   عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُمْهُورٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ فَضَالَةَ بْنِ أَيُّوبَ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ أَنَا مَغْمُومٌ مَكْرُوبٌ فَقَالَ لِي يَا سَكُونِيُّ مِمَّا غَمُّكَ قُلْتُ وُلِدَتْ لِي ابْنَةٌ فَقَالَ يَا سَكُونِيُّ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ ثِقْلُهَا وَ عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا تَعِيشُ فِي غَيْرِ أَجَلِكَ وَ تَأْكُلُ مِنْ غَيْرِ رِزْقِكَ فَسَرَّى وَ اللَّهِ عَنِّيفَقَالَ لِي مَا سَمَّيْتَهَا قُلْتُ فَاطِمَةَ قَالَ آهِ آهِ ثُمَّ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِهِ فَقَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) حَقُّ الْوَلَدِ عَلَى وَالِدِهِ إِذَا كَانَ ذَكَراً أَنْ يَسْتَفْرِهَ أُمَّهُ وَ يَسْتَحْسِنَ اسْمَهُ وَ يُعَلِّمَهُ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَ يُطَهِّرَهُ وَ يُعَلِّمَهُ السِّبَاحَةَ وَ إِذَا كَانَتْ أُنْثَى أَنْ يَسْتَفْرِهَ أُمَّهَا وَ يَسْتَحْسِنَ اسْمَهَا وَ يُعَلِّمَهَا سُورَةَ النُّورِ وَ لَا يُعَلِّمَهَا سُورَةَ يُوسُفَ وَ لَا يُنْزِلَهَا الْغُرَفَ وَ يُعَجِّلَ سَرَاحَهَا إِلَى بَيْتِ زَوْجِهَا أَمَّا إِذَا سَمَّيْتَهَا فَاطِمَةَ فَلَا تَسُبَّهَا وَ لَا تَلْعَنْهَا وَ لَا تَضْرِبْهَا .

   6. Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Jumhur from his father from Fadalah ibn Ayyub from ibn al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “I once went to visit abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who found me sad and depressed. He (the Imam) then asked, ‘O Sakuniy, what has made you so depressed?’ I replied, ‘Aminah (a daughter) is born to me.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Sakuniy, the earth carries her weight and Allah grants her sustenance. She lives in a lifetime which is other than your lifetime (her lifetime does not reduce your lifetime) and she eats from a sustenance which is other than your sustenance’ - he (the Imam) by Allah removed my depression- and asked, ‘What name have you given to her?’ I replied, ‘It is Fatimah.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Ah! Ah! (It is an expression and reminder of one’s nostalgia). He (the Imam) then placed his hand over his forehead, then stated this Hadith. The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, “Of the rights of a son on his father is to respect and honor his mother, give him a good name, teach him the book of Allah, cleanse him (by circumcision) and teach him swimming. If it is a girl, he must respect her mother, give her a good name, teach her Chapter twenty-four of the Quran, not Chapter twelve, he must not lodge her in chambers, and send her very early to the house of her husband.” Since you have named her Fatimah, you must not abuse, condemn or subject her to physical abuse.’”

   عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ شَرِيفِ بْنِ سَابِقٍ عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ أَبِي قُرَّةَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مَنْ قَبَّلَ وَلَدَهُ كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَهُ حَسَنَةً وَ مَنْ فَرَّحَهُ فَرَّحَهُ اللَّهُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ مَنْ عَلَّمَهُ الْقُرْآنَ دُعِيَ بِالْأَبَوَيْنِ فَيُكْسَيَانِ حُلَّتَيْنِ يُضِي‏ءُ مِنْ نُورِهِمَا وُجُوهُ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ .

   1. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Khalid from Sharif ibn Sabiq from al-Fadl ibn abu Qurrah who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘One who kisses his son, Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, writes down for him one good deed and one who makes him happy Allah will make him happy on the Day of Judgment. One who teach him al-Quran his parents will be called on the Day of Judgment and will be then dressed with two dresses which will make the faces of the people of paradise bright because of the light shining from those dresses.’”

   مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَفَعَهُ إِلَى أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مَنْ أَبَرُّ قَالَ وَالِدَيْكَ قَالَ قَدْ مَضَيَا قَالَ بَرَّ وَلَدَكَ .

   2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from abu Talib in a marfu‘ manner who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that a man from al-Ansar (people of al-Madinah) once asked him (the Messenger of Allah), ‘To whom should I be kind?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Be kind to your parents.’ He said, ‘They have passed away.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Be kind to your children.’”

   أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَحِبُّوا الصِّبْيَانَ وَ ارْحَمُوهُمْ وَ إِذَا وَعَدْتُمُوهُمْ شَيْئاً فَفُوا لَهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَا يَدْرُونَ إِلَّا أَنَّكُمْ تَرْزُقُونَهُمْ .

   3. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from Ali ibn Faddal from ‘Abd Allah ibn Muhammad al-Bajaliy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must love children and be kind to them. If you promise them, then keep your promise because they do not know anyone except you who provides them sustenance.’”

   ابْنُ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَمِيلَةَ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ طَرِيفٍ عَنِ الْأَصْبَغِ بْنِ نُبَاتَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ وَلَدٌ صَبَا .

   4. Ibn Faddal has narrated from abu Jamilah from Sa‘d ibn Tarif from al-Asbagh ibn Nubatah who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘One who has a child, he is in love ardently.’”

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَيَرْحَمُ الْعَبْدَ لِشِدَّةِ حُبِّهِ لِوَلَدِهِ .

   5. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Allah will have mercy on (His) slave because of his intense love for his children.’”

   عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ رِبَاطٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) رَحِمَ اللَّهُ مَنْ أَعَانَ وَلَدَهُ عَلَى بِرِّهِ قَالَ قُلْتُ كَيْفَ يُعِينُهُ عَلَى بِرِّهِ قَالَ يَقْبَلُ مَيْسُورَهُ وَ يَتَجَاوَزُ عَنْ مَعْسُورِهِ وَ لَا يُرْهِقُهُ وَ لَا يَخْرَقُ بِهِ فَلَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَ بَيْنَ أَنْ يَصِيرَ فِي حَدٍّ مِنْ حُدُودِ الْكُفْرِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فِي عُقُوقٍ أَوْ قَطِيعَةِ رَحِمٍثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) الْجَنَّةُ طَيِّبَةٌ طَيَّبَهَا اللَّهُ وَ طَيَّبَ رِيحَهَا يُوجَدُ رِيحُهَا مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ أَلْفَيْ عَامٍ وَ لَا يَجِدُ رِيحَ الْجَنَّةِ عَاقٌّ وَ لَا قَاطِعُ رَحِمٍ وَ لَا مُرْخِي الْإِزَارِ خُيَلَاءَ .

   6. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub servant from Ali ibn al-Hassan ibn Ribat from Yunus ibn Ribat who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘Allah grants mercy to one who supports his children in virtuous deeds.’ He (the narrator) has said that he then asked, ‘How does he support him in virtuous deeds.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘He accepts what he can do and bypasses what is difficult for him. He does not impose on him what is beyond his ability; between him and the limits of disbelief there is no more than entering in disobedience and cutting off the good relations among relatives.’ He (the Imam) then said that the Messenger of Allah has said, ‘Paradise is pleasant. Allah has made it pleasant as well as its fragrance which reaches a distance of two thousand years but one who is disobedient to parents, one who has cut off good relations with relatives and one who displays haughtiness and arrogance cannot find and sense the fragrance of paradise.’”

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ يُوسُفَ الْأَزْدِيِّ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) فَقَالَ مَا قَبَّلْتُ صَبِيّاً قَطُّ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ هَذَا رَجُلٌ عِنْدِي أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ النَّارِ .

   7. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar has narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘ Abd Allah from A number of our people have narrated from al- Hassan ibn Ali ibn Yusuf al-Azdiy from a man who has said the following: “He (the Imam), ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that once a man came to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, and said, ‘I have never kissed a child.’ When he left, the Messenger of Allah said, ‘This man to me is one of the people of hellfire.’”

   عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ كُلَيْبٍ الصَّيْدَاوِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا وَعَدْتُمُ الصِّبْيَانَ فَفُوا لَهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَ أَنَّكُمُ الَّذِينَ تَرْزُقُونَهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ لَيْسَ يَغْضَبُ لِشَيْ‏ءٍ كَغَضَبِهِ لِلنِّسَاءِ وَ الصِّبْيَانِ .

   8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from Kulayb al-Saydawiy who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to me, ‘When you promise children something, then you must keep your promise because they see you as the only one who provides them sustenance. Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, does not become as angrier as He does for women and children.’”

    أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ عَنْ ذَرِيحٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ الْوَلَدُ فِتْنَةٌ .

    9. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from Dharih who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A child is a trial (mischief, attraction).”’

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ الرِّضَا ( عليه السلام ) عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يَكُونُ بَعْضُ وُلْدِهِ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ بَعْضٍ وَ يُقَدِّمُ بَعْضَ وُلْدِهِ عَلَى بَعْضٍ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ قَدْ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) نَحَلَ مُحَمَّداً وَ فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) نَحَلَ أَحْمَدَ شَيْئاً فَقُمْتُ أَنَا بِهِ حَتَّى حُزْتُهُ لَهُفَقُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ الرَّجُلُ يَكُونُ بَنَاتُهُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ بَنِيهِ فَقَالَ الْبَنَاتُ وَ الْبَنُونَ فِي ذَلِكَ سَوَاءٌ إِنَّمَا هُوَ بِقَدْرِ مَا يُنَزِّلُهُمُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ مِنْهُ .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from Sa‘d ibn Sa‘d al-Ash‘ariy who has said the following: “I once asked al-Rida’, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the case of a man who loves certain ones of his children more than others and gives preference to certain ones among them over the others. He (the Imam) said, ‘Yes, abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, gave a present to Muhammad; so also did abu al- Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, by gifting something to Ahmad and I went to collect them for him because he was a child.’ I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, can one love his daughters more than his sons?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Sons and daughters are the same in this matter, in fact, it depends up on how they are in the sight of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.”’

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ جَمِيعاً عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ خَلِيلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْيَشْكُرِيِّ عَنْ جَمِيلِ بْنِ دَرَّاجٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِذَا كَانَ الْغُلَامُ مُلْتَاثَ الْأُدْرَةِ صَغِيرَ الذَّكَرِ سَاكِنَ النَّظَرِ فَهُوَ مِمَّنْ يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ وَ يُؤْمَنُ شَرُّهُقَالَ وَ إِذَا كَانَ الْغُلَامُ شَدِيدَ الْأُدْرَةِ كَبِيرَ الذَّكَرِ حَادَّ النَّظَرِ فَهُوَ مِمَّنْ لَا يُرْجَى خَيْرُهُ وَ يُؤْمَنُ شَرُّهُ .

    1. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from all from ibn Mahbub from Khalil ibn ‘Amr al-Yashkuriy from Jamil ibn Darraj who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ’If a boy’s scrotum is relaxed, his penis is small, his eyes are relaxed; then there is hope for goodness to come from him, as well as hope in safety from his evil. On the other hand if a boy whose scrotum is hard, his penis is large and has piercing eyes, he then is one in whose goodness there is no hope nor safety from his evil.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُنْدَارَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ الْهَمَذَانِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الشَّامِيِّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي صَالِحُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْعَبْدَ الصَّالِحَ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ تُسْتَحَبُّ عَرَامَةُ الصَّبِيِّ فِي صِغَرِهِ لِيَكُونَ حَلِيماً فِي كِبَرِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَّا هَكَذَا .

    2. Ali ibn Muhammad ibn Bandar from his father from Muhammad ibn Ali al-Hamadaniy from abu Sa‘d al-Shamiy who has said that Salih ibn ‘Uqbah narrated to me saying the following: “I heard the virtuous servant of Allah saying, ‘It is preferable to involve a child in difficult tasks when he is small, so he can be forbearing when he grows up.’ He (the Imam) then said, ‘It is not proper to be other than as such.’”

    وَ رُوِيَ أَنَّ أَكْيَسَ الصِّبْيَانِ أَشَدُّهُمْ بُغْضاً لِلْكُتَّابِ .

