    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَجْلَانَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ يَكُونُ عِنْدَهُمْ شَاةٌ لَبُونٌ إِلَّا قُدِّسُوا فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ قُلْتُ وَ كَيْفَ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ قَالَ يُقَالُ لَهُمْ بُورِكْتُمْ بُورِكْتُمْ .

Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan from Muhammad ibn al-‘Ajlan who has said the following: “I once heard abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If a family keeps a milking sheep, such family is revered twice a day.’ I (the narrator) then asked, ‘What is said to such family?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is said to the family, “You have received blessings, you have received blessings.’””

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَارِدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ مُؤْمِنٍ يَكُونُ فِي مَنْزِلِهِ عَنْزٌ حَلُوبٌ إِلَّا قُدِّسَ أَهْلُ ذَلِكَ الْمَنْزِلِ وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَإِنْ كَانَتَا اثْنَتَيْنِ قُدِّسُوا وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ قَالَ فَقَالَ بَعْضُ أَصْحَابِنَا وَ كَيْفَ يُقَدَّسُونَ قَالَ يَقِفُ عَلَيْهِمْ مَلَكٌ فِي كُلِّ صَبَاحٍ فَيَقُولُ لَهُمْ قُدِّسْتُمْ وَ بُورِكَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَ طِبْتُمْ وَ طَابَ إِدَامُكُمْ قَالَ قُلْتُ لَهُ وَ مَا مَعْنَى قُدِّسْتُمْ قَالَ طُهِّرْتُمْ .

    6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ibn Mahbub from Muhammad ibn Marid who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘If a family keeps a milking goat, reverence and blessing is sent on them. If they are two, the family is revered and blessed twice a day.’ Certain persons of our people then said, ‘How are they revered?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘An angels stands on them every morning and says, “You are revered and blessed, you are fine and your sauce is fine.’ I then asked, ‘What is the meaning of ‘ qudistum ’ (you are revered)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It means, ‘You are cleansed.’”

  3. 12699Al-Kafi

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لِعَمَّتِهِ مَا يَمْنَعُكِ أَنْ تَتَّخِذِي فِي بَيْتِكِ بَرَكَةً قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ مَا الْبَرَكَةُ قَالَ شَاةٌ تُحْلَبُ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ كَانَ فِي دَارِهِ شَاةٌ تُحْلَبُ أَوْ نَعْجَةٌ أَوْ بَقَرَةٌ تُحْلَبُ فَبَرَكَاتٌ كُلُّهُنَّ .

    7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ibn abu Najran from abu Jamilah from Jabir who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once said to his aunt, ‘What keeps you from having a blessing in your home?’ She asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is a blessing?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘It is a sheep that you can milk. If one keeps a sheep in his home to milk or an ewe or a cow to milk they all are blessings.’”

  4. 12700Al-Kafi

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَارُودِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَا لِي لَا أَرَى فِي بَيْتِكِ الْبَرَكَةَ قَالَتْ بَلَى وَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ إِنَّ الْبَرَكَةَ لَفِي بَيْتِي فَقَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ أَنْزَلَ ثَلَاثَ بَرَكَاتٍ الْمَاءَ وَ النَّارَ وَ الشَّاةَ .

    8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Hammad from Hariz from abu al-Jarud who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, went to the house of ‘Umm Salamah and said to her, ‘Why is it that I do not see blessing in your house?’ She said, ‘Yes, all praise belongs to Allah, there are blessings in my house.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has sent three kinds of blessings which are water, fire and sheep.’”

  5. 12701Al-Kafi

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتٍ تَرُوحُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثَلَاثُونَ شَاةً إِلَّا لَمْ تَزَلِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ تَحْرُسُهُمْ حَتَّى يُصْبِحُوا .

    9. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, from his father, from Sulayman al-Ja‘fariy who in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If any family keeps thirty sheep in the evening in their house, angels continue to protect them until the morning.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَسِمُ الْغَنَمَ فِي وُجُوهِهَا قَالَ سِمْهَا فِي آذَانِهَا .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from Yunus ibn Ya’qub who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about if I can mark sheep on their faces. He (the Imam) said, ‘Mark them on their ears.’”

  7. 12703Al-Kafi

    أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ سِمَةِ الْمَوَاشِي فَقَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِهَا إِلَّا فِي الْوُجُوهِ .

