingers.’”
7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “When one of you eats food he should wipe (lick) his fingers, clean with which he has eaten; Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, ‘Allah grants you blessings.”””
8. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from Yasir al-Khadim who has said the following: “One day boys ate fruit but they did not eat them all and threw them away. Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, said to them, ’Allah is free of all defects, if you did not need them, there are people who need them. You must feed those who are needy.’”
9. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about Salat (prayer) for which the time has begun and food is made available. He (the Imam) said, ‘If it is the beginning of the time for Salat (prayer), then first begin with food; but if the time has passed and you are afraid of missing Salat (prayer) for which you then must do Qada’ (the compensatory Salat), then begin with Salat (prayer) first.’”
10. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from Yasar al-Khadim and Nadir who both have said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to us, ‘If I stand up above you when you are eating, do not stand up until you complete eating.’ Perhaps he called a certain one of us and it was said that they are eating; he (the Imam) would say, ’Leave them until they finish.’”
11. It is narrated from Nadir al-Khadim who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would not ask us to work when we were eating until we finished eating.’”
وَ رَوَى نَادِرٌ الْخَادِمُ قَالَ كَانَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَضَعُ جَوْزِينَجَةً عَلَى الْأُخْرَى وَ يُنَاوِلُنِي .
12. It is narrated from Nadir al-Khadim who has said the following “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would place Jawzinajah (a type of sweet) one on top of the other, and then give them to me.’”
13. Ahmad has narrated from his father from Sulayman al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when food was made available and certain people had not washed their hands, would say, ‘Those whose hands are clean can eat without washing their hands.’”
14. Ahmad has narrated from Yahya ibn Ibrahim from Muhammad ibn Yahya from ibn abu al-Balad from his father from Bazi‘ ibn ‘Umar ibn Bazi‘ who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when he was eating vinegar with oil in a black bowl, in the middle of which it was written, ‘Say Allah is one’. He (the Imam) said to me, ‘Come close, O Bazi’’. I went close and ate with him (the Imam). He (the Imam) sipped water three times when bread was finished; then he gave it to me and I drank the rest of the water.’”
15. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad who has said the following: “I once heard al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one eats food in his house and pieces fall, he must pick them up; but if one eats in wilderness or out of the house he can leave such pieces for the birds and beasts.’”
16. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman who has said the following: “’Isma’il prepared food for a ceremony and abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to him, ’You must pay attention to the destitute to satisfy their hunger. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, says, “Falsehood is not served first or revisited for service.” (34:49)”’
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ رَفَعَهُ عَنْهُمْ ( عليهم السلام ) قَالُوا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ لَقَّمَ مَنْ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَ إِذَا شَرِبَ سَقَى مَنْ عَلَى يَمِينِهِ .
17. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl in a marfu‘ manner has said, the following: “’A’immah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, have said that the Holy Prophet, when eating would eat from what was in front of (nearest to) him, and when drinking would offer water to one on his right side.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تُؤْوُوا مِنْدِيلَ الْغَمَرِ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَإِنَّهُ مَرْبِضٌ لِلشَّيَاطِينِ.
18. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from a number of our people have narrated from Ali ibn Asbat from Ya‘qub ibn Salim in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Do not leave a food-stained towel at home without its being washed; it becomes plaything for Satan.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَطْرِفُوا أَهَالِيَكُمْ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ بِشَيْءٍ مِنَ الْفَاكِهَةِ أَوِ اللَّحْمِ حَتَّى يَفْرَحُوا بِالْجُمُعَةِ .
19. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Every Friday present fruits to your family or meat, so that they become happy because of Friday.’”
20. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Whoever builds a house should slaughter a healthy ram and feed its meat to the destitute. He then should say, ‘O Lord, drive away from me defiant ones of Jinn and men and Shayatin and bless for us our homes,’ whatever he asks will be granted.’”
21. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When you eat [something], then lie down on your back, then place your right leg on your left leg.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Eat what falls off of food, because in it is cure for all kinds of illness by the permission of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, for those who seek cures.’”
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Salih ibn al-Sindiy from Ja‘far ibn Bashir from Aban ‘Uthman from Dawud ibn Kathir who has said the following: “Once I had dinner with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, at ‘Atmah (time of late evening Salat (prayer)). When he (the Imam) ended his dinner, he praised Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and said, ‘This is my (manner of having) dinner and the dinner of my ancestors. When the table-spread was pulled out, he (the Imam) picked pieces of food fallen on it and ate them.’”
