    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ نُوحِ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا أَكَلَ السَّمَكَ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَ أَبْدِلْنَا بِهِ خَيْراً مِنْهُ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Nuh ibn Shu’ayb from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, when eating fish would say, ’O Lord, make it a blessing for us and change it for us with what is better.’”

  2. 11519Al-Kafi

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْهَمَذَانِيِّ عَنْ مُعَتِّبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَوْ قَالَ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ يَوْماً يَا مُعَتِّبُ اطْلُبْ لَنَا حِيتَاناً طَرِيَّةً فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَحْتَجِمَ فَطَلَبْتُهَا ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَقَالَ لِي يَا مُعَتِّبُ سَكْبِجْ لَنَا شَطْرَهَا وَ اشْوِ لَنَا شَطْرَهَا فَتَغَدَّى مِنْهَا وَ تَعَشَّى أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) .

    3. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy from Mu‘attib who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, or abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, once said, ‘O Mu‘attib, order for us fresh fish; I want to apply cupping.’ I ordered fish and brought them. He (the Imam) said to me to cook for him (the Imam) a part of it and roast another part. He (the Imam) had lunch with it and abu al-Hassan had dinner with it.’” Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from (his father) and Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar from his father and Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah all from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy has narrated a similar Hadith.”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعاً عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْهَمَذَانِيِّ مِثْلَهُ .عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسَّمَكِ فَإِنَّكَ إِنْ أَكَلْتَهُ بِغَيْرِ خُبْزٍ أَجْزَأَكَ وَ إِنْ أَكَلْتَهُ بِخُبْزٍ أَمْرَأَكَ .

    4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘You must eat fish; if you eat it without bread it is sufficient; and if you eat with bread it becomes more palatable for you.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ هَارُونَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْعَدَةَ بْنِ صَدَقَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ الْيَسَعِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) لَا تُدْمِنُوا أَكْلَ السَّمَكِ فَإِنَّهُ يُذِيبُ الْجَسَدَ .

    5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Harun ibn Muslim from Mas’adah ibn Sadaqah from ibn al-Yasa‘ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Do not eat fish very often; it melts the body.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَكْلُ الْحِيتَانِ يُذِيبُ الْجِسْمَ .

    6. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yunus from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Eating fish melts the body.’”

    سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ السَّمَكُ الطَّرِيُّ يُذِيبُ الْجَسَدَ .

    7. Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Hassan from Musa ibn Bakr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Eating fresh fish melts the body.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى رَفَعَهُ قَالَ السَّمَكُ الطَّرِيُّ يُذِيبُ شَحْمَ الْعَيْنِ .

    8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Fresh fish melts the fat of the eye.’”

    سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ السَّمَكُ الطَّرِيُّ يُذِيبُ شَحْمَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ .

    9. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Ali ibn Hassan from Musa ibn Bakr who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Fresh fish melts the fat of the eyes.’”

  9. 11526Al-Kafi

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ كَتَبَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا إِلَى أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَشْكُو إِلَيْهِ دَماً وَ صَفْرَاءَ فَقَالَ إِذَا احْتَجَمْتُ هَاجَتِ الصَّفْرَاءُ وَ إِذَا أَخَّرْتُ الْحِجَامَةَ أَضَرَّنِي الدَّمُ فَمَا تَرَى فِي ذَلِكَ فَكَتَبَ ( عليه السلام ) احْتَجِمْ وَ كُلْ عَلَى أَثَرِ الْحِجَامَةِ سَمَكاً طَرِيّاً كَبَاباًقَالَ فَأَعَدْتُ عَلَيْهِ الْمَسْأَلَةَ بِعَيْنِهَا فَكَتَبَ ( عليه السلام ) احْتَجِمْ وَ كُلْ عَلَى أَثَرِ الْحِجَامَةِ سَمَكاً طَرِيّاً كَبَاباً بِمَاءٍ وَ مِلْحٍ قَالَ فَاسْتَعْمَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَكُنْتُ فِي عَافِيَةٍ وَ صَارَ غِذَايَ .