    2. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Mahbub from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about marking the animals. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful except their faces.’”

  8. 12704Al-Kafi

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ وَ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ وَهْبٍ قَالَ الْحَمَامُ مِنْ طُيُورِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from an ibn Mahbub from Mu‘awiyah ibn Wahab who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Pigeons are the birds of the Prophets, ‘Alayhim al- Salam.”’

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى مَوْلَى آلِ سَامٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَوَّلَ حَمَامٍ كَانَ بِمَكَّةَ حَمَامٌ لِإِسْمَاعِيلَ ( عليه السلام ) .

    2. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Hammad ibn ‘Uthman from ‘Abd al-‘ Ala’ Mawla’ Ale Sam who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘The first pigeon in Makkah was the pigeon of Tsma‘il ‘Alayhi al-Salam.’”

  10. 12706Al-Kafi

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ أَصْلَ حَمَامِ الْحَرَمِ بَقِيَّةُ حَمَامٍ كَانَ لِإِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ( عليه السلام ) اتَّخَذَهَا كَانَ يَأْنَسُ بِهَافَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يُسْتَحَبُّ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ طَيْراً مَقْصُوصاً تَأْنَسُ بِهِ مَخَافَةَ الْهَوَامِّ .

    3. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘ Umayr from Hafs ibn al-Bakhtariy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The real free pigeon remaining is the pigeon that belonged to Tsma‘il ibn Ibrahim, ‘Alayhima al-Salam, who kept it for comfort. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is preferable to keep a bird with clipped wings for comfort and for (to dispel) fear from vermin.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَائِذٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَدِيجَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ هَذِهِ الْحَمَامُ حَمَامُ الْحَرَمِ هِيَ مِنْ نَسْلِ حَمَامِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ( عليه السلام ) الَّتِي كَانَتْ لَهُ .

    4. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad from al-Washsha’ from Ahmad ibn ‘A’idh from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘These pigeons -the pigeons of al-Haram (the sacred area) - are of the offspring of the pigeon of Tsma‘il ibn Ibrahim, ‘Alayhima al-Salam, that belonged to him.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ وَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَائِذٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَدِيجَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَيْسَ مِنْ بَيْتٍ فِيهِ حَمَامٌ إِلَّا لَمْ يُصِبْ أَهْلَ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْتِ آفَةٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ إِنَّ سُفَهَاءَ الْجِنِّ يَعْبَثُونَ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَيَعْبَثُونَ بِالْحَمَامِ وَ يَتْرُكُونَ الْإِنْسَانَ .

    5. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad and Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad all from al-Washsha’ from Ahmad ibn ‘A’idh from abu Khadijah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A house in which pigeons exist, the people of that house do not receive any harm from Jinn. The dimwitted Jinns play in the house, thus they play with pigeons and the people are left alone.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ شَكَا رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْوَحْشَةَ فَأَمَرَهُ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ فِي بَيْتِهِ زَوْجَ حَمَامٍ .

    6. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from ‘Ubayd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once a man complained before the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, about loneliness and fear. He (the Messenger of Allah) commanded him to keep a pair of pigeons in his house.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَامُورَانِيِّ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ صَنْدَلٍ عَنْ زَيْدٍ الشَّحَّامِ قَالَ ذُكِرَتِ الْحَمَامُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ اتَّخِذُوهَا فِي مَنَازِلِكُمْ فَإِنَّهَا مَحْبُوبَةٌ لَحِقَتْهَا دَعْوَةُ نُوحٍ ( عليه السلام ) وَ هِيَ آنَسُ شَيْ‏ءٍ فِي الْبُيُوتِ .

    7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from abu ‘Abd Allah, al-Jamuraniy from al-Hassan ibn Ali ibn abu Hamzah from his father from Sandal from Zayd al-Shahham who has said the following: “I once mentioned pigeons before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he (the Imam) said, ‘You can keep them in your homes; it is a lovely (hobby). The prayer of Nuh (Noah), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has arrived at them. It is the most comforting thing in the house.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الْحَمَامُ طَيْرٌ مِنْ طُيُورِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ ( عليهم السلام ) الَّتِي كَانُوا يُمْسِكُونَ فِي بُيُوتِهِمْ وَ لَيْسَ مِنْ بَيْتٍ فِيهِ حَمَامٌ إِلَّا لَمْ تُصِبْ أَهْلَ ذَلِكَ الْبَيْتِ آفَةٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ إِنَّ سُفَهَاءَ الْجِنِّ يَعْبَثُونَ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَيَعْبَثُونَ بِالْحَمَامِ وَ يَدَعُونَ النَّاسَ قَالَ فَرَأَيْتُ فِي بُيُوتِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) حَمَاماً لِابْنِهِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ .

    8. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from a man from ‘Umar ibn Yazid from abu Salamah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that pigeons are of the birds of the Prophets, ‘Alayhim al- Salam, who kept them in their homes. Any home in which there is a pigeon, the people therein are not harmed by the dimwitted ones of Jinn who plays in the house, thus they play with the pigeons and leave the people alone.’ I then saw in the house of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, a pigeon that belonged to his son ’Isma‘il.”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ نَظَرَ إِلَى حَمَامٍ فِي بَيْتِهِ مَا مِنِ انْتِفَاضٍ يَنْتَفِضُ بِهَا إِلَّا نَفَّرَ اللَّهُ بِهَا مَنْ دَخَلَ الْبَيْتَ مِنْ عُزْمَةِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ .

    9. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Ya‘qub ibn Ja‘far who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, looked at pigeons in his house and said, ‘With every vibration that it causes, Allah thereby dispels from the house the incantations and spells by the people on earth that may try to enter therein.”’

    عَنْهُ عَنِ الْجَامُورَانِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ صَنْدَلٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِساً فِي بَيْتِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَى حَمَامٍ رَاعِبِيٍّ يُقَرْقِرُ طَوِيلًا فَنَظَرَ إِلَيَّ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ يَا دَاوُدُ تَدْرِي مَا يَقُولُ هَذَا الطَّيْرُ قُلْتُ لَا وَ اللَّهِ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ قَالَ يَدْعُو عَلَى قَتَلَةِ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) فَاتَّخِذُوا فِي مَنَازِلِكُمْ .

    10. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from al-Jamuraniy from ibn abu Hamzah from Sandal from Dawud ibn Farqad who has said the following: “I once was sitting in the house of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I looked at a pigeon of Ra’‘ibiy kind (name of a place) that made a long sound. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, looked at me and asked, ‘O Dawud, do you know what this bird says?’ I said, ‘No, I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It prays against the people who murdered al- Husayn, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, so you must keep it in your homes.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْأَزْرَقِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّ حَفِيفَ أَجْنِحَةِ الْحَمَامِ لَتَطْرُدُ الشَّيَاطِينَ .

    11. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Muhammad ibn Ali from a man from Yahya al-Arzaq who has said the following: I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘The sound of the wings of pigeon dispels the devils.’”

    12. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, with pigeons, keeps a house safe from crumbling down.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ اتَّخِذُوا الْحَمَامَ الرَّاعِبِيَّةَ فِي بُيُوتِكُمْ فَإِنَّهَا تَلْعَنُ قَتَلَةَ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) وَ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ قَاتِلَهُ .

    13. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must keep al-Ra’‘ibiy pigeon in your homes because it condemns the murderers of al-Husayn ibn Ali, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, and Allah has condemned his killer.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيِّ قَالَ اسْتَهْدَانِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَأَهْدَيْتُ لَهُ طَيْراً رَاعِبِيّاً فَدَخَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ اجْعَلُوا هَذَا الطَّيْرَ الرَّاعِبِيَّ مَعِي فِي الْبَيْتِ يُؤْنِسُنِيقَالَ وَ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ حَمَامٌ يَفُتُّ لَهُنَّ خُبْزاً .

    14. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Bakr ibn Salih from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from ‘Uthman al- Asbahaniy who has said the following: “’Isma‘il ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asked me for a gift and I gave him a Ra’Tbiy bird (a pigeon). Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, came in and said, ‘Keep this al-Ra’‘ibiy bird in the house with me for comfort.’ ‘Uthman has said, ‘I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when in front of him there was a pigeon for which he (the Imam) made the bread in pieces.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَارِقِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَرِيمِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَرَأَيْتُ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ ثَلَاثَ حَمَامَاتٍ خُضْرٍ قَدْ ذَرَقْنَ عَلَى الْفِرَاشِ فَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ هَؤُلَاءِ الْحَمَامُ تَقْذَرُ الْفِرَاشَ فَقَالَ لَا إِنَّهُ يُسْتَحَبُّ أَنْ تُسْكَنَ فِي الْبَيْتِ .