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid from ‘Abd Allah ibn Salih al- Khath’amiy who has said the following: “I once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, against lower back pain. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must eat pieces of food that fall on the table-spread.’ I (the narrator) followed the instruction and the pain went away. Ibrahim has said, ‘I then found it on the left and the right side; I did the same thing again and benefited thereby.’”
4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Mansur ibn al-‘Abbas from al-Hassan ibn Wahab from his father who has said the following: “Once we ate food with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. When the table-spread was collected, he (the Imam) picked up the pieces that had fallen on it and ate them then said to us, ‘This removes poverty and increases the number of children.’”
5. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Khashshab from ibn Baqqah from ‘Amr ibn Jami’ who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “If one finds pieces of food and eats them it is one good deed, and if one finds them in unclean places, then washes them, then picks them up, he will have seventy good deeds recorded for him.’””
6. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: from ‘Amr ibn Jami’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once entered ‘A’ishah’s home and saw pieces of food on which he was about to step. He (the Messenger of Allah) picked them up and said, ‘O Humayra’ you must honor the company of the bounties of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, with you; from whoever they get farther away they never then return to them.’”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad, from ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn Ali from Ibrahim ibn Mehzam who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once a man complained before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, against his lower back pain. He (the Imam) said, ‘Why do you not eat pieces of food that fall on the table-spread/”
8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If one eats food in his house and pieces of food fall off, he must pick them up and eat; but if one eats food in the wilderness or outdoors he should leave such pieces for the birds and beasts.”’ (See also Ch. 48, h 15)
9. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from certain persons of his people from al- Asamm from ‘ Abd Allah al-Arjaniy who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he was eating. I saw him searching for pieces of food fallen on the table-spread of the size of sesame seed. I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, are you looking for such pieces?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O ‘Abd Allah, it is your sustenance; do not leave them, and besides there is cure in them for all kinds of illness.’”
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘ Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah ‘Amr ibn Shamir who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘I lick food from my fingers but I fear my servants’ seeing me and their thinking that I am greedy. That is not true. A people upon whom bounties were poured owned a very large canal. They bleached the wheat for bread for food and used it to wipe their children with it until the dumpsite became like a huge mountain. A virtuous man passed by and saw a woman wipe her child with it. He said to them, ‘Fie upon you, have fear of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and do not change the bounty you enjoy.’ She said, ‘Are you frightening us of hunger? As long as we have our great canal flowing we will not be afraid of hunger.’ It angered Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, and He made their canal to weaken, stopped the sky to rain on them and the earth to grow (anything ). He (the Imam) said, ‘They became needy of that dumpsite and divided it among them by means of balance.’”
2. Afi ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “It is a narration of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, from the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Messenger of Allah) once said, ‘You must treat bread with reverence because from the throne to earth and what is in it, a large number of His creatures have worked for it (to make it ready).’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then said, ‘Will you like if I tell you something?’ They replied, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah, we pray to Allah to keep the fathers and mothers in service for your cause.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Among the Prophets before you there was a Prophet called Daniel. He once gave one loaf of bread to the owner of the crossing (means) to help for crossing. He threw the bread away saying, ‘It is of no use for me. We crush bread under our foot.’ When Daniel saw it, he raised his hands to the sky and said, ‘O Lord, make bread revered because I saw what this servant just did to it and what he said.’ Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent revelation to the sky and told it to withhold rain and the earth to turn into a piece of pottery.’ It did not rain and they ended up eating each other. When their condition reached the point which Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, wanted, one woman said to the other, who each had a child, to one day eat the child of one of them. The other woman agreed and they ate the child. When they became hungry again the other woman demanded to eat the child of the other woman but she refused saying, ‘Between us there is the Prophet of Allah.’ They went to Daniel, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, for judgment. He said to them, ‘I can see to what degree the condition has reached.’ They said, ‘Yes, O Prophet of Allah and it is more difficult.’ He raised his hands to the sky and said, ‘O Lord, return to us with Your generosity, and the extra of Your mercy and do not make the children to suffer because of the sins of the owner of the crossing and his disrespecting Your bounties.’ Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, commanded the sky to send rain and earth to grow produce for His creatures what they had lost of the goodness because He had turned to them with kindness through the small child.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from al-Mithamiy from Aban ibn Taghlib who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A loaf of bread must not be placed under the dish.”
4. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from al-Sayyariy from Ali ibn Asbat from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must treat bread with reverence.’ It was asked, ‘What is treating it with reverence?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘When it is made available one must not wait for others.’”