    10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated the following: “Certain persons of our people once wrote to abu Muhammad, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, complaining about blood and yellowness, saying, ‘If I apply cupping, yellowness stirs up, when I delay it blood harms me, so what would you advise me in such case?’ He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, wrote, ‘Apply cupping and after cupping eat fresh fish as kabab.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I repeated exactly the same question to him (the Imam). He (the Imam) wrote, ‘Apply cupping and after cupping eat fresh fish as kabab with water and salt.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I followed the instruction and I lived in good health and it became my food.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ مُرَازِمٍ قَالَ ذَكَرَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الْبَيْضَ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ خَفِيفٌ يَذْهَبُ بِقَرَمِ اللَّحْمِ .قَالَ وَ رَوَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ بَزِيعٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ مُرَازِمٍ أَنَّهُ زَادَ فِيهِ وَ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ غَائِلَةُ اللَّحْمِ .

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad Hakim from Yunus from Murazim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once mentioned eggs and said, ‘It is light and it reduces the desire for meat.’ “He (the narrator) has said, ‘Muhammad ibn Tsma‘il ibn Bazi‘ has narrated from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad ibn Hakim from Murazim with an addition of, ‘it does not have the harmfulness of meat.”

    أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ النَّضْرِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي حَسْنَةَ الْجَمَّالِ قَالَ شَكَوْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قِلَّةَ الْوَلَدِ فَقَالَ لِي اسْتَغْفِرِ اللَّهَ وَ كُلِ الْبَيْضَ بِالْبَصَلِ .

    2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn Salim from Ahmad ibn al-Nadr from ‘Umar ibn abu Hasnah al-Jammal who has said the following: “I once complained before abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about not having any children. He (the Imam) said, ‘Ask forgiveness from Allah and eat eggs with onion.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ شَكَا نَبِيٌّ مِنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) إِلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ قِلَّةَ النَّسْلِ فَقَالَ كُلِ اللَّحْمَ بِالْبَيْضِ .

    3. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Ubayd Allah ibn ‘Abd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘One of the prophets complained before Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, about not having any children. He (Allah) told him to eat meat with egg.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ بَكْرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَثْرَةُ أَكْلِ الْبَيْضِ تَزِيدُ فِي الْوَلَدِ .

    4. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Hassan from Musa ibn Bakr who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Eating egg often increases the number of one’s children.’”

  14. 11531Al-Kafi

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ وَ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مُخُّ الْبَيْضِ خَفِيفٌ وَ الْبَيَاضُ ثَقِيلٌ .

    5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from his father from his grandfather and Qays ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The egg yoke is light and its white is heavy.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ الدَّجَاجَةَ تَكُونُ فِي الْمَنْزِلِ وَ لَيْسَ مَعَهَا دِيكٌ تَعْتَلِفُ مِنَ الْكُنَاسَةِ وَ غَيْرِهَا وَ تَبِيضُ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَرْكَبَهَا الدِّيكُ فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي أَكْلِ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْضِ فَقَالَ لِي إِنَّ الْبَيْضَ إِذَا كَانَ مِمَّا يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهُ فَلَا بَأْسَ بِهِ وَ بِأَكْلِهِ وَ هُوَ حَلَالٌ.

    6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn Musa from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid from ibn Faddal from certain persons of our people from ibn abu Ya‘fur who has said the following: “I once said to abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, that a domestic hen without a roster feeds on dump site and so on and gives eggs without mating with a rooster. ‘What do you say about such an egg and if such egg is edible? He (the Imam) said to me, ‘If such egg is from an edible bird it is not unlawful and eating it is permissible.’”

    أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الشَّاةِ وَ الْبَقَرَةِ رُبَّمَا دَرَّتِ اللَّبَنَ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَضْرِبَهَا الْفَحْلُ وَ الدَّجَاجَةُ رُبَّمَا بَاضَتْ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ يَرْكَبَهَا الدِّيكُ قَالَ فَقَالَ ( عليه السلام ) كُلُّ هَذَا حَلَالٌ طَيِّبٌ لَكَ كُلُّ شَيْ‏ءٍ يُؤْكَلُ لَحْمُهُ فَجَمِيعُ مَا كَانَ مِنْهُ مِنْ لَبَنٍ أَوْ بَيْضٍ أَوْ إِنْفَحَةٍ فَكُلُّ هَذَا حَلَالٌ طَيِّبٌ وَ رُبَّمَا يَكُونُ هَذَا قَدْ ضَرَبَهُ الْفَحْلُ وَ يُبْطِئُ وَ كُلُّ هَذَا حَلَالٌ .