    15. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Bakr ibn Salih from Ash‘ath ibn ‘Uthman ibn Muhammad al-Bariqiy from ‘ Abd al-Karim ibn Salih who has said the following: “I once went to visit abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and I saw three green pigeons on his furnishing which had made droppings on the furnishings and I said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, these pigeons have dirtied the furnishings.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘No, it is preferable that they stay inside the house.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبَانٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ فِي مَنْزِلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) زَوْجُ حَمَامٍ أَحْمَرُ .

    16. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from certain persons of his people from Aban from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that in the house of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, there was a pair of red pigeons.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجْرَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ السِّنْدِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى الْأَزْرَقِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) احْتَفَرَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) بِئْراً فَرَمَوْا فِيهَا فَأُخْبِرَ بِذَلِكَ فَجَاءَ حَتَّى وَقَفَ عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ لَتَكُفَّنَّ أَوْ لَأُسْكِنَنَّهَا الْحَمَامَ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِنَّ حَفِيفَ أَجْنِحَتِهَا تَطْرُدُ الشَّيَاطِينَ .

    17. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu Najran from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr [and] Ibrahim al-Sindiy from Yahya al- Azraq who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin had dug a well, then they threw things in it and it was reported to him (the Imam). He went, stood on the well and said, ‘You must stop throwing things in it, otherwise, I will make the pigeons to use it as their living place.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘The sound of the pigeon repels Satans.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِنَا قَالَ ذُكِرَ الْحَمَامُ عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ إِنَّهُ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّ عُمَرَ رَأَى حَمَاماً يَطِيرُ وَ رَجُلٌ تَحْتَهُ يَعْدُو فَقَالَ عُمَرُ شَيْطَانٌ يَعْدُو تَحْتَهُ شَيْطَانٌ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَا كَانَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ عِنْدَكُمْ فَقِيلَ صِدِّيقٌ فَقَالَ إِنَّ بَقِيَّةَ حَمَامِ الْحَرَمِ مِنْ حَمَامِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ .

    18. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from certain persons of our people who has said the following: “Once, pigeons were mentioned before abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and a man said, ‘It has come to my knowledge that once ‘Umar saw a pigeon flying and a man underneath was running. ‘Umar then said, “One Satan runs under another Satan.” Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, then said, ‘(It is because) Tsma‘il was not there with you.’ Someone then asked, ‘Was he (Tsma‘il) a friend (of pigeons)?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The pigeons of al-Haram (the sacred area) are of the remaining pigeons of Tsma‘il.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَصْرٍ قَالَ سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الزَّوْجِ مِنَ الْحَمَامِ يُفْرِخُ عِنْدَهُ يَتَزَوَّجُ الطَّيْرُ أُمَّهُ وَ ابْنَتَهُ قَالَ لَا بَأْسَ بِمَا كَانَ بَيْنَ الْبَهَائِمِ .

    19. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ahmad ibn Muhammad from all from ibn abu Nasr who has said the following: “Once a man asked al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about a pair of pigeons which hatched chicks with him; if a bird can mate a mother bird or daughter bird. He (the Imam) said, ‘It is not harmful with what is in animals.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُذَافِرٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الطَّيْرِ يُرْسَلُ مِنَ الْبَلَدِ الْبَعِيدِ الَّذِي لَمْ يَرَهُ قَطُّ فَيَأْتِي فَقَالَ يَا ابْنَ عُذَافِرٍ هُوَ يَأْتِي مَنْزِلَ صَاحِبِهِ مِنْ ثَلَاثِينَ فَرْسَخاً عَلَى مَعْرِفَتِهِ وَ حَسَبِهِ فَإِذَا زَادَتْ عَلَى ثَلَاثِينَ فَرْسَخاً جَاءَتْ إِلَى أَرْبَابِهَا بِأَرْزَاقِهَا .

