   الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَمَّنْ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ طَيْفُورٍ الْمُتَطَبِّبِ قَالَ سَأَلَنِي أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) أَيَّ شَيْ‏ءٍ تَرْكَبُ قُلْتُ حِمَاراً فَقَالَ بِكَمِ ابْتَعْتَهُ قُلْتُ بِثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ دِينَاراً فَقَالَ إِنَّ هَذَا هُوَ السَّرَفُ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ حِمَاراً بِثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ دِينَاراً وَ تَدَعَ بِرْذَوْناً قُلْتُ يَا سَيِّدِي إِنَّ مَئُونَةَ الْبِرْذَوْنِ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ مَئُونَةِ الْحِمَارِ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِنَّ الَّذِي يَمُونُ الْحِمَارَ يَمُونُ الْبِرْذَوْنَ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ مَنِ ارْتَبَطَ دَابَّةً مُتَوَقِّعاً بِهِ أَمْرَنَا وَ يَغِيظُ بِهِ عَدُوَّنَا وَ هُوَ مَنْسُوبٌ إِلَيْنَا أَدَرَّ اللَّهُ رِزْقَهُ وَ شَرَحَ صَدْرَهُ وَ بَلَّغَهُ أَمَلَهُ وَ كَانَ عَوْناً عَلَى حَوَائِجِهِ .

   1. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from those who narrated to him from ibn Tayfur al-Mutatabbib who has said the following: “Once abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, asked me, ‘What do you ride?’ I replied, ‘It is a donkey.’ He (the Imam) asked, ‘For how much have you bought it?’ I replied, ‘I have bought it for thirteen dinars.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘This is improper spending. You have bought a donkey for thirteen dinar and ignored buying a mule.’ I then said, ‘My master, maintenance of a mule is more than that for a donkey.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The one who maintains a donkey maintains a mule also. Did you not know that if one rides a stumper expecting our cause to materialize and makes our enemies feel jealous because he is counted on us, Allah manages his affairs, opens his chest, makes his wishes to come true and He is a helper in his affairs.’”

   مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جُنْدَبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ تِسْعَةُ أَعْشَارِ الرِّزْقِ مَعَ صَاحِبِ الدَّابَّةِ .

   2. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-Husayn from Muhammad ibn Sinan from ‘Abd Allah ibn Jundab has said that narrated to him certain persons of our people who have said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Nine-tenths of sustenance is with the owner of a stumper.’”

   عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ وَ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أَهْدَى أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَرْبَعَةَ أَفْرَاسٍ مِنَ الْيَمَنِ فَقَالَ سَمِّهَا لِي فَقَالَ هِيَ أَلْوَانٌ مُخْتَلِفَةٌ قَالَ فَفِيهَا وَضَحٌ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ فِيهَا أَشْقَرُ بِهِ وَضَحٌ قَالَ فَأَمْسِكْهُ عَلَيَّقَالَ وَ فِيهَا كُمَيْتَانِ أَوْضَحَانِ فَقَالَ أَعْطِهِمَا ابْنَيْكَ قَالَ وَ الرَّابِعُ أَدْهَمُ بَهِيمٌ قَالَ بِعْهُ وَ اسْتَخْلِفْ بِهِ نَفَقَةً لِعِيَالِكَ إِنَّمَا يُمْنُ الْخَيْلِ فِي ذَوَاتِ الْأَوْضَاحِقَالَ وَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ كَرِهْنَا الْبَهِيمَ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ كُلِّهَا إِلَّا الْحِمَارَ وَ الْبَغْلَ وَ كَرِهْتُ شِيَةَ الْأَوْضَاحِ فِي الْحِمَارِ وَ الْبَغْلِ الْأَلْوَنِ وَ كَرِهْتُ الْقُرْحَ فِي الْبَغْلِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ بِهِ غُرَّةٌ سَائِلَةٌ وَ لَا أَشْتَهِيهَا عَلَى حَالٍ .

   3. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad and Ahmad ibn Muhammad all from ibn Bukayr ibn Salih from Sulayman al-Ja‘fariy who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, sent as present to the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause. It comprised of four horses from Yemen. He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, ‘Describe them for me.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘They are of different colors.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) asked, ‘Has anyone of them bright spots?’ He (the Imam) replied, ‘There is a blond more toward redness among them which has bright spots on it.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Keep it for me.’ He (the Imam) said there are two blonds more toward yellowness which have bright spots on them.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Give these to your sons.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘The fourth one is of one color all over without spots on it.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘Sell it for the expenses of your family. The good fortune in horses is in those with bright spots on them.’ I heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘We dislike all animals of one color, all over except donkeys and mules; and I dislike bright-hooved donkeys and mules of many colors. I dislike a white spot on the forehead of a mule unless it has expanded, however, I do not have the desires for it with such condition.’”

