2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd ‘Abd al-’Aziz al-‘Abdiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When cheese and walnut come together in each of them there is a cure but separately each one has an illness with it.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Idris ibn al-Hassan from ‘Ubayd ibn Zurarah who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Walnut and cheese together are medicine but separately they are ailments and diseases.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from and al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn Faddal from Yunus ibn Ya’qub who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ’From your area no other thing comes more desirable to me than rice and viola. I had intense pain and I was inspired to eat rice. I ordered to wash it, dry it, and pick up to grind it, then in a powder form with oil and a mixture, I drank it. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, removed with it that pain.”’
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Isma’il ibn Marrar and others from Yunus from Hisham ibn al-Hakam from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once saw the nurse of abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, feed him rice with morsels and threw it on him. It made me upset and I went to see abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who said to me, ‘I think what you have seen from the nurse of abu al-Hassan, Musa, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has made you upset.’ I replied, ‘Yes, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, food from rice expands the intestine and cuts down hemorrhoids. We deem people of Iraq as fortunate for their eating rice and fresh dates because they expand the intestine and cut down hemorrhoids.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from abu Sulayman al-Hadhddha’ from Muhammad ibn al- Fayd who has said the following: “I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, that a man came to him (the Imam) and said, ‘My daughter has become weak and she is pregnant.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘What prevents you from feeding her rice with fat? Take four pieces of stone or five and place them near the fire. Cook the rice in a pot until it is cooked. Take the fresh fat of a kidney. When rice is cooked then place the fat in a pot with the stones, then cover it with another pot and stir it fairly well. Fix the pots so that no steam comes out. When the fat melts; then place it in the rice, then she can eat it (ingest it).”’
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Rice is very good food and we preserve it for our people who suffer from illnesses.’”
5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Yahya ibn ‘Isa from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Rice is very good and we use it as medicine to cure our people from illness.’”
6. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Khalid ibn Najih who has said the following: “I once complained before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about pain in my belly. He (the Imam) said, ‘Take rice, wash it, then dry it in the shadow, crush it; then take one fill of your palm every morning.’ Ishaq al-Jaririy has added that it should be fried a little and taken one awqiyah to drink.”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Faddal from Tha’labah ibn Maymun from Humran who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once experienced pain in his belly and he ordered to cook rice for him (the Imam) with sumac on it, and after eating it the pain went away from him (the Imam).’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from Nadir al-Khadim who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would eat cooked chickpeas before and after food.’”
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘People narrate that the Holy Prophet has said, “Seventy Prophets have blessed chickpeas.’” He (the Imam) said, ‘This is what you call chickpeas but we call it lintels.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from fadalah from Rifa‘ah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘When Allah, most Blessed, most High, granted good health to Ayyub, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, he looked to the Israelites who had their plantations. He raised his eyes to the sky and said, ‘O Lord, my Master, this is Your slave Ayyub who was in suffering and You granted him good health but he does not have any plantation. These are people of banu Israel who have their plantations.’ Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent him revelation that said, ‘Take a handful from you rosary beads and use it as seed .’ His rosary beads had salt in it, Ayyub, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, took a handful from it and used it as seed and what grew was this lintel. You call it chickpeas and we call it lintels.’”
4. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Chickpeas are good cures for back pain and he (the Imam) would ask for it before and after food.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) أَكْلُ الْعَدَسِ يُرِقُّ الْقَلْبَ وَ يُكْثِرُ الدَّمْعَةَ .
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’Eating lintels softens the heart and increases tears.’”
2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Furat ibn Ahnaf (in a Maqtu ’ manner) who has said the following: “A certain person of the Israelites complained before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, about hardheartedness and lack of tears. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, revealed to him to eat lintels. He followed the instruction and his tears began to flow.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْفُضَيْلِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قَسَاوَةَ الْقَلْبِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَلَيْكَ بِالْعَدَسِ فَإِنَّهُ يُرِقُّ الْقَلْبَ وَ يُسْرِعُ الدَّمْعَةَ .
3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn al-Fudayl from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once a man complained before the Holy Prophet, about hardheartedness. He (the Messenger of Allah) told him to eat lintels; it softens the heart and makes tears to flow quicker.’”
4. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Dawud ibn Ishaq al-Hadhdha’ from Muhammad ibn al-Fayd who has said the following: “I once ate with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, broth with lintels and I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, these people say that lintels are blessed by seventy Prophets.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They have spoken a lie, no, by Allah not even twenty Prophets have done so.’ It is narrated that it softens the heart and makes the tears to flow quicker.”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Musa ibn Ja‘far from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan from ‘Umar ibn Salmah from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Eating broad beans grows bone marrows of the legs, adds in the brain and produces fresh blood.”’
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Eating broad beans grows the bone marrow of the legs and produces fresh blood.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from certain persons of his people from Salih ibn ‘Uqbah who has said the following: “I once, heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Eat broad beans with its peels. It cleanses (tans) the stomach.’”
4. Ali ibn Muhammad from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn abu Najran from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Kidney beans dispel gases from the belly.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Jallab certain persons of our people who have said the following: “Once a man complained before abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about vitiligo (white spots on one’s skin) and he (the Imam) commanded him to cook al-Mash then drink it and make it a part of his food.”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ayyub ibn Nuh who has said the following: “I once ate Harisah (mashed meat and grains) with al-Jawars with abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he (the Imam) said, ‘It is a kind of food which is not heavy or troublesome. I like it so I ordered to use it with my food, however, with milk it is more beneficial and soft on stomach.”’
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from certain persons of our people from Ali ibn Hassan from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Kathir who has said the following: “I once became ill in al-Madinah because of diarrhea and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, described for me how to prepare a sawiq (fried flour) of al-Jawars and commanded me to use sawiq of al- Jawars and drink it with water of al-Kamun (cumin). I followed the instruction and the diarrhea stopped.’”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ibrahim ibn ‘Uqbah from Muyassir from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd ‘Abd al-’Aziz from his father who has said the following: “About the meaning of the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . he must find clean and pure food and must bring thereof for you for your sustenance 5 (18:9) abu Ja‘far, or abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Dates are the most pure food.’”
عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِهْزَمٍ عَنْ عَنْبَسَةَ بْنِ بِجَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا قُدِّمَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) طَعَامٌ فِيهِ تَمْرٌ إِلَّا بَدَأَ بِالتَّمْرِ .
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from ibn Sinan from Ibrahim ibn Mehzam from ‘ Anbasah ibn Bijad who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Whenever food was brought to the Messenger of Allah in which there were dates, he began with dates.’”
عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَرَى الرَّجُلَ تَمْرِيّاً لِحُبِّ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) التَّمْرَ .
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hanan ibn Sadir from his father who has said the following: “Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, loved to see a man who liked (worked with) dates because of the love of the Messenger for Allah for dates.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Urn ay r from abu al-Mighra’ from certain persons of his people from ‘Uqbah ibn Bashir who has said the following: “Once we visited abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he (the Imam) asked for dates which we then ate with him (the Imam), but quite a lot of it. The Imam then said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘I like a man who is a man of dates (likes dates).”’
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Amr ibn ‘Uthman from abu ‘Amr from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The best of your dates is al- Barniy (a certain kind of date) which removes illnesses and there is no illness in it. It takes away fatigue, there is no harm in it, and it dissolves phlegm. With every date there is one good deed.’ In another Hadith it is said that dates give one delight, palatability, take away fatigue and satisfy one’s hunger.’”
عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الرَّازِيِّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) وَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ تَمْرٌ بَرْنِيٌّ وَ هُوَ مُجِدٌّ فِي أَكْلِهِ يَأْكُلُهُ بِشَهْوَةٍ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سُلَيْمَانُ ادْنُ فَكُلْ قَالَ فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ فَأَكَلْتُ مَعَهُ وَ أَنَا أَقُولُ لَهُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ إِنِّي أَرَاكَ تَأْكُلُ هَذَا التَّمْرَ بِشَهْوَةٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ إِنِّي لَأُحِبُّهُقَالَ قُلْتُ وَ لِمَ ذَاكَ قَالَ لِأَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ عَلِيٌّ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ الْحَسَنُ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْحُسَيْنُ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ زَيْنُ الْعَابِدِينَ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ كَانَ أَبِي ( عليه السلام ) تَمْرِيّاً وَ أَنَا تَمْرِيٌّ وَ شِيعَتُنَا يُحِبُّونَ التَّمْرَ لِأَنَّهُمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ طِينَتِنَا وَ أَعْدَاؤُنَا يَا سُلَيْمَانُ يُحِبُّونَ الْمُسْكِرَ لِأَنَّهُمْ خُلِقُوا مِنْ مَارِجٍ مِنْ نَارٍ .
