    1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيابَهُنَّ قَالَ الْخِمَارَ وَالْجِلْبَابَ قُلْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَنْ كَانَ فَقَالَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ مَنْ كَانَ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَةٍ بِزِينَةٍ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَفْعَلْ فَهُوَ خَيْرٌ لَهَا وَالزِّينَةُ الَّتِي يُبْدِينَ لَهُنَّ شَيْ‏ءٌ فِي الآيَةِ الأخْرَى.

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad ibn ‘Uthaman from af-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, read the words of Allah, . . if they leave aside their garment,’ (24: 60) and said these words refer to veil and gown.’ I then asked, ‘In front of whom can they leave their garments aside?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is in front of those before whom it is not considered a show off with beauty (see (24:31)); but if she did not leave them aside is better and the beautification which is permissible to expose is mentioned in another verse (of the book of Allah).”’ (24:31)

    2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ الْقَوَاعِدُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ قَالَ تَضَعُ الْجِلْبَابَ وَحْدَهُ.

    2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Of the rules about women one is that they can leave their garments aside and this refers to their gown only.’”

    3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ الْعَلاءِ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي قَوْلِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَالْقَواعِدُ مِنَ النِّساءِ اللاتِي لا يَرْجُونَ نِكاحاً مَا الَّذِي يَصْلُحُ لَهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ مِنْ ثِيَابِهِنَّ قَالَ الْجِلْبَابُ.

    3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from al-‘Ala’ ibn Razin from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘Of the rules for women whose marriage age has expired,’ and that what kind of their garments is proper to leave aside?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is just the gown.’”

    4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَرِيزِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيابَهُنَّ قَالَ الْجِلْبَابَ وَالْخِمَارَ إِذَا كَانَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ مُسِنَّةً.

    4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Hariz ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once read the words of Allah, ‘. . . that they can leave their garments aside’ (24:31) then said, ‘It is the gown and veil, if she is old.’”

    1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ وَأَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ مُسْكَانَ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَوِ التَّابِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُولِي الإرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجالِ إِلَى آخِرِ الآيَةِ قَالَ الأحْمَقُ الَّذِي لا يَأْتِي النِّسَاءَ.

    1. Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from and Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from Zurarah who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, . . the dependents who are not of the condition of sensing carnal desires among men. . . (24:31) He (the Imam) said, ‘ It is a reference to those who because of dimwittedness do not go near women.”’

    2- حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ أُولِي الإرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ قَالَ الأحْمَقُ الْمُوَلَّى عَلَيْهِ الَّذِي لا يَأْتِي النِّسَاءَ.

    2. Humayd ibn Ziyad from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from more than one person from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of those among men who do not have the sense of carnal desires. He (the Imam) said, ‘They are the dimwitted ones who are owned and do not go near women.’”

    3- الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الأشْعَرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ آبَائِهِ (عَلَيْهِم السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ رَجُلانِ يُسَمَّى أَحَدُهُمَا هِيتَ وَالآخَرُ مَانِعٌ فَقَالا لِرَجُلٍ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) يَسْمَعُ إِذَا افْتَتَحْتُمُ الطَّائِفَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ فَعَلَيْكَ بِابْنَةِ غَيْلانَ الثَّقَفِيَّةِ فَإِنَّهَا شُمُوعٌ بَخْلاءُ مُبَتَّلَةٌ هَيْفَاءُ شَنْبَاءُ إِذَإ؛ جَلَسَتْ تَثَنَّتْ وَإِذَا تَكَلَّمَتْ غَنَّتْ تُقْبِلُ بِأَرْبَعٍ وَتُدْبِرُ بِثَمَانٍ بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهَا مِثْلُ الْقَدَحِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لا أُرِيكُمَا مِنْ أُولِي الإرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ فَأَمَرَ بِهِمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَغُرِّبَ بِهِمَا إِلَى مَكَانٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ الْعَرَايَا وَكَانَا يَتَسَوَّقَانِ فِي كُلِّ جُمُعَةٍ.

    3. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Mu’alla’ ibn Muhammad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father all from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash’ariy from ‘Abd Allah ibn Maymun al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has narrated from his ancestors that there were two men in al- Madinah, one was called Hayt and the other was called Mani‘. They spoke to a man when the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was hearing, ‘When you enter Taef, by the will of Allah, do not miss daughter of Ghaylan al-Thaqafiy because she is a candle for the stingy, completely beautiful, slim and sweet. When she sits she places one part on the other, and when she speaks she sings. She comes forward with four (hands and legs) and goes back with eight (hands, legs, shoulder bones and hips), between her legs there is something like a bowl.’ The Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said, ‘I do not think you are of those who do not have a sense of feeling carnal desires.’ The Messenger of Allah commanded to send them in exile to a place called al-‘Araya’. They would procrastinate every Friday (in attending prayer).”’

  8. 10075Al-Kafi

    1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) لا حُرْمَةَ لِنِسَاءِ أَهْلِ الذِّمَّةِ أَنْ يُنْظَرَ إِلَى شُعُورِهِنَّ وَأَيْدِيهِنَ‏.