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رِئَابٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) اشْتَرِ دَابَّةً فَإِنَّ مَنْفَعَتَهَا لَكَ وَ رِزْقَهَا عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ .

   4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Ali ibn Ri’ab who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Buy a stumper; its benefit is for you and its sustenance with Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’”

   عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ الرَّقِّيِّ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) مَنِ اشْتَرَى دَابَّةً كَانَ لَهُ ظَهْرُهَا وَ عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا .

   5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Husayn from Ja‘far ibn Bashir from Dawud al- Riqqiy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If one buys a stumper, he has the benefit of riding and its sustenance is with Allah.’”

   سَهْلُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) اتَّخِذْ حِمَاراً يَحْمِلْ رَحْلَكَ فَإِنَّ رِزْقَهُ عَلَى اللَّهِقَالَ فَاتَّخَذْتُ حِمَاراً وَ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَ يُوسُفُ أَخِي إِذَا تَمَّتِ السَّنَةُ حَسَبْنَا نَفَقَاتِنَا فَنَعْلَمُ مِقْدَارَهَا فَحَسَبْنَا بَعْدَ شِرَاءِ الْحِمَارِ نَفَقَاتِنَا فَإِذَا هِيَ كَمَا كَانَتْ فِي كُلِّ عَامٍ لَمْ تَزِدْ شَيْئاً .

   6. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Walid from Yunus ibn Ya’qub who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said, ‘Buy a donkey which will carry your luggage and its sustenance is with Allah/ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then found a donkey. Yunus, my brother and I at the end of the year would do our accounts and we found that there was no difference in our budget and no increase over the expenses of other years.’”

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَمَاعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مَرْوَانَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الْمُؤْمِنِ دَابَّةٌ يَرْكَبُهَا فِي حَوَائِجِهِ وَ يَقْضِي عَلَيْهَا حُقُوقَ إِخْوَانِهِ .

   7. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Muhammad ibn Sama‘ah from Muhammad ibn Marwan who has said the following: “It is of the good fortune of a believing person to have a stumper that he can ride to meet his own needs and the needs of his brothers (in belief).”’

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مِنْ سَعَادَةِ الْمَرْءِ الْمُسْلِمِ الْمَرْكَبُ الْهَنِي‏ءُ .

   8. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘It is of the good fortune of a Muslim man to have a healthy stumper.’”

   عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَ عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ جَمِيعاً عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ زِيَادٍ الْقَنْدِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) اتَّخِذُوا الدَّابَّةَ فَإِنَّهَا زَيْنٌ وَ تُقْضَى عَلَيْهَا الْحَوَائِجُ وَ رِزْقُهَا عَلَى اللَّهِ جَلَّ ذِكْرُهُ .قَالَ وَ حَدَّثَنِي بِهِ عَمَّارُ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ وَ زَادَ فِيهِ وَ تَلْقَى عَلَيْهَا إِخْوَانَكَ .وَ رُوِيَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ عَجَبٌ لِصَاحِبِ الدَّابَّةِ كَيْفَ تَفُوتُهُ الْحَاجَةُ .

   9. Ali ibn Ibrahim a number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad all from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from Ziyad al-Qandiy from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘You must have a stumper; it is of beautification and helps meet one’s needs and its sustenance is with Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.’ He (the narrator) has said that narrated to me ‘Ammar ibn al-Mubarak with the addition of ‘and ride it to meet your brothers (in belief).’ It is also narrated that he (the Imam) said, ‘How can one who has a stumper miss fulfilling his needs?”’

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي الْبِلَادِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مِنْ شَقَاءِ الْعَيْشِ الْمَرْكَبُ السَّوْءُ .

    10. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from certain persons of his people from Ibrahim ibn abu al-Balad from Ali ibn al-Mughirah who has said the following: “Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is a misfortune in life to have a bad stumper.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لِلدَّابَّةِ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا سِتَّةُ حُقُوقٍ لَا يُحَمِّلُهَا فَوْقَ طَاقَتِهَا وَ لَا يَتَّخِذُ ظَهْرَهَا مَجَالِسَ يَتَحَدَّثُ عَلَيْهَا وَ يَبْدَأُ بِعَلْفِهَا إِذَا نَزَلَ وَ لَا يَسِمُهَا وَ لَا يَضْرِبُهَا فِي وَجْهِهَا فَإِنَّهَا تُسَبِّحُ وَ يَعْرِضُ عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ إِذَا مَرَّ بِهِ .

