3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once was asked, when I was present, about a man who has experienced sexual relation and perspires in his clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘I do not find anything harmful in it.’ Someone then said, ‘His perspiration is so much that he can wring it out.’ He (the narrator) said that abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then glared at the man’s face and said, ‘If you do not mind, in such case, he can use some water to wash it away.’””
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Hamzah ibn Humran who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Clothes do not cause one to become as one who has experienced sexual relation and one experiencing sexual relation does not affect his clothes.’”
5. Muhammad ibn Ahmad has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from abu ‘Usamah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about clothes in which one has experienced sexual relation and then under the open sky it becomes wet with dew. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man who urinates while he has experienced sexual relation. He then cleanses himself and his clothes touch his body while it is wet. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
1. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from ibn abu Ya‘fur who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of semen’s coming in contact with one’s clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘If you know the place of contact wash it clean; but if you do not know, wash all of it clean.’”
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar from Muyassir who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I instruct the slave-girl to wash my clothes because of semen, but she does not pay proper attention to washing and I perform Salah (prayer) in them and it (semen) is dry. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must do your Salah (prayer) again. Had you yourself washed it, you would not have been required to perform your Salah (prayer) again.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of semen that pollutes one’s clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must wash all of your clothes when you do not know exactly the polluted spot, regardless, if it is a little or large area.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If a man experiences wet dream and his clothes come in contact with semen, he must wash the polluted area. If he thinks, but is not certain and has not seen the polluted area, he must pour water on it. If he is certain that semen has come in contact with his clothes but he has not seen the polluted spot, he must wash all of his clothes; it is better.’”
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about al-Madhiy (the pre-seminal fluid) which pollutes one’s clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
6. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Aban from ‘Anbasah ibn Mus’ab who has said the following: “I heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, say, ‘Wudu’ is not necessary because of al-Madhiy (the pre-seminal fluid) nor is washing clothes which may have come in contact with it unless it is the major discharge of (semen).”’

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Husayn ibn abu al-‘Ala’ who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about urine that pollutes one’s body. He (the Imam) said, Tour water on it twice; it is water.’ I then asked about urine, which pollutes one’s clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘Wash it twice.’ I then asked him about the urine of a child that pollutes one’s clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘After pouring a small amount of water on it you must also wring it.’”
2. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ibrahim ibn abu Mahmud who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how one should deal with velvet-like carpet and the beds that come in contact with urine, which are thick and bulky. He (the Imam) said, ‘Whatever is on the surface of such items must be washed clean.’”
3. Ahmad ibn Musa has narrated from al-Qasim from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about clothes that come in contact with urine and it passes to the other side through its fillings. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must wash the polluted area, feel the other side and wash it clean, if you found something; otherwise, pour water on it to wash it clean.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim from Hakam ibn Hukaym al-Sayrafiy who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I may urinate but do not find water, my hands have come in contact with urine and I wipe it against the wall or soil. Then it perspires and I wipe my face with it or other parts of my body or my clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah who has said that it is in the book of Sama‘ah who in a marfu‘ manner has narrated the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If clothes come in contact with the urine of cats, performing Salah (prayer) with such clothes is not valid until they are washed.’”
6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the urine of a child. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must just pour water on it but if the child eats food, wash it clean, and a baby boy or baby girl are the same.’”
7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from al-Fadl ibn Ghazwan from al- Hakam ibn Hukaym who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I may go to market place and need to urinate but do not find water. I then wipe it dry, then wipe my hand against the wall or ground, and scratch with it my body afterwards. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from al-Muthanna from abu Ayyub who has said the following: “I once said to abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I enter the toilet area and there is a ring on my hand with a name of the names of Allah, most High. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, do not go there with it and do not perform sexual intercourse when you are wearing it.’” It also is narrated that when washing because of using a toilet one must remove such ring from the hand with which one is washing.
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Zurarah who has said the following: “The two Imam, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, have said, ‘It is not necessary for you to wash your clothes because of urine of the edible animals.’”