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘It is not unlawful for one to look at the hairs and hands of the taxpayer women.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ لا بَأْسَ بِالنَّظَرِ إِلَى رُءُوسِ أَهْلِ التِّهَامَةِ وَالأعْرَابِ وَأَهْلِ السَّوَادِ وَالْعُلُوجِ لأنَّهُمْ إِذَا نُهُوا لا يَنْتَهُونَ قَالَ وَالْمَجْنُونَةِ وَالْمَغْلُوبَةِ عَلَى عَقْلِهَا وَلا بَأْسَ بِالنَّظَرِ إِلَى شَعْرِهَا وَجَسَدِهَا مَا لَمْ يَتَعَمَّدْ ذَلِكَ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abbad ibn Suhayb who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ’It is not unlawful to look at the heads of the people of al-Tihamah and Arabs who live in black (tents) and al-‘Aluj (faithless uneducated people) because even if they are prohibited they do not listen.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘In the case of insane and those whose reason is defeated (very weak) it is not unlawful to look at their hairs and body as long as it is not an intentional look.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ أُمَّهَاتِ الأوْلادِ أَلَهَا أَنْ تَكْشِفَ رَأْسَهَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِي الرِّجَالِ قَالَ تَقَنَّعُ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il ibn Bazi’ who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the mother of children (slave-girls kept to give birth): if they can remove the covering from their heads before men. He (the Imam) said, ’She must use the veil.’”

    2- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ لَيْسَ عَلَى الأمَةِ قِنَاعٌ فِي الصَّلاةِ وَلا عَلَى الْمُدَبَّرَةِ وَلا عَلَى الْمُكَاتَبَةِ إِذَا اشْتُرِطَتْ عَلَيْهَا قِنَاعٌ فِي الصَّلاةِ وَهِيَ مَمْلُوكَةٌ حَتَّى تُؤَدِّيَ جَمِيعَ مُكَاتَبَتِهَا وَيَجْرِي عَلَيْهَا مَا يَجْرِي عَلَى الْمَمْلُوكِ فِي الْحُدُودِ كُلِّهَا.

    2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Hisham ibn Salim from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “I once heard abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘A slave-girl is not required to wear a veil for Salat (prayer) as well as one who has planned for her freedom; and the one who has already contracted even if wearing veil for Salat (prayer) is made a condition when she is owned until she pays off all that is contracted and all things applicable to slaves in penal law apply to her also.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ مُصَافَحَةِ الرَّجُلِ الْمَرْأَةَ قَالَ لا يَحِلُّ لِلرَّجُلِ أَنْ يُصَافِحَ الْمَرْأَةَ إِلا امْرَأَةً يَحْرُمُ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَهَا أُخْتٌ أَوْ بِنْتٌ أَوْ عَمَّةٌ أَوْ خَالَةٌ أَوِ ابْنَةُ أُخْتٍ أَوْ نَحْوُهَا فَأَمَّا الْمَرْأَةُ الَّتِي يَحِلُّ لَهُ أَنْ يَتَزَوَّجَهَا فَلا يُصَافِحْهَا إِلا مِنْ وَرَاءِ الثَّوْبِ وَلا يَغْمِزْ كَفَّهَا.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah ibn Mehran who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about men’s shaking hands with women. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is lawful for men to shake hands with women with whom marriage is not lawful, like sister, daughter, paternal and maternal aunts, daughter of sister or so. However, a woman with whom marriage is lawful shaking hands is unlawful, except from behind the cloth but he must not squeeze her palm.’”

    2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) هَلْ يُصَافِحُ الرَّجُلُ الْمَرْأَةَ لَيْسَتْ بِذِي مَحْرَمٍ فَقَالَ لا إِلا مِنْ وَرَاءِ الثَّوْبِ.

    2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from abu Ayyub al-Khazzaz from abu Basir who has said the following: “This is concerning my question before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if one can shake hands with women who are lawful for marriage. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not permissible except from behind the cloth.’”

    3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ مِسْكِينٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي سَعِيدَةُ وَمِنَّةُ أُخْتَا مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ بَيَّاعِ السَّابِرِيِّ قَالَتَا دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فَقُلْنَا تَعُودُ الْمَرْأَةُ أَخَاهَا قَالَ نَعَمْ قُلْنَا تُصَافِحُهُ قَالَ مِنْ وَرَاءِ الثَّوْبِ قَالَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا إِنَّ أُخْتِي هَذِهِ تَعُودُ إِخْوَتَهَا قَالَ إِذَا عُدْتِ إِخْوَتَكِ فَلا تَلْبَسِي الْمُصَبَّغَةَ.

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn Salim from certain persons of his people from al-Hakam ibn Miskin who has said that Sa‘idah and Minnah sisters of Muhammad ibn abu ‘Amid Bayya‘ al-Sabiriy narrated to me the following: “Once, we visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and asked if a woman can visit her brother. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, she can do so.’ We then asked if she can shake hands with him. He (the Imam) said, ‘It must be from behind the cloth.’ One of them said, ‘My sister, this one, visits her brothers.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘When you visit your brothers do not wear dyes.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ الْجَبَلِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ الأشَلِّ عَنِ الْمُفَضَّلِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) كَيْفَ مَاسَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) النِّسَاءَ حِينَ بَايَعَهُنَّ قَالَ دَعَا بِمِرْكَنِهِ الَّذِي كَانَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فِيهِ فَصَبَّ فِيهِ مَاءً ثُمَّ غَمَسَ يَدَهُ الْيُمْنَى فَكُلَّمَا بَايَعَ وَاحِدَةً مِنْهُنَّ قَالَ اغْمِسِي يَدَكِ فَتَغْمِسُ كَمَا غَمَسَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) فَكَانَ هَذَا مُمَاسَحَتَهُ إِيَّاهُنَّ. عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) مِثْلَهُ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Khalid from Muhammad ibn Ali from Muhammad ibn Aslam al-Jabaliy from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Salim al-Ashal from al-Mufaddal ibn ‘Umar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘How did the Messenger of Allah touch the hands of women for their pledge of allegiance? He (the Imam) said, ‘He (the Messenger of Allah) asked for a bucket in which he would make wudu. He (the Messenger of Allah) poured water in it, then immersed his right hand in water and as soon as one of them pledged allegiance he (the Messenger of Allah) asked her to immerse her hand in the water and she did so whenever he (the Messenger of Allah), O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, did and this is how he touched their hands.’” Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from certain persons of his people from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, a similar Hadith.