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘ Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Talhah ibn Zayd from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “He (the Imam) has said that the Messenger of Allah, once said, ‘You must treat bread with reverence.’ It was asked, ‘What is its reverence?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘When it is made available one must not wait for others.’ The Messenger of Allah has said that of treating it with reverence is not to step on it or cut it.’”
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must never smell bread like the beasts do. Bread is blessed and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has sent the sky with rain and because of it He has grown the pastures. By means of bread you perform Salat (prayer), observe fast and perform al-Hajj of the House of your Lord.’”
وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أُوتِيتُمْ بِالْخُبْزِ وَ اللَّحْمِ فَابْدَءُوا بِالْخُبْزِ فَسُدُّوا بِهِ خِلَالَ الْجُوعِ ثُمَّ كُلُوا اللَّحْمَ .
7. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “He (the Imam) has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘When bread and meat is brought for you, eat bread first to stop the emptiness of hunger, then eat the meat.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَقْطِينٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) صَغِّرُوا رُغْفَانَكُمْ فَإِنَّ مَعَ كُلِّ رَغِيفٍ بَرَكَةًوَ قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ يَقْطِينٍ رَأَيْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ يَعْنِي الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) يَكْسِرُ الرَّغِيفَ إِلَى فَوْقُ .
8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Tsa from Ya’qub ibn Yaqtin who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’ ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Make your bread of small loaves because there is blessing with each loaf.’ Ya‘qub ibn Yaqtin has said, ‘I saw abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, break the bread upward.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ السَّيَّارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ رَفَعَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ أُدْمٌ قَطَعَ الْخُبْزَ بِالسِّكِّينِ .
9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Sayyariy from abu Ali ibn Rashid in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when ’Amir al-Mu’minin did not have curry; he would cut the bread with a knife.’”
السَّيَّارِيُّ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَدْنَى الْأُدْمِ قَطْعُ الْخُبْزِ بِالسِّكِّينِ .
10. Al-Sayyariy in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the least of curry is to cut the bread with a knife.’”
11. Ali ibn Muhammad Bandar and others have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Fadl al- Nawfaliy from al-Fadl ibn Yunus who has said the following: “I once had lunch with abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and the dish was brought with bread underneath the dish. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must revere bread and do not allow it to be placed under the dish.’ He (the Imam) then said to me to command the slave to take the bread from underneath the dish.”’
12. Ahmad has narrated from ibn Faddal from af-Mithamiy from abu Basir who has said the foiiowing: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked placing of the loaf of bread under the dish.’”
أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُمْهُورٍ عَنْ إِدْرِيسَ بْنِ يُوسُفَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تَقْطَعُوا الْخُبْزَ بِالسِّكِّينِ وَ لَكِنِ اكْسِرُوهُ بِالْيَدِ وَ لْيُكْسَرْ لَكُمْ خَالِفُوا الْعَجَمَ .
13. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ya’qub ibn Yazid from Muhammad ibn Jumhur from Idris ibn Yusuf who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Do not cut bread with knife but break it with your hand and others must break it for you. You must do the opposite of al-‘Ajam (non- Arabs).”’
14. Afi ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ’Isa from Yunus who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Do not cut bread with knife, instead break it with the hands and do the opposite of al-Ajam (non- Arabs).”’

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, The excellence of barley bread over wheat bread is like our excellence over the people. There had not been any Prophet, who did not ask to eat barley bread and blessed it. In whichever stomach it enters, it removes every illness thereof. It is the sustenance of the Prophets and the food of the virtuous ones. Allah, most High, disdained to make the food of His Prophets in anything other than barley.”’
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Nothing more useful enters the stomach of one suffering from Tuberculosis than bread of rice.’”
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from al-Khashshab from Ali ibn Hassan from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Feed bread of rice to a person suffering from diarrhea; nothing else is more useful for such a sufferer than this, it also tans (treats) the stomach and dispels the pain sufficiently.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from af-Sayyariy from Yahya ibn abu Rafi’ and other in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘No other food from lunch remains inside until night except bread of rice.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from abu Hammam from Sulayman al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, sawiq is a very good food. If you are hungry, it holds you. If you are full it digests your food.”’
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jundab from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Once, sawiq was mentioned before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he (the Imam) said, ‘It was prepared by the instruction of divine revelation.’”
3. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Ishaq from Bakr ibn Muhammad who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, sawiq grows flesh and strengthens the bones .’”