    7. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from certain persons of our people from ibn abu Najran from Dawud ibn Farqad who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about sheep and cows from which I may draw milk without their mating and the eggs of a hen without mating with a rooster . He (the Imam) said, ‘All of such things are lawful and fine for you if they are from edible animals. Milk, eggs, rennet all of such things are lawful and fine. Mating with a male may have taken place but is delayed and all of such things are lawful.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لِأَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَا عَلِيُّ افْتَتِحْ بِالْمِلْحِ فِي طَعَامِكَ وَ اخْتِمْ بِالْمِلْحِ فَإِنَّهُ مَنِ افْتَتَحَ طَعَامَهُ بِالْمِلْحِ وَ خَتَمَهُ بِالْمِلْحِ دَفَعَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ سَبْعِينَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ أَيْسَرُهَا الْجُذَامُ .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said to ’Amir al- Mu’minin, ‘O Ali, begin taking food with salt and end it with salt. It dispels seventy kinds of troubles of which the least serious is leprosy.”’

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لِعَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) يَا عَلِيُّ افْتَتِحْ طَعَامَكَ بِالْمِلْحِ وَ اخْتِمْ بِالْمِلْحِ فَإِنَّ مَنِ افْتَتَحَ طَعَامَهُ بِالْمِلْحِ وَ خَتَمَ بِالْمِلْحِ عُوفِيَ مِنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَ سَبْعِينَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْبَلَاءِ مِنْهُ الْجُذَامُ وَ الْجُنُونُ وَ الْبَرَصُ .

    2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Um ay r from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, said to ’Amir al- Mu’minin, ‘O Ali, begin taking your food with salt and end it with salt. One who begins taking his food with salt and ends it with salt remains safe from seventy-two kinds of troubles of which is leprosy, insanity and albinism.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مَرَّارٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ سَعْدٍ الْإِسْكَافِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ فِي الْمِلْحِ شِفَاءً مِنْ سَبْعِينَ دَاءً أَوْ قَالَ سَبْعِينَ نَوْعاً مِنْ أَنْوَاعِ الْأَوْجَاعِ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْمِلْحِ مَا تَدَاوَوْا إِلَّا بِهِ .

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ’Isma‘il ibn Marrar from Yunus from a man from Sa‘d al-Iskaf who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘In salt there is cure for seventy kinds of pains.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘Had people known that which is in salt they would not seek treatment for an illness with anything other than salt.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) ابْدَءُوا بِالْمِلْحِ فِي أَوَّلِ طَعَامِكُمْ فَلَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْمِلْحِ لَاخْتَارُوهُ عَلَى الدِّرْيَاقِ الْمُجَرَّبِ .

    4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘You must begin your food with salt. Had people known that which is in salt they would choose it before using the experimented antidote.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنِ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا يُخْصِبُ خِوَانٌ لَا مِلْحَ عَلَيْهَا وَ أَصَحُّ لِلْبَدَنِ أَنْ يُبْدَأَ بِهِ فِي أَوَّلِ الطَّعَامِ .

    5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Bakr ibn Salih from al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A table-spread with food in it has no blessings without salt. For good health of the body one must begin his food with salt.’”

    حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ الْمِيثَمِيِّ عَنْ سُكَيْنِ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ فُضَيْلٍ الرَّسَّانِ عَنْ فَرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ أَوْحَى اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ إِلَى مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ ( عليه السلام ) أَنْ مُرْ قَوْمَكَ يَفْتَتِحُوا بِالْمِلْحِ وَ يَخْتَتِمُوا بِهِ وَ إِلَّا فَلَا يَلُومُوا إِلَّا أَنْفُسَهُمْ .