    2- أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ سَعْدَانَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَتَدْرِي كَيْفَ بَايَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) النِّسَاءَ قُلْتُ اللهُ أَعْلَمُ وَابْنُ رَسُولِهِ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ جَمَعَهُنَّ حَوْلَهُ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِتَوْرِ بَرَامٍ فَصَبَّ فِيهِ نَضُوحاً ثُمَّ غَمَسَ يَدَهُ فِيهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ اسْمَعْنَ يَا هَؤُلاءِ أُبَايِعُكُنَّ عَلَى أَنْ لا تُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئاً وَلا تَسْرِقْنَ وَلا تَزْنِينَ وَلا تَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلادَكُنَّ وَلا تَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَانٍ تَفْتَرِينَهُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُنَّ وَأَرْجُلِكُنَّ وَلا تَعْصِينَ بُعُولَتَكُنَّ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ أَقْرَرْتُنَّ قُلْنَ نَعَمْ فَأَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ مِنَ التَّوْرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُنَّ اغْمِسْنَ أَيْدِيَكُنَّ فَفَعَلْنَ فَكَانَتْ يَدُ رَسُولِ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) الطَّاهِرَةُ أَطْيَبَ مِنْ أَنْ يَمَسَّ بِهَا كَفَّ أُنْثَى لَيْسَتْ لَهُ بِمَحْرَمٍ.

    2. Abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Ahmad ibn Ishaq from Sa‘dan ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once asked me, ‘Do you know how the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, pledged allegiance with women?’ I replied, ‘Allah knows best and the child of His Messenger knows best.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He (the Messenger of Allah) called them to come together around him (the Messenger of Allah) and asked for a bowl. The place was Baram (near al-Baqi‘). He (the Messenger of Allah) poured water in the bowl just to moisten it and immersed his hand in it, then said, ‘Listen all of you. I pledge allegiance with you with the condition that you will not call anything as partners of Allah, you must not steal, you must not fornicate, you must not kill your children, you must not accuse falsely fabricating all by yourselves and you must not disobey your husbands in lawful matters. Do you confirm and acknowledge?’ They replied, ‘Yes, we confirm.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then moved his hand from the bowl then said to them, ‘Immerse your hands in the bowl and they also did so. The purified and holy hand of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, must not have touched female hands who were not of his relatives.’”

    3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَ الْمَعْرُوفُ أَنْ لا يَشْقُقْنَ جَيْباً وَلا يَلْطِمْنَ خَدّاً وَلا يَدْعُونَ وَيْلا وَلا يَتَخَلَّفْنَ عِنْدَ قَبْرٍ وَلا يُسَوِّدْنَ ثَوْباً وَلا يَنْشُرْنَ شَعْراً.

    3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from abu Ayyub al-Khazzaz from a man who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . that they must not disobey you in lawful matters’ (60:13) Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘lawful matters means not to tear one’s shirt, slap one’s face, crying, ‘woe is me’, must not remain behind near the grave, must not blacken clothes and must not spread hairs.’”

    4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ الْخُزَاعِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَبِي الْمِقْدَامِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ تَدْرُونَ مَا قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ قُلْتُ لا قَالَ إِنَّ 14- رَسُولَ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ لِفَاطِمَةَ (عَلَيْهِا السَّلام) إِذَا أَنَا مِتُّ فَلا تَخْمِشِي عَلَيَّ وَجْهاً وَلا تَنْشُرِي عَلَيَّ شَعْراً وَلا تُنَادِي بِالْوَيْلِ وَلا تُقِيمِي عَلَيَّ نَائِحَةً قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَذَا الْمَعْرُوفُ الَّذِي قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.

    4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Salmah ibn al-Khattab from Sulayman ibn Sama‘ah al-Khuza‘iy from Ali ibn ‘Isma’il from ‘Amr ibn abu al-Miqdam who has said the following: “I once heard abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Do you know what is the meaning of the words of Allah, ‘. . . that they must not disobey you in lawful matters?’ (60:13) I replied, ‘No, I do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once said to Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, ‘When I die, you must not cause abrasion to any face, you must not spread for me any hairs, you must not cry ‘woe is me’ and you must not call any gathering to mourn for me.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘This is the lawful matter about which Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has spoken.’”