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from af-Nawfafiy from af-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘ Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘A stumper has six rights on its owner. He must not load more than its power. He must not take its back as a meeting place to keep talking from there. He must feed it as soon as he disembarks, must not mark it with burns, or hit it on its face because it says Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) and offer it water whenever passing by water.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ أَبِي الْمَغْرَاءِ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ خَالِدٍ قَالَ فِيمَا أَظُنُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ رُئِيَ أَبُو ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَسْقِي حِمَاراً بِالرَّبَذَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ أَ مَا لَكَ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ مَنْ يَكْفِيكَ سَقْيَ الْحِمَارِ فَقَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) يَقُولُ مَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ إِلَّا وَ هِيَ تَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ كُلَّ صَبَاحٍ اللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي مَلِيكاً صَالِحاً يُشْبِعُنِي مِنَ الْعَلَفِ وَ يُرْوِينِي مِنَ الْمَاءِ وَ لَا يُكَلِّفُنِي فَوْقَ طَاقَتِي فَأَنَا أُحِبُّ أَنْ أَسْقِيَهُ بِنَفْسِي .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from abu al-Mighra’ from Sulayman ibn Khalid who has said the following as I thing from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that abu Dharr was seen offering water to a donkey at al- Rabadhah and certain people said to him, ‘O abu Dharr do you not have someone who can offer water to your donkey?’ He said, ‘I once heard the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, saying, “Every stumper asks Allah every morning, ‘O Lord, grant me an owner who will feed me sufficiently of feed, offer me water, will not load me more than my power.’” For this reason I personally offer it water.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ طَرْخَانَ النَّخَّاسِ قَالَ مَرَرْتُ بِأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ قَدْ نَزَلَ الْحِيرَةَ فَقَالَ لِي مَا عِلَاجُكَ قُلْتُ نَخَّاسٌ فَقَالَ أَصِبْ لِي بَغْلَةً فَضْحَاءَ قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ وَ مَا الْفَضْحَاءُ قَالَ دَهْمَاءُ بَيْضَاءُ الْبَطْنِ بَيْضَاءُ الْأَفْحَاجِ بَيْضَاءُ الْجَحْفَلَةِ قَالَ فَقُلْتُ وَ اللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ هَذِهِ الصِّفَةِفَرَجَعْتُ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ فَسَاعَةً دَخَلْتُ الْخَنْدَقَ إِذَا أَنَا غُلَامٌ قَدْ أَشْفَى عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ عَلَى هَذَا الصِّفَةِ فَسَأَلْتُ الْغُلَامَ لِمَنْ هَذِهِ الْبَغْلَةُ فَقَالَ لِمَوْلَايَ قُلْتُ يَبِيعُهَا قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي فَتَبِعْتُهُ حَتَّى أَتَيْتُ مَوْلَاهُ فَاشْتَرَيْتُهَا مِنْهُ وَ أَتَيْتُهُ بِهَا فَقَالَ هَذِهِ الصِّفَةُ الَّتِي أَرَدْتُهَا قُلْتُ جُعِلْتُ فِدَاكَ ادْعُ اللَّهَ لِي فَقَالَ أَكْثَرَ اللَّهُ مَالَكَ وَ وَلَدَكَ قَالَ فَصِرْتُ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ مَالًا وَ وَلَداً .

    3. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Tarkhan al-Nakhkhas who has said the following: “I once visited abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, when he had disembarked in al-Hirah and asked me, ‘What do you do for a living?’ I replied, ‘I trade in animals.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘Find for me a mule which is Fadha ’.’ I then asked saying, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, what is Fadha’?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘It is of one color except for its white belly, white thighs of the back legs and of white harness area.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I said, by Allah I have not seen any mule as such.’ After (a while), I entered the ditch and saw a slave riding a mule of such description. I asked, ‘Whose mule is this?’ The slave said that it belongs to his master. I then asked, ‘Does he sell it?’ He said, ‘I do not know.’ I went to his master, bought it from him, and brought it to him (the Imam). He (the Imam) said, ‘This mule is of the qualities that I had asked for.’ I then said, ‘I pray to Allah to keep my soul in service for your cause, pray for me before Allah.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘O Allah, grant him a great deal of assets and children.’ He (the narrator) has said, ‘I then became the wealthiest of the people of al-Kufah as well in terms of children.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تَضْرِبُوا الدَّوَابَّ عَلَى وُجُوهِهَا فَإِنَّهَا تُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ .قَالَ وَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ لَا تَسِمُوهَا فِي وُجُوهِهَا .

    4. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Muhammad ibn Muslim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must not hit the stumpers on their faces; they say Tasbih (Allah is free of all defects) with Tahmid, (all praise belongs to Allah).’ He (the narrator) has said that in another Hadith it is said, ‘You must not make burn marks on their faces.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا عَثَرَتِ الدَّابَّةُ تَحْتَ الرَّجُلِ فَقَالَ لَهَا تَعَسْتِ تَقُولُ تَعَسَ أَعْصَانَا لِلرَّبِّ.