    3. It is narrated that:"the most intelligent child is the one who hates al-Kuttab (the writers) school the most.’”

    أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنِ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّوْفَلِيِّ مِنْ وُلْدِ نَوْفَلِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْعُمَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( صلوات الله عليه ) فِي الْمَرَضِ يُصِيبُ الصَّبِيَّ فَقَالَ كَفَّارَةٌ لِوَالِدَيْهِ .

Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from narrated from Muhammad ibn Hassan from al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Nawfaliy from children of Nawfil ibn ‘ Abd al-Muttalib, narrated to me Muhammad ibn Ja‘far from Muhammad ibn Ali ibn ‘Isa from ‘ Abd Allah al-‘ Amriy from his father from his grandfather who has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said about the illness that a child may suffer, ’It is expiation for his parents.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ وَهْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) يَعِيشُ الْوَلَدُ لِسِتَّةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَ لِسَبْعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَ لِتِسْعَةِ أَشْهُرٍ وَ لَا يَعِيشُ لِثَمَانِيَةِ أَشْهُرٍ .

A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Wahab who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ’Amir al-Mu’minin has said, ‘A child (born after) six, seven or nine months lives but one who is born after eight months cannot live.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ صَالِحِ بْنِ أَبِي حَمَّادٍ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَيَابَةَ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ غَايَةِ الْحَمْلِ بِالْوَلَدِ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ كَمْ هُوَ فَإِنَّ النَّاسَ يَقُولُونَ رُبَّمَا بَقِيَ فِي بَطْنِهَا سِنِينَ فَقَالَ كَذَبُوا أَقْصَى حَدِّ الْحَمْلِ تِسْعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ لَا يَزِيدُ لَحْظَةً وَ لَوْ زَادَ سَاعَةً لَقَتَلَ أُمَّهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ .

Ali ibn Muhammad has narrated from Salih ibn abu Hammad from Yunus ibn Ibrahim from ‘Abd al- Rahman ibn Sayabah from those who narrated to him who has said the following: “I once asked abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about how long a child can remain in the mother’s womb because people say that a child may remain in mother’s womb for many years. He (the Imam) said, ‘They speak a lie. The ultimate time is nine months and it is no more even for a while because if the child remains for more than a sa‘ah, (while), his mother will be dead before he comes out.’”

    4. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from al-Hajj al from Tha’labah from Zurarah who has said the following: “One of the two Imam, (abu Ja‘far or abu ‘Abd Allah), ‘Alayhim al-Salam, has said, ‘Al-Qabilah (the doctor) is immune and not liable.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ جَالِساً عِنْدَ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذْ دَخَلَ يُونُسُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ فَرَأَيْتُهُ يَئِنُّ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَا لِي أَرَاكَ تَئِنُّ قَالَ طِفْلٌ لِي تَأَذَّيْتُ بِهِ اللَّيْلَ أَجْمَعَفَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ آبَائِهِ ( عليهم السلام ) عَنْ جَدِّي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنَّ جَبْرَئِيلَ نَزَلَ عَلَيْهِ وَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَ عَلِيٌّ ( صلوات الله عليه ) يَئِنَّانِ فَقَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ ( عليه السلام ) يَا حَبِيبَ اللَّهِ مَا لِي أَرَاكَ تَئِنُّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) طِفْلَانِ لَنَا تَأَذَّيْنَا بِبُكَائِهِمَافَقَالَ جَبْرَئِيلُ مَهْ يَا مُحَمَّدُ فَإِنَّهُ سَيُبْعَثُ لِهَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمِ شِيعَةٌ إِذَا بَكَى أَحَدُهُمْ فَبُكَاؤُهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ إِلَى أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَلَيْهِ سَبْعُ سِنِينَ فَإِذَا جَازَ السَّبْعَ فَبُكَاؤُهُ اسْتِغْفَارٌ لِوَالِدَيْهِ إِلَى أَنْ يَأْتِيَ عَلَى الْحَدِّ فَإِذَا جَازَ الْحَدَّ فَمَا أَتَى مِنْ حَسَنَةٍ فَلِوَالِدَيْهِ وَ مَا أَتَى مِنْ سَيِّئَةٍ فَلَا عَلَيْهِمَا .