    5- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لَمَّا فَتَحَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) مَكَّةَ بَايَعَ الرِّجَالَ ثُمَّ جَاءَ النِّسَاءُ يُبَايِعْنَهُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ إِذا جاءَكَ الْمُؤْمِناتُ يُبايِعْنَكَ عَلى‏ أَنْ لا يُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئاً وَلا يَسْرِقْنَ وَلا يَزْنِينَ وَلا يَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلادَهُنَّ وَلا يَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتانٍ يَفْتَرِينَهُ بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِنَّ وَأَرْجُلِهِنَّ وَلا يَعْصِينَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ فَبايِعْهُنَّ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُنَّ اللهَ إِنَّ اللهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ فَقَالَتْ هِنْدٌ أَمَّا الْوَلَدُ فَقَدْ رَبَّيْنَا صِغَاراً وَقَتَلْتَهُمْ كِبَاراً وَقَالَتْ أُمُّ حَكِيمٍ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ وَكَانَتْ عِنْدَ عِكْرِمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي جَهْلٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا ذَلِكَ الْمَعْرُوفُ الَّذِي أَمَرَنَا اللهُ أَنْ لا نَعْصِيَنَّكَ فِيهِ قَالَ لا تَلْطِمْنَ خَدّاً وَلا تَخْمِشْنَ وَجْهاً وَلا تَنْتِفْنَ شَعْراً وَلا تَشْقُقْنَ جَيْباً وَلا تُسَوِّدْنَ ثَوْباً وَلا تَدْعِينَ بِوَيْلٍ فَبَايَعَهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) عَلَى هَذَا فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ كَيْفَ نُبَايِعُكَ قَالَ إِنَّنِي لا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ فَدَعَا بِقَدَحٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ ثُمَّ أَخْرَجَهَا فَقَالَ أَدْخِلْنَ أَيْدِيَكُنَّ فِي هَذَا الْمَاءِ فَهِيَ الْبَيْعَةُ.

    5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn abu Nasr from Aban who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, liberated Makkah men pledged allegiance; then women came to pledge allegiance; and Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, said, ‘O Holy prophet, when believing women come to pledge allegiance with you not to call anything as partner of Allah, not to steal, not to commit fornication, not to kill their children, not to accuse falsely of their own making, must not disobey you in lawful matters, then pledge allegiance with them and ask forgiveness from Allah for them, Allah is forgiving and merciful.’ (60:13) Hind then said, ‘We brought up children from the time they were infants but you killed them when they grew up.’ ‘Umm Hakim daughter of al-Harith ibn Hisham, wife of ‘Ikramah ibn abu Jahl asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is that ‘lawful matters’ that Allah has commanded us not to disobey you? He (the Messenger of Allah) replied, ‘You must not slap any face, abrade it, pull out any hair, tear apart front part of a shirt, blacken clothes and you must not cry ‘woe is me’.’ The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, pledged allegiance with them on this and then she said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, how can we pledge allegiance to you?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘I do not place my hand in the hands of women.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked for a bowl of water and immersed his hand in it and then moved it and told them to immerse their hands in the bowl and that was pledging allegiance.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ الْجَهْمِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) أَنْ يَدْخُلَ الرِّجَالُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ إِلا بِإِذْنِهِنَّ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Harun ibn al-Jahm from Ja’far ibn ‘Umar who has said the following: “The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited men from entering the place of women without their permission.”’

    2- وَبِهَذَا الإسْنَادِ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ دَاخِلٌ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ إِلا بِإِذْنِ أَوْلِيَائِهِنَّ.

    2. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “Men must not enter the place of women without the permission of their guardian.” H 10086, Ch. 168, h 3

    3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ الرَّجُلُ إِذَا دَخَلَ عَلَى أَبِيهِ وَلا يَسْتَأْذِنُ الأبُ عَلَى الابْنِ قَالَ وَيَسْتَأْذِنُ الرَّجُلُ عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ وَأُخْتِهِ إِذَا كَانَتَا مُتَزَوِّجَتَيْنِ.

    3. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Faddal from abu Jamilah from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if a man is required to ask permission from his father. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, I would ask permission from my father and my mother was not with him. She was my father’s wife. My mother had died when I was a boy. I did not like to disturb their privacy and they also did not like it. It is very correct and fine to say Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace).”’

    4- أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) الرَّجُلُ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى أَبِيهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ كُنْتُ أَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَى أَبِي وَلَيْسَتْ أُمِّي عِنْدَهُ إِنَّمَا هِيَ امْرَأَةُ أَبِي تُوُفِّيَتْ أُمِّي وَأَنَا غُلامٌ وَقَدْ يَكُونُ مِنْ خَلْوَتِهِمَا مَا لا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَفْجَأَهُمَا عَلَيْهِ وَلا يُحِبَّانِ ذَلِكَ مِنِّي السَّلامُ أَصْوَبُ وَأَحْسَنُ.