    5. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad ibn Yasar from ‘Ubayd Allah al-Dihqan from Durust who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘When a stumper stumbles and man riding it says, ‘May you be destroyed.’ The stumper says, ‘May the one of us who is most disobedient to the Lord be destroyed.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْجَعْفَرِيِّ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ الصَّادِقَ ( عليه السلام ) مَتَى أَضْرِبُ دَابَّتِي تَحْتِي فَقَالَ إِذَا لَمْ تَمْشِ تَحْتَكَ كَمَشْيَتِهَا إِلَى مِذْوَدِهَا .

    6. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Ja‘fariy in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “I once asked al-Sadiq, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘When can I hit my stumper?’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You can do so when you are riding and it does not walk as it does when going to its manger, its feeding place.’”

    وَ رُوِيَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنَّهُ قَالَ اضْرِبُوهَا عَلَى النِّفَارِ وَ لَا تَضْرِبُوهَا عَلَى الْعِثَارِ .

    7. It is narrated from the Holy Prophet, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, who has said:‘You may hit your stumpers for running away in fright but not because of their stumbling.’”

    حُمَيْدُ بْنُ زِيَادٍ عَنِ الْخَشَّابِ عَنِ ابْنِ بَقَّاحٍ عَنْ مُعَاذٍ الْجَوْهَرِيِّ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا تَتَوَرَّكُوا عَلَى الدَّوَابِّ وَ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا ظُهُورَهَا مَجَالِسَ .

    8. Humayd ibn Ziyad has narrated from al-Khashshab from ibn Baqqah from Mu‘adh al-Jawhariy from ‘Amr ibn Jumay‘ who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has stated this Hadith. ‘The Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must not sit on the stumper with both legs hanging from one side (causing imbalance) or make its back a meeting place (talking to someone with the stumper halted and kept on hold).”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ قَالَ كَانَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ مَا بَهِمَتِ الْبَهَائِمُ فَلَمْ تُبْهَمْ عَنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالرَّبِّ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْمَوْتِ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْأُنْثَى مِنَ الذَّكَرِ وَ مَعْرِفَتِهَا بِالْمَرْعَى عَنِ الْخِصْبِ .

    9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu Hamzah who has said the following: “Ali ibn al-Husayn, Alayhim al-Salam, would say, ‘Animals, no matter how unintelligent and dubious they may be, are not so in four issues: One is knowing the Lord, death, male and female, and what is a pasture and what is a barren land.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّوْفَلِيِّ عَنِ السَّكُونِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ لِكُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ حُرْمَةٌ وَ حُرْمَةُ الْبَهَائِمِ فِي وُجُوهِهَا .

    10. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from al-Nawfaliy from al-Sakuniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Everything has honor. The honor of animals is in their faces.’”

    أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ عَنِ الْحَجَّالِ وَ ابْنِ فَضَّالٍ عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ مَهْمَا أُبْهِمَ عَلَى الْبَهَائِمِ مِنْ شَيْ‏ءٍ فَلَا يُبْهَمُ عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعَةُ خِصَالٍ مَعْرِفَةُ أَنَّ لَهَا خَالِقاً وَ مَعْرِفَةُ طَلَبِ الرِّزْقِ وَ مَعْرِفَةُ الذَّكَرِ مِنَ الْأُنْثَى وَ مَخَافَةُ الْمَوْتِ .

    11. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from al-Hajj al and ibn Faddal from Tha’labah, from Ya‘qub ibn Salim from a man who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘No matter how unintelligent the animals may be, they are not so about four issues. They know that they have a Creator, they know how to find sustenance, they know male and female and they are afraid of death.’”

    12. Sahl ibn Ziyad has narrated from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from al-Asamm from Misma‘ ibn ‘Abd al-Malik who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You may hit your stumpers for their running away in fright, but do not do so for their stumbling.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ جَدِّهِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ عَلَى كُلِّ مَنْخِرٍ مِنَ الدَّوَابِّ شَيْطَانٌ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يُلْجِمَهَا فَلْيُسَمِّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ .

    13. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from al-Qasim ibn Yahya from his grandfather al-Hassan ibn Rashid from Ya’qub ibn Ja’far who has said the following: “I once heard abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ’In the nostrils of every stumper there is a Satan. When you want to harness them you must say, “In the name of Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious.”’”

    أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنِ ابْنِ رِئَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا ( عليهما السلام ) قَالَ أَيُّمَا دَابَّةٍ اسْتَصْعَبَتْ عَلَى صَاحِبِهَا مِنْ لِجَامٍ وَ نِفَارٍ فَلْيَقْرَأْ فِي أُذُنِهَا أَوْ عَلَيْهَا أَ فَغَيْرَ دِينِ اللَّهِ يَبْغُونَ وَ لَهُ أَسْلَمَ مَنْ فِي السَّماواتِ وَ الْأَرْضِ طَوْعاً وَ كَرْهاً وَ إِلَيْهِ يُرْجَعُونَ .

    14. Ahmad ibn Muhammad has narrated from ibn Mahbub from ibn Ri’ab from abu ‘Ubaydah from one of the two Imam, (abu Ja’far or abu ‘ Abd Allah) who has said the following: “If any stumper becomes difficult with the owner in harnessing or running away in fright, he must read in its ear or on it, ‘Do you want something other than the religion of Allah, when all who are in the skies and earth are submitted to Him voluntarily, or by force and to Him they all return.’ (3:83)”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( صلوات الله عليه ) إِنَّ مِنَ الْحَقِّ أَنْ يَقُولَ الرَّاكِبُ لِلْمَاشِي الطَّرِيقَ .وَ فِي نُسْخَةٍ أُخْرَى إِنَّ مِنَ الْجَوْرِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الرَّاكِبُ لِلْمَاشِي الطَّرِيقَ .

    15. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn Salim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘It is a matter of rights that a person riding say to the one walking, ‘the road ’ (meaning please open the road, to inform him of his presence).’ In another copy it is said that a rider saying to one walking ‘the road ’ is of injustice.’”

    وَ بِإِسْنَادِهِ قَالَ خَرَجَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( عليه السلام ) وَ هُوَ رَاكِبٌ فَمَشَوْا مَعَهُ فَقَالَ أَ لَكُمْ حَاجَةٌ قَالُوا لَا وَ لَكِنَّا نُحِبُّ أَنْ نَمْشِيَ مَعَكَ فَقَالَ لَهُمُ انْصَرِفُوا فَإِنَّ مَشْيَ الْمَاشِي مَعَ الرَّاكِبِ مَفْسَدَةٌ لِلرَّاكِبِ وَ مَذَلَّةٌ لِلْمَاشِي .

    16. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “Once ’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, came out riding and people walked with him. He (the Imam) asked, ‘Do you need me for something?’ They replied, ‘No, but we love to walk with you.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must go back; walking with a rider is harmful for the rider and humiliation for the walking people.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنِ الدِّهْقَانِ عَنْ دُرُسْتَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْحَمِيدِ عَنْ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِذَا رَكِبَ الرَّجُلُ الدَّابَّةَ فَسَمَّى رَدِفَهُ مَلَكٌ يَحْفَظُهُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ وَ إِذَا رَكِبَ وَ لَمْ يُسَمِّ رَدِفَهُ شَيْطَانٌ فَيَقُولُ لَهُ تَغَنَّ فَإِنْ قَالَ لَهُ لَا أُحْسِنُ قَالَ لَهُ تَمَنَّ فَلَا يَزَالُ يَتَمَنَّى حَتَّى يَنْزِلَوَ قَالَ مَنْ قَالَ إِذَا رَكِبَ الدَّابَّةَ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدانا لِهذا الْآيَةَ وَ سُبْحانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنا هذا وَ ما كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ حُفِظَتْ لَهُ نَفْسُهُ وَ دَابَّتُهُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ .

    17. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Isa from al-Dihqan from Durust from Ibrahim ibn ‘Abd al-Hamid who has said the following: “Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has stated this Hadith. ‘If one rides his stumper and mentions the name of Allah, an angel sits behind him to protect him until he disembarks; but if one rides his stumper without mentioning the name of Allah, a Satan sits behind him and says to him to sing. If he says, ‘I do not know singing.’ He says, ‘Wish that you could sing.’ He then continues wishing until he disembarks.’ He (the Messenger of Allah) has said, ‘If one says, “In the name of Allah, there is no means and power without Allah, all praise belongs to Allah who has guided us to this. . . .” (7:43) Then he reads, “Glory belongs to the One who has made this subservient to us when we could not bring it together,” (43:13) he and his stumper will be protected until he disembarks.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَوْ غَيْرُهُ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ خَرَجَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَ مَعَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ فَبَصُرَ بِأَبِي الْحَسَنِ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) مُقْبِلًا رَاكِباً بَغْلًا فَقَالَ لِمَنْ مَعَهُ مَكَانَكُمْ حَتَّى أُضْحِكَكُمْ مِنْ مُوسَى بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ فَلَمَّا دَنَا مِنْهُ قَالَ لَهُ مَا هَذِهِ الدَّابَّةُ الَّتِي لَا تُدْرِكُ عَلَيْهَا الثَّأْرَ وَ لَا تَصْلُحُ عِنْدَ النِّزَالِ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) تَطَأْطَأَتْ عَنْ سُمُوِّ الْخَيْلِ وَ تَجَاوَزَتْ قُمُوءَ الْعَيْرِ وَ خَيْرُ الْأُمُورِ أَوْسَطُهَا فَأُفْحِمَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ فَمَا أَحَارَ جَوَاباً .