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Muhammad ibn ‘ Adhafir who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a bird which is set free in a faraway area and the bird has never seen it but it comes back. He (the Imam) said, ‘O ibn ‘Udha’fir, birds can come to the house of its owner from a distance of thirty farsakh (90 miles) because of its knowledge and environment, but if it is more than thirty farsakh then the bird comes for the sustenance which is determined for it.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَا أَتَى مِنْ ثَلَاثِينَ فَرْسَخاً فَبِالْهِدَايَةِ وَ مَا كَانَ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَبِالْأُكُلِ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘That (bird) which comes back from a distance of thirty farsakh is because of guidance and from a distance of more than this is because of food.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الطَّيْرُ يَجِي‏ءُ مِنَ الْمَكَانِ الْبَعِيدِ قَالَ إِنَّمَا يَجِي‏ءُ لِرِزْقِهِ .

    3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a bird which comes back from a faraway place. He (the Imam) said, ‘It comes back because of its sustenance.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جُمْهُورٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ دَاوُدَ الْحَدَّادِ عَنْ حَرِيزٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قُلْتُ الْحَمَامُ يُرْسَلْنَ مِنَ الْمَوَاضِعِ الْبَعِيدَةِ فَيَأْتِي وَ يُرْسَلْنَ مِنَ الْمَكَانِ الْقَرِيبِ فَلَا يَأْتِي فَقَالَ إِذَا انْقَطَعَ أُكُلُهُ فَلَا يَأْتِي .

    4. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Jumhur from Ali ibn Dawud al-Haddad from Hariz who has said the following: “I once asked abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of birds that are set free in a faraway place come but not the ones released nearby. He (the Imam) said, ‘When its sustenance in the area is depleted, then it does not come back.’”

    1.     عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ رُشَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْهَاشِمِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَخْلَدٍ الْأَهْوَازِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ دِيكٌ أَبْيَضُ أَفْرَقُ يَحْرُسُ دُوَيْرَتَهُ وَ سَبْعَ دُوَيْرَاتٍ حَوْلَهُ وَ لَنَفْضَةٌ مِنْ حَمَامٍ مُنَمَّرَةٍ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ سَبْعِ دُيُوكٍ فُرْقٍ بِيضٍ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn Sulayman ibn Rushayd from al-Qasim ibn ‘ Abd al-Rahman al-Hashimiy from Muhammad ibn Mukhallad al-Ahwaziy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A white rooster which is called afraq protects its house and seven houses around it, however, a vibration from a spotted pigeon is better than seven white roosters.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ قَالَ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) حُسْنُ الطَّاوُسِ فَقَالَ لَا يَزِيدُكَ عَلَى حُسْنِ الدِّيكِ الْأَبْيَضِ شَيْ‏ءٌقَالَ وَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ الدِّيكُ أَحْسَنُ صَوْتاً مِنَ الطَّاوُسِ وَ هُوَ أَعْظَمُ بَرَكَةً يُنَبِّهُكَ فِي مَوَاقِيتِ الصَّلَاةِ وَ إِنَّمَا يَدْعُو الطَّاوُسُ بِالْوَيْلِ لِخَطِيئَةِ الَّتِي ابْتُلِيَ بِهَا .

    3. A number of our people have narrated from, Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid, from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al- Hassan ibn Rashid, from Ya’qub ibn Ja’far ibn Ibrahim al-Ja’fariy who has said the following: “Once, the beauty of peacock was mentioned before abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who said, ‘It cannot have any greater beauty over the white rooster.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I heard him (the Imam) saying, ‘The voice of rooster is better than the voice of peacock. It is of greater blessing because it wakes you up for the time of Salat (prayer). The peacock says, ‘Woe is me.’ It says so because of the mistake that it fell in.’”

    4. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of his people in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The white rooster is my friend and the friend of every believing person.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ أَبِي شُعَيْبٍ الْمَحَامِلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ فِي الدِّيكِ خَمْسُ خِصَالٍ مِنْ خِصَالِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ السَّخَاءُ وَ الشَّجَاعَةُ وَ الْقَنَاعَةُ وَ الْمَعْرِفَةُ بِأَوْقَاتِ الصَّلَوَاتِ وَ كَثْرَةُ الطَّرُوقَةِ وَ الْغَيْرَةِ .

    5. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from certain persons of his people from abu Shu’ayb al-Muhamiliy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘In roosters there are five qualities of the qualities of the Prophets, like bravery, contentment, knowledge of the times of Salat (prayer), the great deal of ability of mating and courage (to protect the female).”’