    5. Muhammad Yahya has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Ya‘qub ibn Yazid from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Once I was with abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when Yunus ibn Ya’qub came in and I found him moaning. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asked him, ‘Why are you moaning?’ He replied, ‘I have a child and I suffered last night the whole night because of him.’ Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘O Yunus, my father, Muhammad ibn Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, narrated to me from his ancestors from my great, great, great, great grandfather, the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, that Jibril came to him when he found the Messenger of Allah and Ali moaning. Jibril asked, ‘O beloved of Allah, how is it that I find you moaning?’ The Messenger of Allah replied, ‘We have two children and because of their weeping we have suffered.’ Jibril said, ‘O Muhammad, be patient. Very soon, a nation of followers for them will be raised and the weeping of one of them will mean, “No one other than Allah alone deserves worship,” up to seven years. From the age of seven onward is asking forgiveness for their parents until they become of age (of maturity). Thereafter, whatever good deeds they do will be for their parents and whatever bad deeds they do will not be against their parents.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ حَمْدَانَ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ كَانَ لِيَ ابْنٌ وَ كَانَ تُصِيبُهُ الْحَصَاةُ فَقِيلَ لِي لَيْسَ لَهُ عِلَاجٌ إِلَّا أَنْ تَبُطَّهُ فَبَطَطْتُهُ فَمَاتَ فَقَالَتِ الشِّيعَةُ شَرِكْتَ فِي دَمِ ابْنِكَقَالَ فَكَتَبْتُ إِلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْعَسْكَرِيِّ ( عليه السلام ) فَوَقَّعَ ( عليه السلام ) يَا أَحْمَدُ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكَ فِيمَا فَعَلْتَ شَيْ‏ءٌ إِنَّمَا الْتَمَسْتَ الدَّوَاءَ وَ كَانَ أَجَلُهُ فِيمَا فَعَلْتَ .

    6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy from Hamdan ibn Ishaq who has said the following: “I had a son who had bladder (kidney) stone and it was said to me that it has no medicine except operating and I operated, then the child died. The Shi’ah said, ‘You have caused the death of your son. I then wrote to abu al-Hassan al-‘Askariy, ‘Alayhi al-Salam. He (the Imam) signed the answer that said, ‘O Ahmad, you are not responsible for what you have done. You tried to cure him and his death (the appointed time) was in what you did.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ السِّمْطِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) إِذَا بَلَغَ الصَّبِيُّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ فَاحْجُمْهُ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فِي النُّقْرَةِ فَإِنَّهَا تُجَفِّفُ لُعَابَهُ وَ تُهْبِطُ الْحَرَارَةَ مِنْ رَأْسِهِ وَ جَسَدِهِ .

    7. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘ Abd Allah ibn Jundab from Sufyan ibn al- Simt who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to me, ‘When a child becomes four months old then perform cupping every month in the depression in the back of the child; it reduces his saliva and the temperature from his head.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ قَالَ أَصَابَ رَجُلٌ غُلَامَيْنِ فِي بَطْنٍ فَهَنَّأَهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّهُمَا الْأَكْبَرُ فَقَالَ الَّذِي خَرَجَ أَوَّلًا فَقَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) الَّذِي خَرَجَ آخِراً هُوَ أَكْبَرُ أَ مَا تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهَا حَمَلَتْ بِذَاكَ أَوَّلًا وَ إِنَّ هَذَا دَخَلَ عَلَى ذَاكَ فَلَمْ يُمْكِنْهُ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ حَتَّى خَرَجَ هَذَا فَالَّذِي يَخْرُجُ آخِراً هُوَ أَكْبَرُهُمَا .

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ali ibn Ahmad ibn ‘Ushaym from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Twin boys were born to a man and abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, congratulated and asked him who is the older?’ He replied, ‘The one who came out first is the older one. Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘No, the one who came out last is the older one because she conceived him first, and this one entered on him and he could not come out before he came out so the one who comes out last is the older one.’”