    18. Ali ibn Ibrahim and others in a marfu‘ manner has narrated the following: “Once ‘Abd al-Samad came out with a group of people and he saw abu al-Hassan, Musa ibn Ja‘far, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, coming from the opposite direction on a mule. He then said to those with him, ‘Wait until I will make you laugh at Musa ibn Ja‘far.’ When close nearby he said, ‘What good is this stumper with which one cannot achieve any compensation for his losses and it is not of any use in a warfare struggle?’ Abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said, ‘I have come down from the height of the horse and stepped up from lowliness of donkeys and the best of things is that which is of the middle and balanced status.’ ‘Abd al-Samad remained speechless and could not phrase any response.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَسْبَاطٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ قَالَ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ( صلوات الله عليه ) قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لَا يَرْتَدِفْ ثَلَاثَةٌ عَلَى دَابَّةٍ فَإِنَّ أَحَدَهُمْ مَلْعُونٌ .

    19. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah A number of his people from Ali ibn Asbat from his uncle Ya’qub ibn Salim in a marfu‘ manner has said the following: “’Amir al-Mu’minin, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, Three people must not ride one stumper, one behind the other, because one of them is condemned.”’

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from certain persons of his people who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘The saddle is a condemned riding thing for women.”’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عِيسَى عَنْ سَمَاعَةَ قَالَ سُئِلَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) عَنْ جُلُودِ السِّبَاعِ فَقَالَ ارْكَبُوهَا وَ لَا تَلْبَسُوا شَيْئاً مِنْهَا تُصَلُّونَ فِيهِ .

    2. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from ‘Uthman ibn ‘Isa from Sama‘ah who has said the following: “Once abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, was asked about the skins of beasts. He (the Imam) said, ‘You can use them when riding but you must not use them during performing Salat (prayer).”’

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنِ الْعَمْرَكِيِّ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ عَنْ أَخِيهِ أَبِي الْحَسَنِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَأَلْتُهُ عَنِ السَّرْجِ وَ اللِّجَامِ فِيهِ الْفِضَّةُ أَ يُرْكَبُ بِهِ فَقَالَ إِنْ كَانَ مُمَوَّهاً لَا يُقْدَرُ عَلَى نَزْعِهِ فَلَا بَأْسَ وَ إِلَّا فَلَا تَرْكَبْ بِهِ .

    3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from al-‘Amrakiy ibn Ali from Ali ibn Ja‘far from his brother abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, who has said the following: “I once asked abu al-Hassan, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, about the saddle and the rein in which silver is used; if it can be used. He (the Imam) said, ‘If it is in a whitewashing (painted) form which cannot be removed, then it is not harmful, otherwise, you must not ride with it.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ حَنَانِ بْنِ سَدِيرٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) لِعَلِيٍّ ( عليه السلام ) إِيَّاكَ أَنْ تَرْكَبَ مِيثَرَةً حَمْرَاءَ فَإِنَّهَا مِيثَرَةُ إِبْلِيسَ .

    4. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn ’Isma‘il from his father from Hanan ibn Sadir who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, once said to Ali, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, ‘You must never use a red saddlecloth; it is the saddlecloth of Satan.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى الْمَدِينِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) أَنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) كَانَ يَرْكَبُ عَلَى قَطِيفَةٍ حَمْرَاءَ .

    5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from Muhammad ibn Ali from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn abu Hashim from Ibrahim ibn abu Yahya al-Madiniy who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, rode on a piece of marigold red color cloth.’”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ شَمُّونٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ مِسْمَعِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ كَانَتْ بُرَةُ نَاقَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) مِنْ فِضَّةٍ .

    6. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Muhammad ibn al-Hassan ibn Shammun from ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman from Misma‘ ibn ‘Abd al-Malik who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the ring in the nostrils of the camel of the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, was made of silver.’”

    عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِنَّ عَلِيَّ بْنَ الْحُسَيْنِ ( عليه السلام ) كَانَ لَيَبْتَاعُ الرَّاحِلَةَ بِمِائَةِ دِينَارٍ يُكْرِمُ بِهَا نَفْسَهُ .