It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad all from Ja’far ibn Muhammad al-Ash‘ariy from ibn al-Qaddah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘Crowing of the rooster is its Salat (prayer) and flipping of its wings is its Ruku’ (bowing down on one’s knees) and Sujud (prostrations).”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ مِهْرَانَ عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَنِ اتَّخَذَ فِي بَيْتِهِ طَيْراً فَلْيَتَّخِذْ وَرَشَاناً فَإِنَّهُ أَكْثَرُ شَيْئاً لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ وَ أَكْثَرُ تَسْبِيحاً وَ هُوَ طَيْرٌ يُحِبُّنَا أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ .

    1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ’Isma‘il ibn Mehran from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from abu Bakr al-Hadramiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ’If one likes to keep birds in his house, he must keep Warshan (a kind of pigeon). It speaks of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, most often as well as Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) and it is a bird that loves us, the Ahl al-Bayt (family of prophet Muhammad, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause).’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيِّ قَالَ اسْتَهْدَانِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) طَيْراً مِنْ طُيُورِ الْعِرَاقِ فَأَهْدَيْتُ وَرَشَاناً فَدَخَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَرَآهُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الْوَرَشَانَ يَقُولُ بُورِكْتُمْ بُورِكْتُمْ فَأَمْسِكُوهُ .

    2. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from Bakr ibn Salih from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah ‘Uthman al-Asbahaniy who has said the following: “’Isma’il, ibn abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once, asked me to give a bird of Iraq as a gift to him. I gave him a Warshan. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, came in. He (the Imam) saw it and said, ‘ Al-Warshan says, ‘You are blessed, you are blessed’, so you must keep it.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنِ الْجَامُورَانِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ سَيْفٍ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّهُ نَهَى ابْنَهُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنِ اتِّخَاذِ الْفَاخِتَةِ وَ قَالَ إِنْ كُنْتَ لَا بُدَّ مُتَّخِذاً فَاتَّخِذْ وَرَشَاناً فَإِنَّهُ كَثِيرُ الذِّكْرِ لِلَّهِ تَبَارَكَ وَ تَعَالَى .

    3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from al-Jamuraniy ibn abu Hamzah from Sayf from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar from abu Basir who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, prohibited his son ’Isma’il from keeping al-Fakhtah (ring pigeon) and said if you must keep a bird, keep Warshan because it speaks of Allah, most Blessed, most High, very often.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْبَخْتَرِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَتْ فِي دَارِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) فَاخِتَةٌ فَسَمِعَهَا يَوْماً وَ هِيَ تَصِيحُ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ أَ تَدْرُونَ مَا تَقُولُ هَذِهِ الْفَاخِتَةُ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ تَقُولُ فَقَدْتُكُمْ فَقَدْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَنَفْقِدَنَّهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ تَفْقِدَنَا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهَا فَذُبِحَتْ .

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hafs ibn af-Bakhtariy from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that in the house of abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, there was al-Fakhtah and he one day heard it crying. He (the Imam) said, ‘Do you know what it (al-Fakhtah) says?’ They replied, ‘No, we do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It says, ‘I have lost you, I have lost you.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘We will lose it before it will lose us.’ He (the Imam) commanded to slaughter it (for food).’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيِّ قَالَ أَهْدَيْتُ إِلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) صُلْصُلًا فَدَخَلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فَلَمَّا رَآهَا قَالَ هَذَا الطَّيْرَ الْمَشُومَ أَخْرِجُوهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَقُولُ فَقَدْتُكُمْ فَقَدْتُكُمْ فَافْقِدُوهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَفْقِدَكُمْ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Bakr ibn Salih from Muhammad ibn abu Hamzah from ‘Uthman al-Asbahaniy who has said the following: “I once gave a Sulsul as a gift to Tsma’il, son of abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, came in. When he (the Imam) saw it he said, ‘This bird is an unfortunate bird, so you must send it away. It says, ‘I have failed to find you, I have failed to find you.’ You must lose it before it fails to find you.”’

    عَنْهُ عَنِ الْجَامُورَانِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ سَيْفِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ أَبِي بَصِيرٍ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( صلوات الله عليه ) فَقَالَ لِي يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ اذْهَبْ بِنَا إِلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ نَعُودُهُ وَ كَانَ شَاكِياً فَقُمْنَا وَ دَخَلْنَا عَلَى إِسْمَاعِيلَ فَإِذَا فِي مَنْزِلِهِ فَاخِتَةٌ فِي قَفَصٍ تَصِيحُ فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَا بُنَيَّ مَا يَدْعُوكَ إِلَى إِمْسَاكِ هَذِهِ الْفَاخِتَةِ أَ وَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّهَا مَشُومَةٌ أَ وَ مَا تَدْرِي مَا تَقُولُ قَالَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ لَا قَالَ إِنَّمَا تَدْعُو عَلَى أَرْبَابِهَا فَتَقُولُ فَقَدْتُكُمْ فَقَدْتُكُمْ فَأَخْرِجُوهُ .