    4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from ‘Isma’il ibn Mehran from ‘Ubayd ibn Mu‘awiyah ibn Shurayh from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from ‘Amr ibn Shamir from Jabir from abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, from Jabir ibn ‘Abd Allah al- Ansariy who has said the following: “One day the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, came out to visit Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, and I was with him (the Messenger of Allah). When I reached the door, he (the Messenger of Allah) placed his hand on it and pushed then said, ‘Al-Salamu ‘Alaykum.’ Fatimah, ‘Alayha al-Salam, responded saying, “Alaykum al- Salam, O Messenger of Allah.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, ‘Can I come in?’ She said, ‘Please come in, O Messenger of Allah.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked, ‘Can I come in with the person who is with me?’ She said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I do not have a veil on me.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said,, ‘O Fatimah, take the extra of your bed sheet and use it as veil to cover your head.’ She did accordingly and he (the Messenger of Allah) then said, ‘Al-Salamu Alaykum.’ Fatimah, responded saying, ‘ ‘Alayka al-Salam, O Messenger of Allah.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, ‘Can I come in?’ She replied, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked, ‘Can I come in with the person with me?’ She replied, ‘Yes, you may come with the person with you.’ Jabir has said that the Messenger of Allah entered and I also entered and I saw the face of Fatimah looked yellow like the belly of a locust. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, asked, ‘What has happened, O Fatimah that your face looks yellow?’ She replied, ‘O Messenger of Allah, it is hunger.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) prayed saying, £ 0 Lord, who satisfies hunger, repels the cause of loss, satisfy Fatimah daughter of Muhammad.’ Jabir has said, ‘I then saw blood flow through its course and her face turned to its normal color and thereafter she did not experience any more hunger.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ جَرَّاحٍ الْمَدَائِنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لِيَسْتَأْذِنِ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ كَمَا أَمَرَكُمُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَمَنْ بَلَغَ الْحُلُمَ فَلا يَلِجُ عَلَى أُمِّهِ وَلا عَلَى أُخْتِهِ وَلا عَلَى خَالَتِهِ وَلا عَلَى سِوَى ذَلِكَ إِلا بِإِذْنٍ فَلا تَأْذَنُوا حَتَّى يُسَلِّمَ وَالسَّلامُ طَاعَةٌ للهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَالَ وَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) لِيَسْتَأْذِنْ عَلَيْكَ خَادِمُكَ إِذَا بَلَغَ الْحُلُمَ فِي ثَلاثِ عَوْرَاتٍ إِذَا دَخَلَ فِي شَيْ‏ءٍ مِنْهُنَّ وَلَوْ كَانَ بَيْتُهُ فِي بَيْتِكَ قَالَ وَلْيَسْتَأْذِنْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْدَ الْعِشَاءِ الَّتِي تُسَمَّى الْعَتَمَةَ وَحِينَ تُصْبِحُ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُمْ مِنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ إِنَّمَا أَمَرَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِذَلِكَ لِلْخَلْوَةِ فَإِنَّهَا سَاعَةُ غِرَّةٍ وَخَلْوَةٍ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father and Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Husayn ibn Sa‘id all from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from al-Qasim ibn Sulayman from Jarrah al- Mada’iniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Your slaves and those of you who have not yet gained feeling of carnal desires must ask for your permission three times as Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has commanded. Those who have gained feeling of carnal desire must not enter the place of his mother, sister and maternal aunt or others without permission and you must not give permission unless he offers you Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) in obedience to Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’ He (the narrator) has said that abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘Your servants who have gained feeling of carnal desires must ask you for permission during three times of privacy if they come to you in such times even if their home is the same as your home.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They must ask you for permission after al-‘Isha’ called al-‘Atmah, in the morning and at noontime when you undress. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has commanded as such because of privacy and at these times one is unaware and in retreat.’”

    2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمانُكُمْ قَالَ هِيَ خَاصَّةٌ فِي الرِّجَالِ دُونَ النِّسَاءِ قُلْتُ فَالنِّسَاءُ يَسْتَأْذِنَّ فِي هَذِهِ الثَّلاثِ سَاعَاتٍ قَالَ لا وَ لَكِنْ يَدْخُلْنَ وَيَخْرُجْنَ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ قَالَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِكُمْ قَالَ عَلَيْكُمُ اسْتِئْذَانٌ كَاسْتِئْذَانِ مَنْ قَدْ بَلَغَ فِي هَذِهِ الثَّلاثِ سَاعَاتٍ.

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu Jamilah from Muhammad al-Halabiy from Zurarah who has said the following: “This is about the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘. . . those whom your right hands possess’ (24:58) abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is just for men and not for women.’ I then asked, ‘Is it then necessary for women to ask permission in such hours?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, they can come and go.’ About, ‘. . . those who have not gained feeling of carnal desire,’ (24:58) he (the Imam) said, ‘It is a reference to yourselves (free people).’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must ask for permission, like those who have become mature, during the three hours.’”

    3- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ مِنْ قَبْلِ صَلاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُمْ مِنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنْ بَعْدِ صَلاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ثَلاثُ عَوْرَاتٍ لَكُمْ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلا عَلَيْهِمْ جُنَاحٌ بَعْدَهُنَّ طَوَّافُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَمَنْ بَلَغَ الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ فَلا يَلِجُ عَلَى أُمِّهِ وَلا عَلَى أُخْتِهِ وَلا عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ وَلا عَلَى مَنْ سِوَى ذَلِكَ إِلا بِإِذْنٍ وَلا يَأْذَنْ لأحَدٍ حَتَّى يُسَلِّمَ فَإِنَّ السَّلامَ طَاعَةُ الرَّحْمَنِ.

    3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah all from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yusuf ibn ‘Aqil from Muhammad ibn Qays who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Those whom your right hands possess and who have not gained feeling of carnal desires must ask permission from you three times: before the morning Salat (prayer), at noontime when you undress and after Salat (prayer) of al-‘Isha’ which are three times of privacy and thereafter it is not unlawful for you and for them to come and go and move around each other. Those of you who have gained feeling of carnal desire must not enter in the place of your mother, sister, daughter and others without permission and you must not give permission unless he offers you Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) because it is obedience to the Beneficent.’”

    4- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) فِي قَوْلِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ قِيلَ مَنْ هُمْ فَقَالَ هُمُ الْمَمْلُوكُونَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ وَالصِّبْيَانُ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا يَسْتَأْذِنُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ عِنْدَ هَذِهِ الثَّلاثِ الْعَوْرَاتِ مِنْ بَعْدِ صَلاةِ الْعِشَاءِ وَهِيَ الْعَتَمَةُ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُمْ مِنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنْ قَبْلِ صَلاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَيَدْخُلُ مَمْلُوكُكُمْ [وَغِلْمَانُكُمْ] مِنْ بَعْدِ هَذِهِ الثَّلاثِ عَوْرَاتٍ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنٍ إِنْ شَاءُوا.