    1. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from ‘ Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, bought a stumper for one hundred dinar in his own honor.”

    2. Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from al-Hajj al from Safwan al-Jammal who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Had people known the fact of how Allah gives strength to the weak to carry the load, carry-animals would not become expensive.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى عَنْ غِيَاثِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) إِنَّ عَلَى ذِرْوَةِ كُلِّ بَعِيرٍ شَيْطَاناً فَامْتَهِنُوهَا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَ ذَلِّلُوهَا وَ اذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّمَا يَحْمِلُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ .

    3. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Muhammad ibn Yahya from Ghiyath ibn Ibrahim who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has stated this Hadith. ‘On the peak of every camel there is a Satan and you must degrade him before yourselves by mentioning the name of Allah, only Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious is He who carries loads.’”

    4. Ali ibn Ibrahim has narrated from his father from ibn abu ‘Umayr from Hisham ibn al-Hakam who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘Had the pilgrim to Makkah known what carries his load, camel would not become expensive.’”

    5. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn abu ‘Abd Allah from his father from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr from Sulayman al-Rahhal from ibn abu Ya‘fur who has said the following: “Once, abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, passed by me and I was walking next to my camel. He (the Imam) asked, ‘Why are you not riding?’ I replied, ‘My camel has become weak, thus I decided to provide it relief.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘May Allah grant you blessings. Ride your camel, Allah carries for both the weak and the strong.’”

    عَنْهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَمَّنْ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) أَنْ يُتَخَطَّى الْقِطَارُ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَ لِمَ قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ مِنْ قِطَارٍ إِلَّا وَ مَا بَيْنَ الْبَعِيرِ إِلَى الْبَعِيرِ شَيْطَانٌ .

    6. It is narrated from the narrator of the previous Hadith from his father from those whom he has mentioned who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, prohibited to cross and intersect the row of camels. Someone asked, ‘Why is this, O Messenger of Allah?’ He (the Messenger of Allah) said, ‘In every row of camels between every two camels there is a Satan.’”

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَحْبُوبٍ عَنْ حُسَيْنِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ اشْتَرَيْتُ إِبِلًا وَ أَنَا بِالْمَدِينَةِ مُقِيمٌ فَأَعْجَبَنِي إِعْجَاباً شَدِيداً فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى أَبِي الْحَسَنِ الْأَوَّلِ ( عليه السلام ) فَذَكَرْتُهَا لَهُ فَقَالَ مَا لَكَ وَ لِلْإِبِلِ أَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّهَا كَثِيرَةُ الْمَصَائِبِقَالَ فَمِنْ إِعْجَابِي بِهَا أَكْرَيْتُهَا وَ بَعَثْتُ بِهَا مَعَ غِلْمَانٍ لِي إِلَى الْكُوفَةِ قَالَ فَسَقَطَتْ كُلُّهَا فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذابٌ أَلِيمٌ .

    7. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Mahbub from Husayn ibn ‘Umar ibn Yazid from his father who has said the following: “I once bought a camel, when I was living in al-Madinah, and I liked it very intensely. I then visited Ali ibn al-Husayn, ‘Alayhim al-Salam, and mentioned it to him. He (the Imam) said, ‘What do you have to do with camels? Did you not know that camels have many troubles?’ Because of my happiness with it I gave it for hire with two of my slaves to al-Kufah. He (the narrator) has said that all of them fell. I then visited him (the Imam) and informed him about what had happened. He (the Imam) said, ‘. . . thus, those who oppose His commands must remain afraid of being afflicted by mischief or painful suffering.’ (24:63)”

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ عَنِ الْحَجَّالِ عَنْ صَفْوَانَ الْجَمَّالِ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَا صَفْوَانُ اشْتَرِ لِي جَمَلًا وَ خُذْهُ أَشْوَهَ فَإِنَّهُ أَطْوَلُ شَيْ‏ءٍ أَعْمَاراً فَاشْتَرَيْتُ لَهُ جَمَلًا بِثَمَانِينَ دِرْهَماً فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِهِ .وَ فِي حَدِيثٍ آخَرَ قَالَ اشْتَرِ السُّودَ الْقِبَاحَ فَإِنَّهَا أَطْوَلُ شَيْ‏ءٍ أَعْمَاراً .

    8. A number of our people have narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Khalid from al-Hajj al from Safwan al-Jammal who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said, ‘Buy a camel for me, an ugly looking one, because it lives longer.’ I then bought for him (the Imam) a camel for eighty dirham and brought it to him (the Imam).” In another Hadith it is said that he (the Imam) said, ‘Buy the black and ugly looking one because it lives longer.’

    عِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِنَا عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَدَّاحِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) وَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) إِلَى أَرْضِ طِيبَةَ وَ مَعَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ وَ أُنَاسٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ فَأَقَمْنَا بِطِيبَةَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَ رَكِبَ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) عَلَى جَمَلٍ صَعْبٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَمْرُو بْنُ دِينَارٍ مَا أَصْعَبَ بَعِيرَكَ فَقَالَ أَ وَ مَا عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ( صلى الله عليه وآله ) قَالَ إِنَّ عَلَى ذِرْوَةِ كُلِّ بَعِيرٍ شَيْطَاناً فَامْتَهِنُوهَا وَ ذَلِّلُوهَا وَ اذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّمَا يَحْمِلُ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ دَخَلَ مَكَّةَ وَ دَخَلْنَا مَعَهُ بِغَيْرِ إِحْرَامٍ .

    9. A number of our people have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ja‘far ibn Muhammad from ibn al-Qaddah from abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, and from his father Maymun who has said the following: “Once we left with abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, to Ard of Taybah (name of a place between Makkah and al-Madinah) and ‘Amr ibn Dinar was with him (the Imam) as well as other ones of his people. We stopped at Taybah as long as Allah willed, and abu Ja‘far rode a difficult camel. ‘Amr ibn Dinar said, ‘Your camel is very difficult.’ He (the Imam) said, ‘You must take notice that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said the following. ‘On the peak of every camel there is a Satan, so you must degrade and make him lowly by mentioning the name of Allah on it because He is Allah who carries loads.’ He (the Imam) then entered Makkah and we also entered Makkah without assuming the state of Ihram (because of entering before the passing of a month from his previous Ihram).”’

    مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ السِّنْدِيِّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ عَنْ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ إِيَّاكُمْ وَ الْإِبِلَ الْحُمْرَ فَإِنَّهَا أَقْصَرُ الْإِبِلِ أَعْمَاراً .

    10. Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ahmad ibn Ali al-Sindiy from Muhammad ibn ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id from a man from ibn abu Ya‘fur who has said the following: “I once heard abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Beware of red camels because the life of such camels is the shortest.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سِنَانٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ اخْتَارَ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْ‏ءٍ شَيْئاً اخْتَارَ مِنَ الْإِبِلِ النَّاقَةَ وَ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ الضَّائِنَةَ .

    11. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “I once heard abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, saying, ‘Allah, most Majestic, most Glorious, has chosen something from everything and from camels, He has chosen she-camels and from sheep He has chosen ewes.’”

    الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ مُعَلَّى بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنِ الْوَشَّاءِ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ قَالَ لِي أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) يَا بُنَيَّ اتَّخِذِ الْغَنَمَ وَ لَا تَتَّخِذِ الْإِبِلَ .

    1. Al-Husayn ibn Muhammad has narrated from Mu‘alla’ ibn Muhammad from al-Washsha’ from Ishaq ibn Ja‘far who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, once said to me, ‘Son, keep sheep but do not keep camels.’”

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from Ali ibn al-Hakam from ‘Amr ibn Aban who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘The best asset is sheep.’”

Abu Ali al-Ash‘ariy has narrated from al-Hassan ibn Ali from ‘Ubays ibn Hisham from ‘Abd Allah ibn Sinan who has said the following: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said that the Messenger of Allah, O Allah, grant compensation to Muhammad and his family worthy of their services to Your cause, has said, ‘You must clean the fold of the sheep and dust from them.’”

    وَ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ( عليه السلام ) قَالَ إِذَا اتَّخَذَ أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ شَاةً أَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ بِرِزْقِهَا وَ زَادَ فِي أَرْزَاقِهِمْ وَ ارْتَحَلَ الْفَقْرُ عَنْهُمْ مَرْحَلَةً فَإِنِ اتَّخَذَ شَاتَيْنِ أَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ بِأَرْزَاقِهِمَا وَ زَادَ فِي أَرْزَاقِهِمْ وَ ارْتَحَلَ الْفَقْرُ عَنْهُمْ مَرْحَلَتَيْنِ فَإِنِ اتَّخَذُوا ثَلَاثَةً أَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ بِأَرْزَاقِهِمْ وَ ارْتَحَلَ الْفَقْرُ عَنْهُمْ رَأْساً .

    4. Through the same chain of narrators as that of the previous Hadith the following is narrated: “Abu ‘Abd Allah, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, has said, ‘If a family keeps one sheep, Allah provides her sustenance, increases their sustenance and dispels poverty from them by a distance (of one day’s journey). If a family keeps two sheep, Allah provides their sustenance and increases their sustenance and dispels poverty from them by two distances, when the family keeps three sheep Allah provides their sustenance and dispels poverty from the family in its totality.’”