2. Hammad has narrated from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the milk of camels, sheep and cows and their urine and their meat. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must not take Wudu’ with the water which is mixed with any of such items. You do not need to wash if your clothes come in contact with such items unless it is for removing stains.’ He (the narrator) said that I then asked about the urine of animals, such as mules and donkeys. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must wash it clean but if you do not know the polluted area, wash all of the clothes, and if you have doubts then just pour water to wash it clean.’”
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Wash your clothes because of the urine of inedible animals.’”
4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Khalid from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Urwah from Bukayr ibn ’A‘yan from Zurarah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, about the urine of edible animals that pollutes clothes, expressed dislike. I said, ‘It is from an edible animal.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is true but Allah has not made it for eating.’”
5. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from abu Maryam who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘What do you say about the urine of animals and their dung?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Because of their urine you must wash and their dung is more than that.’”
6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Barqiy from Aban from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Dung of donkeys is not harmful but you must wash clean their urine.’”
7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from Malik al- Juhaniy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about things that come out of the nostrils of animals. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful.’”
8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ‘Abd Allah ibn al-Mughirah from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not proper to perform Salah (prayer) with clothes that have come in contact with the urine of cat.’”
9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Abd Allah ibn af-Mughirah from Jamil ibn Darraj from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Urine and droppings of the things that fly are not harmful.”’
10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Ali ibn al-Hakam from abu al-‘Aziz al-Nakhkhas who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘I deal with animals. Some times I go out during the night, and animals may have urinated and dunged and they spread it with their legs which pollutes my clothes; and in the morning I find the marks.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You are not required to do anything.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Mu‘awiyah ibn al-Hukaym from al-Mu‘alla’ abu ‘Uthman from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once visited abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when he was performing Salah (prayer). My guide informed me that there was blood on the clothes of the Imam. When he completed his Salah (prayer), I said that my guide has told me that there is blood on your clothes. He (the Imam) said, ‘I have pimples and I did not want to wash my clothes until they are cured.”’
2. Ahmad has narrated from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man on whose body there are sores or wounds which he cannot bandage or wash the blood. He (the Imam) said, ‘He can perform his Salah (prayer) without washing his clothes except once a day; he cannot wash his clothes every hour.’”
3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father, from Hammad, from Hariz, from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once said to him (the Imam), ‘I may find blood on my clothes when I am performing Salah (prayer).’ He (the Imam) said, ‘If you find blood and you have other clothes on you, you must remove it and complete your Salah (prayer). However, if you do not have other clothes on you besides that one, you must complete your Salah (prayer). You do not have to perform that Salah (prayer) again if the area covered by that blood is not more than the size of a dirham, and an area of smaller size does not matter, regardless if you have seen it before or not. If you have seen it before and it is bigger than the size of a dirham, but you have missed to wash it and have performed with it many Salah (prayer), you must perform again the Salah (prayers) you have performed with it.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, would not consider the blood of things that did not require slaughtering as harmful to one’s Salah (prayer). That is, the blood of fish.’”
5. Ahmad ibn Idris has narrated from Muhammad ibn Ahmad from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from Musaddiq ibn Sadaqah from ‘Ammar al-Sabatiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about a man from whose nostril blood flows. ‘Is he required to wash inside of his nostril?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He only needs to wash what is apparent.’”
6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn abu Hamzah from the virtuous servant of Allah who has said the following: “Once a mother of the child of his father asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, I like to ask you a question but I feel shy.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Ask and do not feel shy.’ She said, ‘There was blood from Hayd (menses) on my clothes and I washed it, but the stain does not go away.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Color it with russet color so that it is mixed and does not show.’”
7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that your blood to you is less unclean than other people’s blood. If you find like sprinkles of your blood on you, it is not harmful; but if it is other people’s blood, regardless of its being of a small or large quantity, you must wash it clean.’”
8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Sinan from ibn Muskan from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the blood of fleas on one’s clothes - if it is harmful to his Salah (prayer). He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful even if they are many. So also is the case with similar things, like sprinkled nostril blood which one does not have to wash.’” “It is narrated also that things cannot be washed with saliva except blood (inside one’s mouth).”’