    4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Khalaf ibn Hammad from Rib’iy ibn ‘Abd Allah from al-Fudayl ibn Yasar who has said the following: “About the words of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, ‘O believers, those whom your right hands possess and those who have not yet gained feeling of carnal desire must ask permission from you three times’, (24:58) abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam; and in answer to a question about who such people are has said, ‘They are male and female slaves and the children who are not yet mature. They must ask permission from you during the three hours of privacy; after Salat (prayer) of al-‘Isha’ which is al-‘Atmah, when you undress at noon time and before the morning Salat (prayer). After the three privacy times, your slaves and children can come and go without permission if they wanted.’”

    1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ وَأَحْمَدَ ابْنَيْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنِ الْمَمْلُوكِ يَرَى شَعْرَ مَوْلاتِهِ قَالَ لا بَأْسَ.

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Abd Allah and Ahmad sons of Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a slave’s looking at the hairs of the mistress. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”

    2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي الْبِلادِ وَيَحْيَى بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) نَحْواً مِنْ ثَلاثِينَ رَجُلا إِذْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَبِي فَرَحَّبَ بِهِ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) وَأَجْلَسَهُ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ طَوِيلا ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) إِنَّ لأبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ حَاجَةً فَلَوْ خَفَّفْتُمْ فَقُمْنَا جَمِيعاً فَقَالَ لِي أَبِي ارْجِعْ يَا مُعَاوِيَةُ فَرَجَعْتُ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) هَذَا ابْنُكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَهُوَ يَزْعُمُ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ يَصْنَعُونَ شَيْئاً لا يَحِلُّ لَهُمْ قَالَ وَمَا هُوَ قُلْتُ إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ الْقُرَشِيَّةَ وَالْهَاشِمِيَّةَ تَرْكَبُ وَتَضَعُ يَدَهَا عَلَى رَأْسِ الأسْوَدِ وَذِرَاعَيْهَا عَلَى عُنُقِهِ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَا بُنَيَّ أَمَا تَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ اقْرَأْ هَذِهِ الآيَةَ لا جُناحَ عَلَيْهِنَّ فِي آبائِهِنَّ وَلا أَبْنائِهِنَّ حَتَّى بَلَغَ وَلا ما مَلَكَتْ أَيْمانُهُنَّ ثُمَّ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ لا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَرَى الْمَمْلُوكُ الشَّعْرَ وَالسَّاقَ.

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il from Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad and Yahya ibn Ibrahim from his father Ibrahim from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “Once we, about thirty people, were with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when my father came and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, welcomed him, gave him a place just next to himself and turned to him (for speaking) for a long time. Then abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘Abu Mu‘awiyah needs privacy, if you please provide us relief.’ We all got up and my father said to me, ‘O Mu‘awiyah, come back.’ I turned back and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asked, ‘Is this your son?’ He replied, ‘Yes, and he thinks that people of al-Madinah do something unlawful.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘What is it?’ I then said, ‘The woman of Quraysh or of Banu Hashim when riding, places her hand on the head of the black (slave) and her arms on his neck.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘Son, have you not read al-Quran?’ I replied, ‘Yes, I read it.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Read this verse, ‘. . . it is not unlawful for them about their fathers, sons, and whomever their right hands possess.’ (33:55) He (the Imam) then said, ‘It is not unlawful if a slave looks at one’s hairs and legs (below the knees).”’

    3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لأبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) الْمَمْلُوكُ يَرَى شَعْرَ مَوْلاتِهِ وَسَاقَهَا قَالَ لا بَأْسَ.

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father and Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Mu‘awiyah ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a slave’s looking at the hairs and leg of his mistress. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not unlawful.’”

    4- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ وَيُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لا يَحِلُّ لِلْمَرْأَةِ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ عَبْدُهَا إِلَى شَيْ‏ءٍ مِنْ جَسَدِهَا إِلا إِلَى شَعْرِهَا غَيْرَ مُتَعَمِّدٍ لِذَلِكَ وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ أُخْرَى لا بَأْسَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَى شَعْرِهَا إِذَا كَانَ مَأْمُوناً.

    4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Yunus ibn ‘Ammar and Yunus ibn Ya’qub all of them have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not lawful for a slave to look at any part of the body of his mistress except her hairs unintentionally.’” In another Hadith it is said that it is not unlawful to look at her hairs if it is safe (from sinful feelings).

    1- حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَبَلَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ النَّخَعِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ أُمِّ الْوَلَدِ هَلْ يَصْلُحُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا خَصِيُّ مَوْلاهَا وَهِيَ تَغْتَسِلُ قَالَ لا يَحِلُّ ذَلِكَ.

    1. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jabalah from ‘Abd al-Malik ibn ‘Utbah from al- Nakha’iy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a castrated slave; if he can look at his mistress when she takes a bath. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not lawful.

    2- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قُلْتُ يَكُونُ لِلرَّجُلِ الْخَصِيُّ يَدْخُلُ عَلَى نِسَائِهِ فَيُنَاوِلُهُنَّ الْوَضُوءَ فَيَرَى شُعُورَهُنَّ قَالَ لا.

    2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn Ishaq who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who has a castrated slave; if he can go to his women and provide them water for wudu and look at their hairs. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, he can do so.”’