    6. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from Ahmad ibn al-Hassan al-Mithamiy from Sukayn ibn ‘Ammar from Fudayl al-Rassan from Farwah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, sent revelation to Moses son of ‘Imran, ‘Alayhi al-Salam to command his people to begin their food with salt and end it with salt, otherwise, they must not blame anyone other than their ownselves.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْمُودٍ قَالَ قَالَ لَنَا الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) أَيُّ الْإِدَامِ أَحْرَى فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا اللَّحْمُ وَ قَالَ بَعْضُنَا الزَّيْتُ وَ قَالَ بَعْضُنَا اللَّبَنُ فَقَالَ هُوَ ( عليه السلام ) لَا بَلِ الْمِلْحُ وَ لَقَدْ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى نُزْهَةٍ لَنَا وَ نَسِيَ بَعْضُ الْغِلْمَانِ الْمِلْحَ فَذَبَحُوا لَنَا شَاةً مِنْ أَسْمَنِ مَا يَكُونُ فَمَا انْتَفَعْنَا بِشَيْ‏ءٍ حَتَّى انْصَرَفْنَا .

    7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ibrahim ibn abu Mahmud who has said the following: “Al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once asked us, ‘Which food is of greater preference?’ Certain ones among us said that it is meat, others said that it is oil, yet others said it is milk. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is salt.’ We then went outside for freshness and a certain one of servants forgot salt. They slaughtered a sheep for us which was the most fat one and we could not benefit thereof anything until we returned back.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَنْ ذَرَّ عَلَى أَوَّلِ لُقْمَةٍ مِنْ طَعَامِهِ الْمِلْحَ ذَهَبَ عَنْهُ بِنَمَشِ الْوَجْهِ .

    8. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Ya’qub ibn Yazid in a marfu’ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one spreads salt on the first morsel of his food, blemish of skin goes away from his face.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْخَزَّازِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ إِنَّ الْعَقْرَبَ لَسَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فَقَالَ لَعَنَكِ اللَّهُ فَمَا تُبَالِينَ مُؤْمِناً آذَيْتِ أَمْ كَافِراً ثُمَّ دَعَا بِالْمِلْحِ فَدَلَكَهُ فَهَدَتْثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْمِلْحِ مَا بَغَوْا مَعَهُ دِرْيَاقاً .

    9. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from abu Ayyub al-Khazzaz from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once scorpion bit the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and he (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘May Allah condemn you. You do not distinguish between a believer and unbeliever and do not know whom you can hurt’. He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked for salt and rubbed it on the bitten place and it calmed down. Abu Ja’far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘Had people known that which is in salt they would not seek another antidote.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَ عَمْرِو بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ جَمِيعاً عَنْ خَلَفِ بْنِ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَدَغَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَقْرَبٌ فَنَفَضَهَا وَ قَالَ لَعَنَكِ اللَّهُ فَمَا يَسْلَمُ مِنْكِ مُؤْمِنٌ وَ لَا كَافِرٌ ثُمَّ دَعَا بِالْمِلْحِ فَوَضَعَهُ عَلَى مَوْضِعِ اللَّدْغَةِ ثُمَّ عَصَرَهُ بِإِبْهَامِهِ حَتَّى ذَابَ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْ يَعْلَمُ النَّاسُ مَا فِي الْمِلْحِ مَا احْتَاجُوا مَعَهُ إِلَى دِرْيَاقٍ .

    10. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father and ‘Amr ibn Ibrahim all from Khalaf ibn Hammad from Ya’qub ibn Shu’ayb who has said the following: “Once, scorpion bit the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. He (the Messenger of Allah) then threw it away, saying, ‘May Allah condemn you, both believers and unbelievers are not safe from you.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) then asked for salt, placed it on the bitten place and squeezed it with his thumb until it melted and then said, ‘Had people known that which is in salt, they would not need to seek any other antidote.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ نَجِيحٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ أُفْطِرُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ مَعَ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ( عليه السلام ) فِي شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ مَا يُؤْتَى بِهِ قَصْعَةً مِنْ ثَرِيدِ خَلٍّ وَ زَيْتٍ فَكَانَ أَوَّلُ مَا يَتَنَاوَلُ مِنْهَا ثَلَاثَ لُقَمٍ ثُمَّ يُؤْتَى بِالْجَفْنَةِ .