6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il al-Raziy from Sulayman ibn Ja‘far al- Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Once I visited abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and there were barniy dates in front of him. He (the Imam) seemed assiduous in eating it with zest. He (the Imam) said, ‘O Sulayman come close and eat.’ I then went close and ate thereof saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I see you eat it with great zest.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, because I love it.’ He (the narrator) has said, that I asked, ‘Why is it so?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is because the Messenger of Allah liked dates. Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, liked dates. Al-Hassan liked dates, abu ‘Abd Allah, al-Husayn liked dates, Zayn al-‘Abidin liked dates, Abu Ja‘far, liked dates, abu ‘Abd Allah, liked dates, my father liked dates, I like dates and our followers like dates because they are created from our clay; and our enemies, O Sulayman like intoxicants because they are created from smokeless fire.’”
7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Isma‘il ibn Marrar from Yunus from Hisham ibn al-Hakam from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘ Al-Barniy dates give one delight, and palatability. It is a medicine without illness. It takes away fatigue and with every date there is one good deed.’”
8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from Ali ibn Khattab al-Hallal from al-‘ Ala’ ibn Razin who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to me, ‘O ‘Ala’, do you know what was the first tree that grew on earth?’ I replied, ‘Allah, His Messenger and the child of His Messenger know best. He (the Imam) said, ‘It was al-‘Ajwah. What is pure is al-‘Ajwah (a certain kind of date) and whatever is other than this they are only of the similar one’s.’”
9. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Rib‘iy from ‘Abd Allah ibn al- Fudayl who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent al-‘Ajwah and al-‘Atiq from the sky.’ I then asked, ‘What is al-‘Atiq ?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is the male.’”
10. Muhammad ibn Yahya One Hundred and Twenty Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn abu Hashim from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘al-‘Ajxvah is the mother of dates which Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent for Adam from paradise.’”
11. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Ahmad ibn ‘A’idh from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘al-‘Ajwah is the mother of dates. It is the date that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent from paradise for Adam, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, as mentioned in His words, ‘. . . whatever you cut down of palm trees and left standing on their trunks’ is a reference to al-‘Ajwah.’”
مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَمَّرِ بْنِ خَلَّادٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَتْ نَخْلَةُ مَرْيَمَ ( عليها السلام ) الْعَجْوَةَ وَ نَزَلَتْ فِي كَانُونَ وَ نَزَلَ مَعَ آدَمَ ( عليه السلام ) الْعَتِيقُ وَ الْعَجْوَةُ وَ مِنْهَا تَفَرَّقَ أَنْوَاعُ النَّخْلِ .
12. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Mu’ammar ibn Khallad who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The palm tree of Mary was al-‘Ajwah which was sent in the month of Kanun (one of the months of winter). With Adam al-‘Atiq and al- ‘Ajwah were sent, from these other kinds of palm trees spread.’”
13. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Hashim from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Once we took date-stones of al-‘ Ajwah from al-Madinah and a friend of us planted them in a garden. What grew thereof was al-Sukkar, al-Hirun, al-Shahriz and al-Sarfan (names of certain kinds of dates) and all kinds of dates.’”
14. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Al-Sarfan is the master of your dates.’”
15. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Ishaq and Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Tsma‘il all from Sa‘dan ibn Muslim from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “When abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, went to al-Hirah, he (the Imam) rode a stumper and with him (the Imam) was a black slave. A man from al-Kufah who had bought a garden of palm trees saw him (the Imam). The man asked the slave, ‘Who is he?’ He replied, ‘He is Ja‘far ibn Muhammad, ‘Alayhi al-Salam .’ He then brought a large tray and placed it before him (the Imam). He (the Imam) asked, ‘What is this?’ He replied, ‘It is al-Barniy .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In it there is a cure/ He (the Imam) then looked at al-Saberiy and asked, ‘What is this?’ He replied, ‘It is al-Saberiy .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We call it al-Biyd .’ About al-Mushan he (the Imam) asked, ‘What is this?’ He replied, ‘It is al-Mushan .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We call it ‘Umm Jirdhan.’ He (the Imam) looked at al-Sarfan and asked, ‘What is this?’ He replied, ‘It is al-Sarfan .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We call it al-‘Ajwah and in it there is a cure.”’
16. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Once dates were mentioned before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he said, ‘One with you is better than one with us and all which are with us are better than all that are with you.’”
17. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Hajj al from abu Sulayman al- Hammar who has said the following: “Once we were with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and Mudayrah (a certain sauce) was brought then food, then a basket of dates of several colors was brought. He (the Imam) then picked up one by one and asked, ‘What do you call it?’ and we said that we call it so and so, until he (the Imam) picked up one more and asked, ‘What do you call this?’ We replied, ‘We call it al-Mushan .’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We call it ‘Umm Jirdhan. A certain amount of it was brought to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he ate a few from it and prayed because of it; therefore, no other palm tree bears as much dates as this.’”
18. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from ibn Faddal from Tha’labah ibn Maymun from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “I once was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when fresh dates were brought. He (the Imam) began to eat, drink water and gave to me the bowl of water and I disliked to decline. Therefore, I drank until he (the Imam) did it several times. I then said, ‘I experience increased phlegm, and I complained about it before Ahran, the physician of al-Hajjaj and he asked me, “Do you have palm trees in the garden?” I replied, “Yes, there are.” He asked me to name them and I named until I mentioned al- Hirun (a certain tree) and he said, “Eat seven dates thereof when going to bed and do not drink water.” I followed his instruction and I did not have any moisture in my mouth to spit. I complained before him and he said drink a small amount of water and hold back from drinking more until your condition is balanced.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘I without water do not even mind if I did not taste it.’”
19. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Dihqan from Durust ibn abu Mansur from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one eats seven dates everyday of al-‘Ajwah of al-‘Aliyah (name of a place in al-Madinah), poison, magic and Satan do not harm him.’”
20. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ya’qub ibn from Ziyad ibn Marwan al-Qandiy from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Eating seven dates of al-‘Ajwah at bed time kill the worms in one’s belly.”’
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Ahmad ibn Sulayman from Ahmad ibn Yahya al-Tahhan from those who narrated to him who has said the following: Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Five kinds of fruit are from paradise: Pomegranates of ‘Imlisiy, apples of al-Shaysaqan, quince, grapes of al-Raziqiy and fresh dates of al-Mushan.’”
2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah ibn Ja‘far from ‘Abd ‘Abd al-’Aziz ibn Zakariya al-Lu’lu’iy from Sulayman ibn al-Mufaddal who has said the following: “I heard abu al-Jarud narrate from abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Four kinds of fruit came from paradise: There were grapes of al-Raziqiy, fresh dates of al-Mushan, pomegranates of al-Tmlisiy and apples of al-Shaysaqan.’”
3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, disliked the peeling of fruits.’”
4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from al-Husayn ibn al-Mundhir from those whom he has mentioned from Furat ibn Ahnaf who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Every fruit has poison. When you get them make them touch the water or immerse them in water, that is, wash them.’”
1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al- Rabi ‘ al-Musliy from Ma‘ruf ibn Kharrabudh from those who had seen ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, eating bread with grapes.”
2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from al-Qasim al-Zayyat from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from Musa ibn al-‘Ala’ who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When water dried up and bones of the dead bodies were unveiled, Nuh, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, became extremely unhappy and sad. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent him revelation that said, ‘This is your own act. It was you who prayed against them.’ Nuh said, ‘My Lord, I ask You to forgive me and I turn to You (for kindness).’ Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent him revelation to eat black grapes.’”