    3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from al-Jamuraniy ibn abu Hamzah from Sayf ibn ‘Amirah from Ishaq ibn ‘Ammar from abu Basir who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and he said to me, ‘O abu Muhammad, come with us to visit Tsma‘il because of his illness. We left to visit Tsma‘il and in his house we saw al-Fakhtah in a cage crying. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘Son, what has made you to keep this al- Fakhtah? Did you not know that it is a misfortune?’ Do you know what it says?’ Tsma‘il replied, ‘No, I do not know.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It prays against its owners saying, ‘May I fail to find you, may I fail to find you’ so you must send it far and away.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنِ الْحَلَبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ يُكْرَهُ أَنْ يَكُونَ فِي دَارِ الرَّجُلِ الْمُسْلِمِ الْكَلْبُ .

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hammad from al-Halabiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is detestable for a Muslim to allow a dog to live in his house.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنِ ابْنِ بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زُرَارَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ يَتَّخِذُ كَلْباً إِلَّا نَقَصَ فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ مِنْ عَمَلِ صَاحِبِهِ قِيرَاطٌ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Whoever keeps a dog, every day one Qirat (a certain unit of measurement) is reduced from the (good) deeds of his owner.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ الْكَلْبِ نُمْسِكُهُ فِي الدَّارِ قَالَ لَا .

    3. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ‘Uthman from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if we can keep a dog in the house. He (the Imam) said, ‘No, you must not do so.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَقِيلٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( صلوات الله عليه ) لَا خَيْرَ فِي الْكِلَابِ إِلَّا كَلْبَ صَيْدٍ أَوْ كَلْبَ مَاشِيَةٍ .

    4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Yusuf ibn ‘Aqil from Muhammad ibn Qays who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘There is nothing good in dogs except hunting dogs or that which guards cattle.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّضْرِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ جَرَّاحٍ الْمَدَائِنِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لَا تُمْسِكْ كَلْبَ الصَّيْدِ فِي الدَّارِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ بَيْنَكَ وَ بَيْنَهُ بَابٌ .

    5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from his father from al-Nadr ibn Suwayd from al- Qasim ibn Sulayman from Jarrah al-Mada’iniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must not keep a hunting dog in the house unless there is a door between you and the dog.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ كَلْبِ الصَّيْدِ يُمْسَكُ فِي الدَّارِ قَالَ إِذَا كَانَ يُغْلَقُ دُونَهُ الْبَابُ فَلَا بَأْسَ .

    6. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “I once asked him (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, if a hunting dog can be kept in the house. He (the Imam) said, ‘If a door can be closed in front of it, then it is not harmful.’”

    7. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from and Muhammad ibn Yahya from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Aban from Zurarah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said that dogs of one color, all black are from Jinn.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ الثُّمَالِيِّ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) فِيمَا بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَ الْمَدِينَةِ إِذَا الْتَفَتَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ فَإِذَا كَلْبٌ أَسْوَدُ بَهِيمٌ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ قَبَّحَكَ اللَّهُ مَا أَشَدَّ مُسَارَعَتَكَ وَ إِذَا هُوَ شَبِيهٌ بِالطَّائِرِ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذَا جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ فَقَالَ هَذَا غُثَيْمٌ بَرِيدُ الْجِنِّ مَاتَ هِشَامٌ السَّاعَةَ وَ هُوَ يَطِيرُ يَنْعَاهُ فِي كُلِّ بَلْدَةٍ .

    8. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Malik ibn ‘Atiyyah from abu Hamzah al-Thumaliy who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, on the road between Makkah and al-Madinah and I saw on his left side a dog of one color, all black. He (the Imam) said, ‘What is the matter with you, may Allah disfigure you, how fiercely you rush!’ It then resembled a bird. I then asked, ‘What is this? I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It was Ghuthaym, mailman of Jinn. Hisham has died in this hour and it flies to spread this news in every town.’”