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Khalid ibn Najih who has said the following: “I would break my fast with abu ‘ Abd Allah, and abu al-Hassan al-Awwal, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, in the month of Ramadan. First they would bring a bowl of Tharid (bread made in pieces in broth) with vinegar and oil, and at first he (the Imam) would take three morsels, then afterward a big bowl would come.”’

    عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَلَامَةَ الْقَلَانِسِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَلَمَّا تَكَلَّمْتُ قَالَ لِي مَا لِي أَسْمَعُ كَلَامَكَ قَدْ ضَعُفَ قُلْتُ قَدْ سَقَطَ فَمِي قَالَ فَكَأَنَّهُ شَقَّ عَلَيْهِ ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ فَأَيَّ شَيْ‏ءٍ تَأْكُلُ قُلْتُ آكُلُ مَا كَانَ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالثَّرِيدِ فَإِنَّ فِيهِ بَرَكَةً فَإِنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ لَحْمٌ فَالْخَلُّ وَ الزَّيْتُ .

    2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Hammad ibn ‘Isa from Salamah al-Qalanisiy who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and when I spoke to him he (the Imam) asked, ‘Why do I hear your voice as weak?’ I replied, ‘Because my mouth has fallen (perhaps a tooth).’ As if it seemed to grieve him (the Imam); and then he asked, ‘What do you eat?’ I replied, ‘I eat whatever is at home.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must eat Tharid (bread made in pieces in broth) because there is blessing in it and if it does not have meat then vinegar and oil are fine.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) أَشْبَهَ النَّاسِ طِعْمَةً بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كَانَ يَأْكُلُ الْخُبْزَ وَ الْخَلَّ وَ الزَّيْتَ وَ يُطْعِمُ النَّاسَ الْخُبْزَ وَ اللَّحْمَ .

    3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ’Isma‘il ibn Mehran from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from Zayd ibn al-Hassan who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin was very similar to the Messenger of Allah in eating. He would eat bread with vinegar and oil and feed people bread and meat.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ الْوَاسِطِيِّ عَنْ عَجْلَانَ قَالَ تَعَشَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) بَعْدَ عَتَمَةٍ وَ كَانَ يَتَعَشَّى بَعْدَ عَتَمَةٍ فَأُتِيَ بِخَلٍّ وَ زَيْتٍ وَ لَحْمٍ بَارِدٍ فَجَعَلَ يَنْتِفُ اللَّحْمَ فَيُطْعِمُنِيهِ وَ يَأْكُلُ هُوَ الْخَلَّ وَ الزَّيْتَ وَ يَدَعُ اللَّحْمَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا طَعَامُنَا وَ طَعَامُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) .

    4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Ubaydah al-Wasitiy from ‘Ajlan who has said the following: “I once had dinner with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, after Salat (prayer) of al-‘Isha’. He (the Imam) would take dinner after Salat (prayer) of al-‘Isha’. Vinegar, oil and cold meat were brought. He began to pull pieces of meat and give them to me but himself eat vinegar and oil and left the meat. He (the Imam) said, ‘This is our food and the food of the prophets ‘Alayhim al-Salam.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ أَكَلْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ يَا جَارِيَةُ ائْتِينَا بِطَعَامِنَا الْمَعْرُوفِ فَأُتِيَ بِقَصْعَةٍ فِيهَا خَلٌّ وَ زَيْتٌ فَأَكَلْنَا .

    5. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Faddal from Yunus ibn Ya‘qub from ‘Abd al-‘A’la’ who has said the following: “I once ate with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he (the Imam) said, ‘O Jariyah (female servant), bring for us our popular food.’ She then brought a bowl with vinegar and oil in it and we ate.’”

  32. 11549Al-Kafi

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ أَحَبَّ الْأَصْبَاغِ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْخَلُّ وَ الزَّيْتُ وَ قَالَ هُوَ طَعَامُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) .

    6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The best of dishes to the Messenger of Allah was vinegar and oil and he would say it was the food of the Prophets ‘Alayhim al-Salam.’”

    وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) مَا افْتَقَرَ أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ يَأْتَدِمُونَ بِالْخَلِّ وَ الزَّيْتِ وَ ذَلِكَ أُدْمُ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) .

    7. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘A family that uses vinegar and oil as their sauce, never becomes needy; it is the sauce of the Prophets, ‘Alayhim al-Salam.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَرْقِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ الْحُرِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْحَلَبِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الطَّعَامِ فَقَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالْخَلِّ وَ الزَّيْتِ فَإِنَّهُ مَرِي‏ءٌ فَإِنَّ عَلِيّاً ( عليه السلام ) كَانَ يُكْثِرُ أَكْلَهُ وَ إِنِّي أُكْثِرُ أَكْلَهُ وَ إِنَّهُ مَرِي‏ءٌ .

    8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Barqiy from his father from certain persons of his people from Ayyub ibn al-Hurr from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Halabiy who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about food. He (the Imam) said, ‘You must use vinegar and oil for food; it is palatable and Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ate it very often. I eat it very often and it is palatable.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَأْكُلُ الْخَلَّ وَ الزَّيْتَ وَ يَجْعَلُ نَفَقَتَهُ تَحْتَ طِنْفِسَتِهِ .

    9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle Ya’qub ibn Salim who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, would eat vinegar with oil and keep his expenses under the carpet.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا فَقَرَّبَتْ إِلَيْهِ كِسَراً فَقَالَ هَلْ عِنْدَكِ إِدَامٌ فَقَالَتْ لَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا عِنْدِي إِلَّا خَلٌّ فَقَالَ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) نِعْمَ الْإِدَامُ الْخَلُّ مَا أَقْفَرَ بَيْتٌ فِيهِ الْخَلُّ .

    1. Al-Husayn from Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Hassan ibn Ali al-Washsha’ from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once the Messenger of Allah went to the house of ‘Umm Salamah, may Allah be pleased with her, and she brought pieces of bread. He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, ‘Do you have any sauce?’ She replied, ‘No, O Messenger of Allah except vinegar.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Yes, vinegar is the best sauce; a house which has vinegar does not become poor.’”

    2. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim from Sulayman ibn Khalid who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Vinegar strengthens the power of understanding.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ مَا أَقْفَرَ بَيْتٌ فِيهِ خَلٌّ وَ قَدْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) ذَلِكَ .

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Ali ibn abu Hamzah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘A house in which there is vinegar does not become needy, and the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has already said it.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْهَمَذَانِيِّ أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ عِنْدَ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) بِخُرَاسَانَ فَقُدِّمَتْ إِلَيْهِ مَائِدَةٌ عَلَيْهَا خَلٌّ وَ مِلْحٌ فَافْتَتَحَ ( عليه السلام ) بِالْخَلِّ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ أَمَرْتَنَا أَنْ نَفْتَتِحَ بِالْمِلْحِ فَقَالَ هَذَا مِثْلُ هَذَا يَعْنِي الْخَلَّ وَ إِنَّ الْخَلَّ يَشُدُّ الذِّهْنَ وَ يَزِيدُ فِي الْعَقْلِ .

    4. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar has narrated from his father from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy who has said the following: “A man in Khurasan once was with al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and the table-spread with food inside, vinegar and salt, was brought to him. He (the Imam) began with vinegar and the man said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, have you commanded us to begin with salt?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This is like that’, meaning vinegar, ‘and that vinegar strengthens the mind and increases the ability to understand.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبَانِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّا لَنَبْدَأُ بِالْخَلِّ عِنْدَنَا كَمَا تَبْدَءُونَ بِالْمِلْحِ عِنْدَكُمْ فَإِنَّ الْخَلَّ لَيَشُدُّ الْعَقْلَ .

    5. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Aban ibn ‘Abd al-Malik from ’Isma‘il ibn Jabir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘We begin with vinegar which is with us as you begin with salt which is with you, and vinegar strengthens the ability to understand better.’”

    6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the best sauce to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was vinegar.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْأَصَمِّ عَنْ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) نِعْمَ الْإِدَامُ الْخَلُّ يَكْسِرُ الْمِرَّةَ وَ يُطْفِئُ الصَّفْرَاءَ وَ يُحْيِي الْقَلْبَ .