    3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنْ قِنَاعِ الْحَرَائِرِ مِنَ الْخِصْيَانِ فَقَالَ كَانُوا يَدْخُلُونَ عَلَى بَنَاتِ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) وَلا يَتَقَنَّعْنَ قُلْتُ فَكَانُوا أَحْرَاراً قَالَ لا قُلْتُ فَالأحْرَارُ يُتَقَنَّعُ مِنْهُمْ قَالَ لا.

    3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il ibn Bazi’ who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the veil of the free women before castrated ones. He (the Imam) said, ‘They would go in the presence of the daughters of abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and they would not use veils.’ I then asked if they were free. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, they were not free.’ I then asked, ‘Is veil necessary the free ones before them (castrated) ones?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is not so.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ لا يَصْلُحُ لِلْجَارِيَةِ إِذَا حَاضَتْ إِلا أَنْ تَخْتَمِرَ إِلا أَنْ لا تَجِدَهُ.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from all from ibn abu Najran from ‘Asem ibn Hamid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is not proper for a girl who experiences Hayd (menses) not to use a veil except if she does not experience it.’”

    2- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ شَاذَانَ وَأَبُو عَلِيٍّ الأشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنِ الْجَارِيَةِ الَّتِي لَمْ تُدْرِكْ مَتَى يَنْبَغِي لَهَا أَنْ تُغَطِّيَ رَأْسَهَا مِمَّنْ لَيْسَ بَيْنَهَا وَبَيْنَهُ مَحْرَمٌ وَمَتَى يَجِبُ عَلَيْهَا أَنْ تُقَنِّعَ رَأْسَهَا لِلصَّلاةِ قَالَ لا تُغَطِّي رَأْسَهَا حَتَّى تَحْرُمَ عَلَيْهَا الصَّلاةُ.

    2. Muhammad ibn ‘Isma’il has narrated from al-Fadl ibn Shadhan from and abu Ali al-Ash’ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan ibn Yahya from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Hajjaj who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ibrahim, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a girl who has not gained feeling of carnal desire, when must she use a veil to cover her head from non-relatives and when is it necessary to cover her head for Salat (prayer)? He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not necessary for her to cover her head until Salat (prayer) becomes obligatory on her.’”

    1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْكَاهِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ الْكَاهِلِيِّ وَأَظُنُّنِي قَدْ حَضَرْتُهُ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ جُوَيْرِيَةٍ لَيْسَ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهَا مَحْرَمٌ تَغْشَانِي فَأَحْمِلُهَا فَأُقَبِّلُهَا فَقَالَ إِذَا أَتَى عَلَيْهَا سِتُّ سِنِينَ فَلا تَضَعْهَا عَلَى حَجْرِكَ.

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘Abd Allah ibn Yahya al-Kahiliy from abu Ahmad al-Kahiliy -I think I met him who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a girl who is not a relative to me who holds me and I carry her and kiss her. He (the Imam) said, ‘When she becomes six years old then you must not place her in your lap.’”

    2- حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ الْجَارِيَةُ الْحُرَّةُ سِتَّ سِنِينَ فَلا يَنْبَغِي لَكَ أَنْ تُقَبِّلَهَا.

    2. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from more than one person from Aban ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Yahya from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When a free girl becomes six years old then it is not proper for you to kiss her.’”

    3- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ رِجَالِهِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّ بَعْضَ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ دَعَاهُ مَعَ جَمَاعَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهِ فَأَتَى بِصَبِيَّةٍ لَهُ فَأَدْنَاهَا أَهْلُ الْمَجْلِسِ جَمِيعاً إِلَيْهِمْ فَلَمَّا دَنَتْ مِنْهُ سَأَلَ عَنْ سِنِّهَا فَقِيلَ خَمْسٌ فَنَحَّاهَا عَنْهُ.

    3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Harun ibn Muslim from certain persons of his narrators who have said the following: “A certain person of banu Hashim once invited abu al-Hassan, al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, along with a group of his people and a girl was brought in the gathering. People called her one by one and when she was brought near him (the Imam) he asked, ‘How old is she ? 5 It was said that she was five years old. He (the Imam) then asked her to stand back.”

    1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سُئِلَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) عَنِ الصَّبِيِّ يَحْجُمُ الْمَرْأَةَ قَالَ إِنْ كَانَ يُحْسِنُ يَصِفُ فَلا.

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin was asked if a child can perform cupping on a woman. ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘If he is good in cupping and describing then it is not unlawful.’”

    2- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) وَعِنْدَهُ عَائِشَةُ وَحَفْصَةُ فَقَالَ لَهُمَا قُومَا فَادْخُلا الْبَيْتَ فَقَالَتَا إِنَّهُ أَعْمَى فَقَالَ إِنْ لَمْ يَرَكُمَا فَإِنَّكُمَا تَرَيَانِهِ.

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Once ibn ‘Umm Maktum asked permission from the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, when ‘Ai’shah and Hafsah were with him. He (the Messenger of Allah) asked them to go to the room and they said, ‘He is blind.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘If he cannot see you, you two can see him.’”

    1- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ الْمُسْلِمَةِ يُصِيبُهَا الْبَلاءُ فِي جَسَدِهَا إِمَّا كَسْرٌ أَوْ جِرَاحٌ فِي مَكَانٍ لا يَصْلُحُ النَّظَرُ إِلَيْهِ وَيَكُونُ الرِّجَالُ أَرْفَقَ بِعِلاجِهِ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ أَيَصْلُحُ لَهُ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا قَالَ إِذَا اضْطُرَّتْ إِلَيْهِ فَيُعَالِجُهَا إِنْ شَاءَتْ.