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Rayyan who has said the following: “I once wrote to the man, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asking, ‘Is the blood of bugs like the blood of fleas? Is it permissible for one to consider blood of bugs like that of fleas, perform Salah (prayer) with it and analogize to act upon such analogy?’ He (the Imam) wrote with his signature, ‘It is permissible to perform Salah (prayer) with it, but washing is better.’”
1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz from Muhammad from whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If a dog pollutes your clothes, and if it is dry, just pour water on your clothes; but if it is wet, then wash them clean.”’
2. Hammad ibn ‘Isa has narrated from Hariz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man whose body is polluted because of a dog. He (the Imam) said, ‘He must wash clean the area which has come in contact with a dog.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-‘Amrakiy ibn Ali al-Naysaburiy from Ali ibn Ja‘far from his brother, Musa, ‘Alayhi al- Salam, has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a mouse that has fallen in water and then walks on clothes. Can one perform Salah (prayer) in such clothes? He (the Imam) said, ‘Wash to clean the marks that you find and what you do not find just pour water on them.’”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if it is permissible to touch a fox, jackal or such other beasts dead or alive. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful but he must wash his hand.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from Ibrahim ibn al-Maymun who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man whose clothes fall on a dead body. He (the Imam) said, ‘If the dead body is given Ghusl (bath), then it is not necessary to wash such clothes, but if it is not given Ghusl (bath) yet, one must wash such clothes - and that is, when the dead body has become cold.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-‘Amrakiy ibn Ali from Ali ibn Ja‘far from Musa ibn Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a man whose clothes come in contact with pigs which he forgets to wash, but he remembers it when he is performing Salah (prayer), what he must do. He (the Imam) said, ‘If he has already begun his Salah (prayer) he must continue; but if he has not yet began his Salah (prayer), he must pour water on the area which has come in contact with the pig. If there are marks on such clothes, then one must wash them clean.’”

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Afi ibn Muhammad from Sahl all from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn abu Nasr from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about Tayammum. He (the Imam) thumped his hands on the ground then raised them, and allowed loose soil to fall off them. He (the Imam) then wiped both (sections of) his forehead (the parts above both eyebrows) and (the back of) his palms (hands) only once.”
2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was once asked about Tayammum. He (the Imam) read this verse of the Holy Quran: ‘You must cut off the hands of male and female thieves.’ (5:38) He (the Imam) mentioned this verse of the Holy Quran. ‘Wash your faces and hands upto (from) your elbows’ (5:6) and said, ‘Wipe on (the back of that part of) your palms which must be cut in case of theft and your Lord is not to forget.’”
3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan from al-Kahiliy who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam) about Tayammum. He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, thumped his hand on the furnishing, then wiped with it his face and then the backs of his both hands one with the other.”
4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from ibn abu Ayyub al-Khazzaz who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about Tayammum. He (the Imam) said, “Ammar ibn Yasir once had experienced sexual relation and he rolled himself on the ground as certain animals do. The Messenger of Allah said, ‘O ‘Ammar, you rolled yourself on the ground as certain animals do.’ I (the narrator) then asked him (the Imam), ‘How is Tayammum done?’ He (the Imam) placed his hand on the sackcloth, then raised it and wiped his face, then the backs of his hands slightly.” He (the narrator) has narrated it (the previous Hadith) from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from abu Ayyub also.
5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Kufiy from al-Nawfaliy from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Wudu’ is not valid from the place you walk on.’ Al-Nawfaliy has said, ‘It means the place on which one steps.’”
6. Al-Hassan ibn Ali al-‘Alawiy has narrated from Sahl ibn Jumhur from ‘Abd al-‘Azim ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Hassaniy from al-Hassan ibn al-Husayn al-‘Uraniy from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has prohibited that a man take Tayammum with the soil of the road.’”
1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Safwan from al-‘Ala’ from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I heard him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, say, ‘If you cannot find water and you decide for Tayammum, you must wait until the time (for Salah (prayer)) is about to end. If water is still not available, you do not miss the soil and the ground.’”