    7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from certain persons of our people from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Asamm from Shu’ayb from abu Basir who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘The best sauce is vinegar, it breaks bitterness, (bile) extinguishes yellowness (gall) and brings the heart to life.’”

    عَلِيٌّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ خَلُّ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّهُ لَيَقْتُلُ دَوَابَّ الْبَطْنِ وَ يَشُدُّ الْفَمَ .

    8. Ali has narrated from his father from Hanan ibn Sadir from his father who has said the following: “Once, vinegar of wine (clean grape juice with vinegar in it placed in the sun to turn the whole thing into vinegar) was mentioned before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) said, ‘It kills dawab (the insects) in the belly and strengthens the mouth (the teeth).’”

    9. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Vinegar of wine strengthens tooth gum, kills dawab in the belly and strengthens the ability to understand.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ أَحْمَدَ ابْنَيْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ أَبِيهِمَا رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الِاصْطِبَاغُ بِالْخَلِّ يَقْطَعُ شَهْوَةَ الزِّنَا .

    10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy from Muhammad and Ahmad sons of ‘Umar ibn Musa from their father in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Using vinegar as sauce cuts down the desire of fornication.’”

    أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ رَبِيعٍ الْمُسْلِيِّ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ رَزِينٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِخَلِّ الْخَمْرِ فَاغْمِسْ فِيهِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَبْقَى فِي جَوْفِكَ دَابَّةٌ إِلَّا قَتَلَهَا .

    11. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Rabi’ al-Musliy from Ahmad ibn Razin from Sufyan al-Simt who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must eat vinegar of wine and immerse (the morsel or use it very often) in it, because it does not leave any dawab (insects) animal in your belly without killing them.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ رُشَيْدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الدَّيْلَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ كَانُوا يَسْتَفْتِحُونَ بِالْخَلِّ وَ يَخْتِمُونَ بِهِ وَ نَحْنُ نَسْتَفْتِحُ بِالْمِلْحِ وَ نَخْتِمُ بِالْخَلِّ .

    12. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from certain persons of our people from Ali ibn Sulayman ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allah from Sulayman al-Daylamiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Banu Israel would begin their food with vinegar and end with it but we begin with salt and end with vinegar.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي مَحْمُودٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَفَعَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ يُوسُفَ ( عليه السلام ) لَمَّا كَانَ فِي السِّجْنِ شَكَا إِلَى رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَكْلَ الْخُبْزِ وَحْدَهُ وَ سَأَلَ إِدَاماً يَأْتَدِمُ بِهِ وَ قَدْ كَانَ كَثُرَ عِنْدَهُ قِطَعُ الْخُبْزِ الْيَابِسِ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ الْخُبْزَ وَ يَجْعَلَهُ فِي إِجَّانَةٍ وَ يَصُبَّ عَلَيْهِ الْمَاءَ وَ الْمِلْحَ فَصَارَ مُرِّيّاً فَجَعَلَ يَأْتَدِمُ بِهِ ( عليه السلام ) .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Musa ibn al-Hassan from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn abu Mahmud f his father in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that when Yusuf (Joseph) was in jail, he complained before his Lord, most Majestic, most Glorious, about eating bread alone and asked for sauce and there were a great deal of pieces of dry bread with him. He commanded him to place the bread in a pot, pour water on it with salt and it became Mury. He, ‘Alayhi al-Salam used it as sauce.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) كُلُوا الزَّيْتَ وَ ادَّهِنُوا بِالزَّيْتِ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ .

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Use Olive oil for food and rubbing; it is from the blessed tree.’ Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn al-Qaddah from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has narrated from a similar Hadith.”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مِثْلَهُ .أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ مِمَّا أَوْصَى بِهِ آدَمُ ( عليه السلام ) إِلَى هِبَةِ اللَّهِ ابْنِهِ أَنْ كُلِ الزَّيْتُونَ فَإِنَّهُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ .

    2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from ‘Ubayd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Of the matters that Adam said in his will to Hibbahtu Allah, his son was this: ‘You must eat olives because they are from the blessed tree.’”