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from abu Hamzah al-Thumaliy who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a Muslim woman who is afflicted with a misfortune in her body, like a broken part or wound in a place to which looking is not proper and men are more gentle to treat it than women: if he can look at it. He (the Imam) said, ‘In an emergency he can treat her if she wants.”’

    1- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ [عَنْ أَبِيهِ] عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) لا تَبْدَءُوا النِّسَاءَ بِالسَّلامِ وَلا تَدْعُوهُنَّ إِلَى الطَّعَامِ فَإِنَّ النَّبِيَّ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) قَالَ النِّسَاءُ عَيٌّ وَعَوْرَةٌ فَاسْتُرُوا عِيَّهُنَّ بِالسُّكُوتِ وَاسْتُرُوا عَوْرَاتِهِنَّ بِالْبُيُوتِ.

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’You must not initiate Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to women and you must not invite them for food; the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Women are tiredness (weakness in communication) and a matter of private nature thus, you must cover their tiredness with quietness and the privacy of their nature with homes.’””

    2- مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) أَنَّهُ قَالَ لا تُسَلِّمْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ.

    2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ’Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You (men) must not offer Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to a woman.’”

    3- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَيَرْدُدْنَ عَلَيْهِ وَكَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يُسَلِّمُ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ وَكَانَ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يُسَلِّمَ عَلَى الشَّابَّةِ مِنْهُنَّ وَيَقُولُ أَتَخَوَّفُ أَنْ يُعْجِبَنِي صَوْتُهَا فَيَدْخُلَ عَلَيَّ أَكْثَرُ مِمَّا طَلَبْتُ مِنَ الأجْرِ.

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Rib’iy ibn ‘Abd Allah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, would offer Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to women and they would respond in return and ’Amir al- Mu’minin would offer Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to women but disliked to offer Salam (the phrase of offering greeting of peace) to the young ones, saying, ’I am afraid their voice may attract me and make me feel negatively more than the reward I am seeking.’”

    4- عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) النِّسَاءُ عَيٌّ وَعَوْرَةٌ فَاسْتُرُوا الْعَوْرَاتِ بِالْبُيُوتِ وَاسْتُرُوا الْعِيَّ بِالسُّكُوتِ.

    4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Women are tiredness (weakness in communication) and a matter of private nature thus, you must cover the privacy of their nature with homes and their tiredness with quietness.’”

    1- عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى غَيُورٌ يُحِبُّ كُلَّ غَيُورٍ وَلِغَيْرَتِهِ حَرَّمَ الْفَوَاحِشَ ظَاهِرَهَا وَبَاطِنَهَا.

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah, most High, is Vigilant (protective of His cause) and He loves every vigilant one and due to His vigilance He has made both apparent and hidden indecency unlawful. ’”

    2- عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيِّ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) يَقُولُ إِذَا لَمْ يَغَرِ الرَّجُلُ فَهُوَ مَنْكُوسُ الْقَلْبِ.

    2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from al-Qasim ibn Muhammad al-Jawhariy from Habib al- Khath’amiy from ‘Abd Allah ibn abu Ya’fur who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘One who is not vigilant and protective, his heart is upside down.’”

    3- عَنْهُ وَمُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ إِذَا أُغِيرَ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَهْلِهِ أَوْ بَعْضِ مَنَاكِحِهِ مِنْ مَمْلُوكِهِ فَلَمْ يَغَرْ وَلَمْ يُغَيِّرْ بَعَثَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَيْهِ طَائِراً يُقَالُ لَهُ الْقَفَنْدَرُ حَتَّى يَسْقُطَ عَلَى عَارِضَةِ بَابِهِ ثُمَّ يُمْهِلَهُ أَرْبَعِينَ يَوْماً ثُمَّ يَهْتِفَ بِهِ إِنَّ اللهَ غَيُورٌ يُحِبُّ كُلَّ غَيُورٍ فَإِنْ هُوَ غَارَ وَغَيَّرَ وَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ فَأَنْكَرَهُ وَإِلا طَارَ حَتَّى يَسْقُطَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ فَيَخْفِقَ بِجَنَاحَيْهِ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهِ ثُمَّ يَطِيرَ عَنْهُ فَيَنْزِعُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مِنْهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ رُوحَ الإيمَانِ وَتُسَمِّيهِ الْمَلائِكَةُ الدَّيُّوثَ.

    3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa all from ibn Mahbub from Ishaq ibn Jarir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘When a man’s vigilance is shaken in matters of protection for his family and wife or those married to him, like his slave-girl, but does not act vigilantly, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sends a bird called al-Qafandar which sits on the upper portion of his door and gives him forty days and calls him saying, ‘Allah is vigilant and loves vigilant people.’ If he then acts vigilantly, changes and dislikes what has shaken his sense of protectionism, otherwise, the bird flies, sits on his head and hangs its wings on his eyes; then Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, removes the spirit of belief and faith from him and the angels call him a pimp.’”

    4- ابْنُ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ غَيْرِ وَاحِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ (صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِه) كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ (عَلَيْهِ السَّلام) غَيُوراً وَأَنَا أَغْيَرُ مِنْهُ وَجَدَعَ اللهُ أَنْفَ مَنْ لا يَغَارُ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ.

    4. Ibn Mahbub has narrated from more than one person who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Ibrahim, ‘Alayhi al-Salam was vigilant and protective and I am more vigilant and protective than he was. Allah cuts-off the noses of those who do not exercise vigilance in favor of the believing and Muslims.’”
